  1. Well I went along last year and found it super rowdy, even up by the Speedway. Can't say I really enjoyed it, way too many Harley's for my liking. Where would you recommend for buying motorcycle clothing in your area? Things are generally cheaper in the USA than the UK and I'd like any opportunity to pick up a bargainThere are some shops at Destination Daytona, a big complex north of Daytona at I-4 & US1. It's mostly geared toward the Harley crowd, but I believe there is a smattering of other motorcycling interests there as well. Other than that, there are the typical dealerships in the Daytona area and chain stores like Cycle Gear, where you might find some things that you are looking for. Like most, however, I do my shopping online. If you find yourself over this way, I can show you some lesser frequented, but more rewarding places to ride. Florida is pretty flat and boring, but there are a few surprises as well.
  2. I used to do the Bike Week/Biketoberfest thing, but haven't for some time. During those times I tend to go west and away from the crowds. My little town (DeLand) is pretty close to the action. Give me a shout if you're in the area.
  3. I urge you to postpone your visit until July, August or September. You will quickly rule out those months (maybe June as well)!
  4. Nice job! Did you transfer the CC switches from the FJR switch block to your FJ block like I've seen in a recent thread?
  5. Which one did you get? The 90mm or 141mm rise?
  6. Yes, bb - it's hooked into the brake-light wire (yellow) and that clearly powers-up the Mod through the relay when brakes are applied...But, is it also connected to the battery? In that case, the yellow wire from the brake light supplies the trigger signal that activates the relay, thus powering the modulator directly from the battery.
  7. Thank you. As I freely admitted at the beginning of my post I had a lot of help and guidance from a mate who has forgotten more about electrons than I'll ever know, so I have no idea why the relay is there, though I gather it is some kind of switch. My guess is that it's needed to to get switched power from the battery to power the modulator.
  8. Kuryakyn pegs are going back... very disappointed. They weigh a tonne (wow!!) and worst of all... they spin on the bars no mater how tight. These clamps are probably best suited to something chromed, or at least not powder coated. Could I ask you Bob to post a pic of your Rivco pegs on the Givi bars... and... what model are they? I will give Rivco a try next. Well, Better late than never! LOL The Rivco pegs and mounts are sold separately. That way you can get the correct mounts for the diameter of your bars. Mine are very snug and don't rotate on the bars at all. I don't know which model they are. I got them on eBay. If you search eBay, you'll find them. Right now, the pegs are mounted high on the bars, but I intend to move them to a lower location soon.

  10. I bought Rivco pegs for mine. A little pricey, but solid and black. Pic shows them mounted on SW Motech crash bars. I have since switched to GIVI bars.
  11. Good call! What was that "gotta have it" quality that appealed to him so much to make him part with his long-time friend? Many factors, I'm guessing. Some of the same ones that made me, as well as many of us on this board, make the switch as well. Lightness, capability, power, features, price. I'm sure the K-bike was getting long in the tooth for him as well. For my own take on it, the FJ ticks all the boxes. Prior to the FJ, I was on a new bike every two years. This is the first one that I can see myself on for many more than that. Time will tell with my bro-in-law, but he did stick with the k-bike for 10.
  12. No today, but a couple of weekends ago I spent a few days in Asheville, NC doing some mountain riding with my bro-in-law. He has a 2008 BMW K1200GT. Had it since new. After a few days there, we both had to head to Ohio (I live in Florida) for business. I suggested that He ride my FJ for the 450 miles or so that we needed to cover that day. Well, that was a Monday. By the next Saturday, he had a brand-spankin-new white FJ parked in his garage. Traded the BMW. So, not so much about what I did to my FJ, but much more about what I did to his BMW. Vanquished! Another BMW convert. I don't post much, but some may remember that I came from a BMW as well.
  13. I got the recall notice yesterday, but damned if I'm going to take it in for that. I have locktite and a wrench. I'll do it myself.
  14. There is a recent and ongoing thread on the AOPA group on facebook asking for pics of bikes owned by pilots. Lots of Harleys, as you might imagine, but also some sport bikes, sport tourers and ADV bikes. I was happy to see that I wasn't the only FJ owner to post up. So, I was wondering if any of them are members here. How many pilots do we have?
  15. My solution. Not very elegant, but it keeps the handguards from hitting the windshield. I found some 1" nylon standoffs at Lowe's. They were white, so I wrapped them in electrical tape to make them less visible. Longer screws hold everything together. Haven't ridden with this setup yet. I'll try to get some seat time this weekend and report back.
  16. Well, I got mine today. Didn't waste any time getting it installed. Top notch quality, as I have come to expect from Madstad, but... the handguards do contact the shield more than I would like, so a little modification is in order. I'm going to get some longer bolts and 1" standoffs and remount the stiffening plate. That should space the shield far enough away from the handguards.
  17. And you can take the hand guards touching out of the equation by putting the KTM hand guards on....and get better protection as a bonus. True, but I like the stockers, especially since I have the handguard lights installed.
  18. I'm 5-9, and they do just barely touch the handguards at full lock. Actually, my questions were meant for the OP, but appreciate your input as well. What size shield did you get?
  19. The windshield looks a lot more attractive than the ones they were selling when the FJ first came out. I've had Madstads on two previous bikes and wanted to get one for the FJ, but they were just too ugly at the time I got mine. Might commit to one now. BTW, how tall are you? Do the handguards hit the shield at full lock?
  20. Washed it and cleaned & lubed the chain in preparation for my trip to the NC mountains in a few days.
  21. I already have OEM heated grips on my bike. I wonder how hard it would be to remove the left grip in order to install it on new bars.
  22. Will do mhevezi. It will probably be a little while as I'm devoting my free time to finishing up my garage build project.
  23. Ohlins shock has arrived! I have no way of verifying, But David at FBI says that it's the first of its kind in the US.
