  1. What happened? http://fj-09.org/thread/1823/clutch-problem-disengage-gearbox?page=1&scrollTo=19078 Clutch throwout bearing seized up. Barely 1150 miles on it. I'm relatively certain the mechanics that did the shifter linkage recall work fouled up the assembly somehow, but I'll never be able to prove that.
  2. That's encouraging to hear Bob. It IS good to know they take their warranty issues seriously. I've already had my go around with that silly seized bearing issue...
  3. Did my second ever oil & filter change today @ 2000 miles. Only wanted to go 1500 after the first break-in service on standard dino juice to allow better seating of the rings, etc. This time around we've gone full synth Castrol M/C oil with the K&N filter that Cruizin was so kind to share the awesomesauce Amazon deal on. Only went for a 5 minute quickie test ride afterward but I can tell what a difference the full synth oil makes overall. Pretty amazing how much smoother it feels... The Doctor is IN:
  4. As Jim mentioned the horror stories abound regarding Yammer's ability to fulfill these accessory orders. Took my dealer 2 months for the hard bags and 3 months on the grips. Like he mentioned, my dealer was up front about the backorder delays, so I knew up front what I was looking at. I was OK with the estimated times but agree it's still annoying as hell it should take so freaking long for this. I really wanted the the bags & grips from Yamaha though so was willing to wait, and I was not disappointed in them. My dealer, OTH... well that's another story...
  5. Don't worry. Now the whole internet knows! Lol. in all seriousness, it's common to kill a bike at least once a bunch of times when you are still getting used to it (or just not paying attention to it) FTFY
  6. LOL, don't feel bad. The first few weeks I was getting used to my new FJ, I must have stalled it half a dozen times. And I've been riding motorcycles 30+ years!!
  7. I was thinking of replacing oem with Pilot Road 4 and after reading what you wrote i am convinced thanks. +1, I'm a lifelong Michelin fanatic. Once the Dunlops are cooked, PR4's it shall be!!
  8. Today, I introduced her to the magnificent Blue Ridge Parkway. And yeah, that's me, you couldn't knock the stupid grin off my face the entire day. 315 miles later, I'm home. Decided to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway, just because. It was great. Little to no traffic anywhere, the few slowpokes I encountered were passed very quickly and easily, no LEO presence of any kind, anywhere... it's like the day was crafted just for this ride. Now, I'm chompin' down a handful of Vitamin IB and washing it down with a bourbon & coke. Might I also add... I'm surprisingly less fatigued, and saddle-sore than I was after the same ride last year on the KLR... And the SV before that with a Corbin seat... Go Yamaha! However I will probably order up one of those Alaska Leather sheepskin buttpads soon. While I'm not hurting too bad, my ass is still rather pissed off at me after a 300 mile day.
  9. Got my OES sliders installed. Took 5 minutes, tops. Most of that locating and setting my torque wrench.
  10. With the new hard bags installed, I decided I really needed a way to organize my stuff, and make it less complicated to access. Stopped at Target are bought 2 items. This plastic tote is approximately 8x11 inches with a locking lid, cost $4. This is like a catchall container, holds my handwarmers, glow sticks, flashlight, tyre puncture kit, zip-ties, bungees and bottle opener: This Swiss Gear organizer / pack was around $20, but it's crammed with gobs of pockets, zippered holds, and a ridiculous amount of storage spots. It was PERFECT for holding all my tools, emergency CO2 inflator, cartridges, maps, zip-ties, and a hundred other little things I always keep on the road for emergencies: The tote sits in bottom of the hard bag here: The tool bag sits on top like this: Still leaves plenty of room around the sides to stuff a towel, some microfibre cleaning rags, extra gloves, and maybe a frozen water bottle or two. The other side bag is reserved for my Frogg Togg rain gear, and leaves 2/3 of the case available for commuting needs, such as lunches, supplies and whatever else I need room for. I'm very pleasantly surprised at the room these cases have for storing my stuff.
  11. Nothing major, just installed the pigtail for my Battery Tender to the battery to keep her charged when I'm not riding. My goodness, isn't that a TINY little precious battery we have?!?? I've seen the top of it before when I raised the seat, but until today had not actually lifted it out... That thing is SMALL! Which means when the time comes, ain't gonna be picking up a new one at the local WalMart... nope, nope, nope. That's gonna be a special order item online... B-| Oy, vey. That took all of 5 minutes, it's too damn hot outside, even with my big fan running in the garage to tackle the rim tape today. Blarg.
  12. Just installed the Koubalink mirror extenders I bought 2 weeks ago. MARVELOUS piece of machining. $30 for stalks that blend so well with the OEM mirrors you can't tell they are aftermarket. Those few inches makes a HUGE difference in rearward visibility. The stock mirrors were just | | <- that much short and gave too much shoulder & elbow in the view. Now, there's a beautiful, full 270° view behind, which makes me MUCH more comfortable. Love 'em!! If you don't like the stock mirrors, grab these!!
  13. I like it. I had it on my VStrom for about 3 years and like you said, lots of room and I have never had it leak even in pretty hard rain storms. For the price you really cannot go wrong. Yep. It was always weathertight, not one leak or issue, and for the price it was hard to beat. I bought a couple of Plano plastic boxes with organizers to keep all my stuff in place.
  14. I had that same top case on my KLR, for being so cheap it was pretty nice! Lots of room. Enjoy!
  15. That was very weird for a minute - I have the same bag (and bike, obviously), and I did a momentary double-take. That's one of the best tailbags there ever was - not huge, but expandable out to the sides, secures to the bike well, carries more than you'd think. My go-to when my saddlebags don't have enough space.I totally agree, and I'm heartbroken that it's not my bag!! My buddy let me borrow it during the rally at Deals Gap for the week because my side cases were still backordered, so I rode with it all that week and LOVED it. When I got back home, I tried hard to find a new one on the innerwebz but they just aren't out there anymore. I found a few used ones, but they were either in lousy condition, or missing straps / parts that I needed. *sigh* The new Cortech Super 2.0 tailbag looks nice... but I'd really need to see one in person. On MY bike. Hmm....
  16. That's the old (discontinued) Cortech Sport tailbag. It will not hold a helmet, but great for raingear, gloves, bottled water, snacks and almost anything else.
  17. OK, you asked for it. The Bell RS-1 Airtrix Meltdown. Ugliest helmet I ever wore. Good for visibility though, it gets noticed. Looks like squid wear so make me feel younger. Really wanted that in the solid silver, but it wasn't imported here and needs the official standards sticker to be legal.. Revzilla review: Looks familiar... That's not me, but my buddy Derek taking my FJ for a ride.
  18. Underarmour hot weather gear for a base later. Got to have that wicking/evaporative layer for a start. I own a lot of gear (much to my wife's chagrin, LOL) but the hottest of the hot weather, I wear Tourmaster Intake mesh jacket & pants, they have CE-approved armor and of all the mesh gear I've seen/worn or owned, is probably the most crash worthy stuff. I don't skimp on gloves or boots in hot weather. Cortech Adrenaline gauntlets and TM Solution boots, I want my money-makers safe in a crash... I can't afford to not work!
  19. Mostly ride in Tourmaster Solution Air boots. I'm cursed with EEE sized feet and it's hard finding MC boots in those widths.
  20. For street riding I run a Shoei Qwest with "Prestige"graphics. Because, 'Murica.
