  1. I  bought some Chemical Guys matte finish spray off Amazon and it works fine but found that Maguire's Detail spay works great for cleaning and taking off bugs which seem to like to stick to the matte finish. It also works great on the wind screen and have done multiple cleanings with no scratching and is nice and clear!

Did a search here but didn't find the exact answer.  Is there a set temp. that triggers the cooling fan to start?  It was quite warm today and coolant

got up to 211F but the fan did not come on.  Just wondering what other riders see on their FJ-09's

    Thanks

I think the fan comes on about 220-221F. Sounds high but I had mine come on while waiting for a train . Normally would shut down but wanted to make sure the fan was going to turn on And finally did.

Just sure if this has been shared previously-not my idea, came from FJR forum originally.

If you put an extra “wrap” on the strap to the LH pannier lid, when you are on your side-stand and open the LH case the lid ends up about level instead of pointing at the ground...if something falls out onto the lid, is a lot less likely to end up on the ground.

Really doesn’t limit access to the contents when on the center stand.

That is the important part, that it feels perfect FOR YOU and makes you happy.

I would just be wary if riding in steep mountainous conditions as acceleration WILL be affected and you will have to be in a much lower gear to make climbs.

    Enjoy the bike. 😎

That's what nice about chain drive ,the ability' to adjust gearing and with the 6 speed  and short gearing on the tracer ,plenty of options to suit your ridding style . I have found with stock gearing that at 60mph its in a sweet spot and quiets down the Trans and smooths out.

Hiya @edgarjessop12  I've used hiflo oil filters loads of times over the years. Never had an issue with them. Multiple motorcycles , different configurations.
    A good reliable brand.

Also used the Hi Flo filters . Like the welded on Nut like the K&N for easy removal . Had to have that on my ST 1300 Honda that had the filter hidden underneath and needed that nut to take off the filter and by chance the tracer takes the exact same filter. Nice !

  6. The prices are crazy nowadays on dealer maintenance cost. Yamahas maintenance  schedule wacky. I think they want carb sync at 600mi, What ,not even broke in then? I told the salesman I would do my own work on my own bike .and would probably not see me again unless there was a warranty issue. The triple seems to be a pretty easy format to work on and maintain !

My Pyramid extension fell off. That sounds really strange... I cleaned exactly as instructed applied the sticky tabs to where there was NO gaps and it fell off within a month. Throw those tabs away and abs epoxy it from the start. The sticky tabs have held up fine on my last two bikes with the front extension but for some reason the rear did not work.

Sorry to here that. I was supper critical on the tab placement and the clamping overnight . Seem to be really stuck on and holding . I'm crossing my fingers.

After reading thru the discussion good ideas on rear extensions.  Looking into it to maybe keep my tail a bit cleaner.  Is the Tracer GT more susceptible to dirt than other bikes?  Have a number of day long rides in the rain and the dirt and grime gets everywhere.  In June rode thru Utah and southern Wyoming in heavy rain.  All the dirt and grime on the road really coated my bike.  LOL when washing the wheels there was so much dirt on them it was like mud!  Hugger does seem to be very short, more like my Kawasaki ZX6R 636 tether than a sport touring bike.

Yeah short of having a full rear fender your going to get crud.Nature of the beast,a sport bike convert to sporting tour bike.

Has anyone adjusted the gear lever position?

Is it possible to adjust since the GT comes with a quickshifter installed?

    Has anyone done it yet?

Looking to adjust the gear shifter lever lower by a tad bit.

I actually raised mine 1 spline on the trans input shaft., since I installed FJ foot pegs also. Didn't effect the QS. one bit.

Thank you Rob. I will check for the brackets when it arrives. I just emailed MPW where i ordered it from but they are very close to closing time for the weekend over in the UK.

This thread was hijacked . The extender I put on was just that, to extend on to the original .The total replacement is the problem one that required the braces or the newer model redo. Just to be clear. !

  11. Got this idea off the ST 1300 web site.  Got some key blanks of  EBAY , had them ground for locks and then I shortened them for fastening in the nobs. The nob has a brass insert and also super glued in,so it is sturdy. It fits both bags and gas cap .I  drilled for key ring so I can carry or can leave in the bag while ridding. NO long ass key sticking out, Works great.

I fixed Pyramid fender extender and hugger extender. I used the recommended glue that they trumpeted as fit for the job without needing rivets. Well guess what, hugger extender fell off after only a few weeks so I was forced to use the rivets. Thankfully it stayed in position because the forward motion of the wheel kept it in place when it detached itself. My view is to take the “belt and braces” approach and use glue as well as rivets.

Did you take off fender and rear guard? I had big rubber covered clamps I used on mine and they are on to stay. Left clamped for a day before reinstalling.

Did mine a few weeks ago. Denali Soundbomb mini, ridiculously loud and hilariously funny to watch the car drivers jump!
straight swap with the stock one. If you search on here for soundbomb you should find photos of it installed.

Just ordered one on Amazon. Cant stand the stock horns on Bikes. Thought I was going to have to run a dedicated circuit with a relay like I have for a dual set of horns on other bikes. Thank for the info .A lot simpler deal !

  14. I looked at the video again . It looks like you have the cable adjuster screw at the lever out way too far and actually have taken all the free play out . Screw it in some till you actually have some free play in the cable, also try to make sure the slot in the adjuster is toward the top or bottom as to not snag the cable. I think this will work and you will get smooth engagement.

  15. No that's not normal .Either you have the lever bolt too tight causing it too bind unless you let it snap back quickly like you did in the video or that lever isn't just right when it seating into the mount .You should have a.250  to .375 inch free play at lever when right.

    Hey guys,

So I designed a small tool to adjust the front suspension on the GT, I am not sure if the non GT bikes have the same front shock adjustment design/sizes so I am posting it in here.

I designed a small 44mm round disk that has a hex on one side for preload, and a slot on the other side to adjust compression/rebound.   Its small and light and seems to work well even 3D printed in PLA as a prototype (but if you carry it on the bike I would assume PETG/ABS/Nylon would be the material you should use for heat stability, I will be printing mine in Glass loaded Nylon).

This lets you tweak preload by hand without much issue on the road, and easily adjust the other settings without getting a screw driver out.

This a tool people want?   if so I can post it on Thingiverse for folks to print (thingiverse is down right now... ).   Took me like 30 min to design it and I am happy to share it.

Pretty smart little device you came up with . I like the concept and the small carry on design. Nice!
