  1. That’s interesting, very similar to the factory tool. I’ll be interested to learn more. Haven’t had the chance to use my Yamaha stand yet, I’ve got the bike pickled with more snow on the way tomorrow. 🥶
  2. I can't speak to tire life as I only put 325 miles on mine before winter set in. It's not a light bike but I don't have any problems moving it around. One of the reasons I traded my Triumph Tiger 1200 for the Niken was that it was so top heavy. The Tiger weighs about the same but it's much taller and could get leverage on you. If you got the slightest bit off center it felt like it wanted to fall away from you. Nearly dropped that bike several times and I haven't dropped a bike in years. I have not experienced that so far with the Niken. Just pushing the bike around the garage it reminds me more of my K1300s. Not light but low enough that it's not a problem.
  3. I received the OBDLink MX+ for Christmas. I'm an Apple user so had to go with the MX+. I still need the cable to hook up with the bike. I was going with https://www.amazon.com/moto-solutions-Diagnostic-Adaptor-Yamaha-Motorcycle/dp/B07W1BKQ9F/ref=sr_1_3?crid=38JD4D3GI2Y3R&dchild=1&keywords=yamaha+4+pin+to+obd2+connector&qid=1609029025&sprefix=yamaha+4+pin%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-3 unless some one can suggest a better option. Thanks.
  4. Good news. For riders in the US those Bridgestones will be the easiest tires to get in the correct sizes.
  5. I have to ask what tires you’re running, not that I’ll get anywhere near that much lean angle.
  6. Bikes with the center stand don't have the stabilizer bar. Here you can see it run from below the brake lever then under the exhaust over to the other side. From what I've read the pegs touch at 43°, mechanical limit at 45° and the outside tire lifts at 50°.
  7. Traded my Triumph Tiger 1200XRx after only a few months of ownership. It was my first ADV bike and I discovered I'm not an ADV type of guy. Before that was a long line of GT sport bikes and sport tourers. The riding position on the BMW R1200RS I owned before the Tiger was getting too cramped for me so I was looking at the BMW S1000XR and F900XR. Also the Yamaha MT-10 and FJR1300. The S1000XR is very tall and that was one of the things I didn't care for with the Tiger. It would also be tough to get into one for less than $20,000. The F900XR seemed like a pretty good choice but after having the boxer on the RS I didn't really want another twin. I like engines that rev a little. The MT-10 is probably a great bike. I understand looks are a personal thing but man, it's not pretty. The range was an issue too. I only get around 180 miles to a tank on the Niken but stopping for gas every 100 miles would be a hassle. I had an 07 FJR for a while. At the time it was too much of a touring bike for me. Lots to like, shaft drive, comfy, good range, heated grips, cruise etc. Nice looking machine too. Still probably more of a touring bike than I need. I take maybe one trip a year and other than that spend time doing big day rides or just local rides on county roads. The FJR seems out of place in that environment though it for sure could do it all. I may have another one someday.
  8. First picture I've run across with the bike up on the front stand and the center stand. It's good to know that you can get all three wheel up in the air at the same time. That'll make tire changes a lot less hassle. Looks like you can pull the front wheels with the fender in place too. I'm still waiting on my service manual to confirm that. When I lift mine for the first time I'll take some pictures and post them up.
  9. The closest thing I've read so far to address the question was on a Facebook Niken page. There they were asking owners to post their serial number to try and determine how many had been produced. If I recall the highest serial number was in the upper 1400s so it was assumed that about 1,500 Nikens had been built at the time. Of course, not everyone is on Facebook (me included, I surfed using my wife's account), and not everyone who owns one is going to post. Plus this is worldwide and not broken out by country so does not address US registrations. I'm serial number 371. Don't know if US bikes started at 0 though.
  10. If you get the opportunity please do. I've always been fascinated by the Niken since I first read about it and then was blown away by the test ride. I think it would be more popular if more riders gave it a chance.
