  1. Well, the PR4s that had been languishing in my garage uninstalled for almost a month were put on last week. This morning was the first opportunity I had to try them out. As usual, the Pilot Road (insert version here) tires are vastly superior to the D222s and any previous stockers I've owned. Ready for my trip to the mountains in a couple of weeks. Also, this little addition will help a lot in the 'getting there' and 'getting back' parts of the trip: Can't wait!
  2. That's really good to know. I'm heading out on a 2,500 trip next month and replaced the stockers with only 2k on them, not knowing how they would fare. Nice to know I can slap them back on for a few k after the replacements are worn.
  3. http://fj-09.org/thread/1823/clutch-problem-disengage-gearbox?page=1&scrollTo=19078 Clutch throwout bearing seized up. Barely 1150 miles on it. I'm relatively certain the mechanics that did the shifter linkage recall work fouled up the assembly somehow, but I'll never be able to prove that. Don't know how I missed that one, but I'm glad that it worked out.
  4. That's encouraging to hear Bob. It IS good to know they take their warranty issues seriously. I've already had my go around with that silly seized bearing issue...What happened?
  5. Replaced front fender. The paint was coming off in spots. Showed it to my dealer, who sent the claim with pictures off to the mothership. Within a few days I got the call that Yamaha had agreed to replace it under warranty. Received the replacement a few days after that. Hard to complain about that kind of response. Yamaha could show BMW a thing or two about taking responsibility and corrective action when appropriate.
  6. Installed a set of Grip Puppies. I was having a problem with my hands getting a little tingly when on longer rides. I think these will help a lot. Good reviews and they are supposed to work well with heated grips.
  7. After a morning ride, I washed it. Also cleaned & lubed the chain. Not to be left out, the KTM got the same treatment.
  8. I used to use K-1 with my Park chain cleaner back in my avid bicycling days. Worked well and left a thin paraffin coating on the chain when it dried. Might try it on the FJ with the Kettenmax.
  9. Went on a breakfast ride with a bunch of old codgers on BMWs and Triumphs. The FJ got a lot of attention. Had another chance on the way home to use the cruise control. It's still working great. As it happens so infrequently, I never fail to be amazed when something I have done works out exactly as I had hoped.
  10. ^^ +1 After dropping my fully loaded 700#+ BMW K1600GT I used this technique to get the beast back upright. It was a struggle, but I got it. BTW, I'm not a big guy, 5'8" 150#.
  11. Good luck! Very curious to see what you will come up with.
  12. In the midst of installing my cruise control system, I took advantage of a pause in that activity to install the heated grips that have been sitting on a shelf for a month. In comparison, much easier than the CC, which is still not finished.
  13. I have a C3 Pro as well. Love all of the features. Quietest modular I've ever worn.
  14. Rode it. Asheville to Deals Gap yesterday. Up to Little Switzerland via the BRP today and Unaka Mountain tomorrow. Head back to Florida on Monday. I love this bike!
  15. Installed my CalSci windshield last weekend and my new Shad side cases today.
  16. If you follow the instructions included with the hand guard lights, you will have removed the windshield, its mount and the plastic cover that covers both power outlets. Look at the power outlet where the wires come into it from the bottom. There are two; one light colored and one dark. These are the wires I tapped. You'll have to remove some of the electrical tape that is on the wires at that location in order to make room for the posi-taps. I joined the wires from the two lights together and then connected them to the power outlet wires with posi-taps; light to light and dark to dark. It's really not difficult. Sorry that I didn't take pictures, seems it might have been helpful. I'm out of town now or I'd run out to the garage and take some.
  17. Do you know what size of posi-taps are needed? I have to order them from the uk and found this vendor with different sizes. http://kojaycat.co.uk/Connectors-Posi-Tap I used the red ones, which were perfect for the job.
  18. Which Highway pegs are these can you post a link? Thanks, Edit, I think I found them. MFW Highway Peg mounts black with the Super Grip Pegs about $150 at adventure depot: http://advdepot.com/mfw-highway-peg-kit.html Both are Rivco products. eBay link for pegs: Pegs I don't have a link for the mounts, sorry.
  19. Any chance to get a pic sometime with you or someone sitting on the bike with feet on the highway pegs? Curious to see them "in use". No pictures. I can't afford another camera after I break the one I have by taking pictures of myself. I will say that my legs aren't fully extended with the pegs in this position. BTW, I'm 5'8", 30" inseam. I considered swapping sides with the crash bars and mounting them upside-down. That would have put them in a better position for the pegs, but it would have looked goofy and the turned part at the front would have been dangerously close to the header. As they are, they will still provide some relief on those long rides.
  20. BB - is installation quite as easy and semi-fool-proof as the on-line instructions appear to show? I have a pair on order... L of S Yes. Pretty straight forward. Just follow the directions. For power, I used Posi-taps and tied into one of the power outlet wires. Turn the key and the lights come on.
  21. I installed mine last weekend. Really like the look and quality of the pieces.
