  1. Yeah that was my concern. Yamaha has an internal TPMS but doesn't appear to be sold in USA Tyre Pressure Monitoring System - YME-HTPMS-00-00 - Yamaha Motor Tyre Pressure Monitoring System - For your Yamaha Model Name I was planning on putting some T valves in next time I change my tires, and use the external FOBO sensors installed with sealant such as silicone, or head gasket sealer. I think you can still access the batteries. my-fobo.com/accessories
  2. Exactly. And if the previous suggestions did not help, here is something from an ancient Honda 750 Clymer manual on brake bleeding: "If the system is difficult to bleed, tap the master cylinder and caliper housing with a soft mallet to help release air bubbles trapped in the system" (that is in a section talking about using a MityVac to draw brake fluid out at the caliper).
  3. Glad it hasn't recurred - but "a similar effect as taking your hands off the bars" would not CAUSE a wobble. But if there was something going on (as others have mentioned) the act of having a good, stable grip on the bars would act kind of like a steering stabilizer. GPR Stabilizer - The Best Motorcycle Steering Stabilizers Learn why GPR's steering stabilizers are the best. Designed &... My money is on the front tire being the culprit, and likely out of balance. How many miles on the front tire, and was it smooth as silk when first installed? Could have been out of balance from day 1. You already checked the steering bearings and ruled out other causes.
  4. Balance was the first thing I thought of. My '86 Interceptor had a funky tire in front that was out of balance, and it would do a "death wobble" as slow as 30 mph. Trying to figure out if it was happening when accelerating, slowing down, yielded no result. Changing the front tire eliminated it completely. I tire can become unbalanced just as a result of normal riding as it wears and looses rubber. I mount and balance my own tires, so whenever I have a wheel off for other reason I check the balance and often have to change weights.
  5. The problem is the rod is too short on that tool. I posted this in another thread, but for less than $10 you can get a 12 inch long drill bit that works much better. an 1/8" bit is slightly smaller diameter than the rod that comes with the motion pro tool, but it gets pushed hard against the side wall when you tighten the screw. So it doesn't matter what size bit as long as it fits in the hole. This one is a 7/64. These long bits are very accurate, you can put them in a drill and confirm they aren't bent.
  6. Wow that is an amazing video. I should be thankful that I am 5' 8". Scooting my butt over isn't as hard as jumping off. OK, I missed that. And the original write ups mention the longer subframe accommodates different seating than the FZ-09 so I suppose that is where the height difference comes in. The stats for the FZ-09 / MT-09 on Wikipedia say weight 414 lb and they mention the 2017 addition of ABS in USA but fail to mention any weight change. I see that the actual weight with ABS is 425 lb, an increase of 11 lbs on the FZ-09 / MT-09. The Tracer / FJ-09 already had ABS so the weight increase (adjusting for fuel in the larger gas tank) is really 26.29
  7. I recently rode an XSR-900 and it was a bit tall for me (30 inch inseam, 5' 8") but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A few years ago at the Yamaha dealer I sat on FJ-09 (2017 model) and FZ-09 (2017 model) and could flat-foot the FZ-09, but not the FJ. I know there are lowering links and all kinds of solutions with seat etc - but I don't understand the height difference if they have the same frame, and subframe below seat. Is the rear shock longer to anticipate more passenger / bags / touring stuff? (like a different factory preload setting on shock). That would lift it up some. I know the 2018 Tracer got a longer swingarm and is not the same, so I am focused on the original FJ-09 to figure out where the height difference comes from. What is the change. For my riding I would prefer the FJ-09 but the FZ fit me better (I have bags and large windscreen on current bike). WEIGHT - Again I am leaning to the FJ-09 (or newer Tracer if find great deal) but don't understand why it weighs an extra 48 lbs. Gas weighs 6.3 lb per gallon x 1.7 gallon larger tank = 10.71 extra "wet weight" The FJ-09 wet is 462 - FZ-09 wet 414 lb = 48 lb difference - 10.71 extra gas = 37.29 lbs that I cannot account for. The articles I see note that the wet weight does not include saddlebags. Can there be 37.29 lbs worth of larger (empty) gas tank and small fairings, moderate size windscreen? --------- in the 80's I rode a Yamaha 850 triple (shaft drive) that weighed 568 lbs. The newer bike is 100 lb less and that is awesome but I keep leaning toward the FZ-09 because it fits me better. With my budget I will be looking for @ 2017 model for either the FJ or FZ-09
  8. Nice bike! Love the new ones. For center stand issues, get 2 pieces of scrap plywood and place them on the ground about the distance of your front and rear axle. Drive up on them, and you will have an easier time pulling the bike up on center stand. Then you can yank the plywood, change tires, adjust the chain, etc. Why is the original Tracer / FJ-09 taller than the FZ-09 / MT-09? They had the same frame and subframe supporting the seat. I know the newer GT models with longer swingarm changed things up a bit.
  9. I got several heel lifts from Amazon for less than $10 a pair. The 1/2 inch lifts fit well in my riding boots, the 1" were crowding me in the boots I had. I am 5' 8" and 30" inseam. These are the half inch (2 pair in box less than $10) and the next ones are full inch, no lift in front of foot area.