  11. It snowed last night but I still managed to ride 325 miles in December before they salted the roads. I'll take it.😊
  12. In a flop and slide I don't know if the engine covers would touch or not. With the location of the Niken wheels the front of the engine stays nice and clean but road debris thrown up from the tires hits the engine side cases. A little catches the outside of your boot too. So the guards would be used to protect from that.
  13. Does anyone know the difference in the stator covers between the 2014-18 models and the 2019 and newer bikes? I'm looking at installing Yoshimura case savers and the website says they will fit the 2014-18 bikes. No mention of newer models. Looking up the part numbers there is a one number difference but I don't see any physical difference in the part pictures. Crankcase part numbers are the same for all years which leads me to believe that the covers are dimensionally the same. Maybe a difference in paint color? This would be for my 2019 Niken. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the reply guys. I thought maybe it had to do with being attached to the swing arm. A rigid mounted light would take quite a pounding back there. I see the parts fiche calls what appears to be the nuts that hold the light on a "weight". Probably to further help dampen vibration. From now on I will refer to this as a feature.😄
  15. Gave the bike it's first bath today and happen to notice that my plate light has a lot of play in it. I assume this is normal but without another Niken nearby there's no way to check another one. Is your plate light like this? License Plate Light.MOV - Google Drive Hopefully that link works.
  16. Corporate pilot for the last 33 years. Currently flying a Citation Latitude but previous PIC on Dassault Falcon 10, Falcon 50, Falcon 900, Falcon 2000LX, Falcon 7X and Citation XL. Riding a new Niken at the moment.
  17. I am, was there almost from the beginning. I recognize your name and thanks, I'm really looking forward to getting out on the new machine.
  18. The dealer I bought my Niken from insisted that the factory service tools were included with the bike. I think he's wrong but they wouldn't take no for an answer so I have the service tools. I'll get a service manual ordered and once I have that hope to be able to do all the bike service here at home. Tools are still in the bubble wrap but as I get things out and use them I'll try to post how things work. Still can't believe they included over $800 worth of tools with the bike.
  19. I brought my Niken home this week. The dealer included the factory service tools with the bike. That includes the stand so while I haven't used it yet I do own it and don't have to worry about how I'm going to lift the front.
  20. Brought mine home Thursday. Hoping to get out a few times before the weather gets too bad to ride. 2019 base model demo bike with 469 miles on it. Traded straight across for my 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XRx. They also threw in the factory tools, which was a complete shock. The dealer said the tools were supposed to go with the bike. I don't think so but they wouldn't take no for an answer, so I have the factory service tools too.🙂
  21. That blue Niken has had a ton of modifications. Making the engine fairings and tail section look that nice takes some real talent. The mirror mod wouldn't be too hard to do, the left mount is already there and on the right it would be a matter of finding the right perch/master cylinder combination. To stay on topic, that bike also has good looking hand guards.
  22. Yeah I don't care for the graphics on that bike but it does have some pretty cool mods. I think the crash bars are GIVI and the GIVI website doesn't show any bars for the Niken but those look like the same bars that the Tracer uses. Not sure but there's a thread here with pictures. I think the passenger backrest is very well done. I also like the GIVI screen.
  23. Interesting that Yamaha would limit accessories to certain markets. I have seen a few more pictures with those guards in place. Also read that someone made Tracer hand guards work but I don't have details or pictures. Yamaha guards. A bunch of custom work done here and guards are in place but no other details.
  24. Just to beat this completely to death, I did find a little more information. First, a couple of better pictures showing the factory stand. Second, further research shows that you can use the Abba Lift front and rear package to lift both front and rear wheel without using the Sky Lift. That reduces the price of the Abba stand considerably, making it only $50 more than the factory stand. For the price difference I'm more inclined to spend an extra $50 and have a tool I can use on other bikes in the future than I am to buy the Niken specific tool from Yamaha.
