  1. Hello fellow riders.

Sorry if this has been covered in a previous thread.

I just recently purchased the TomTom Rider 550 GPS and it came with the RAM handlebar / brake reservoir mount. Went for a nice ride today and it works great but would much prefer to have it mounted in such a way that it's more in my line of site. Has anybody seen a solution for mounting the Rider 550 above the existing instrument cluster? Preferably an off the shelf unit, because I'm not really setup for crafting my own. Also, I might add that I'm using an MRA touring screen currently but would like to use the sport screen during warmer weather.

    Any and all feedback welcomed.

    Thanks,

    WJ

    My understanding is ‘no’ :(

I recall someone on the forum having installed this exhaust, and the bags would not fit with the system in place.   Not an issue for some people; deal-breaker for others.   Unfortunate, since it’s a beautiful exhaust...

Please correct me if someone knows anything different.

Yeah, looked it up on the Japanese site and it says it’s not compatible with the RH pannier. Deal breaker for me. 🙁

    Hi,

Yoshimura full exhaust system. It's on the Yoshimura Japan website.

As I understand, you can purchase directly there.

    See ya

Thanks. I wonder if you could still wear the panniers with it?

I have never used a torque wrench on axle nuts, on any bike street or dirt, in over 45 years of riding and I have never had a nut loosen.  I use a standard length ratchet handle (not a longer breaker bar) and tighten it 'tight' and then just a smidge more.  Same with an oil filter, hand tight and then just a bit more.

Once you tighten fasteners you kind of get a feel for 'how tight' depending on their size.    YMMV.

I’ve been wrenching on bikes and other for quite a bit and have what I think is a good feel for how tight a fastener should be, but with wheels, calipers and the like I get a little paranoid.

Thanks for the response. You all are great.

Did it go up 3 lb. ft.? It used to be 108.

I put a light coat of grease on the axle threads and tighten by hand. To put a # on it 80 lb.ft. It's a lock nut that works too well and gets stuck and galls the threads. All my previous bikes were Hondas, they called for 70-80 lb.ft.

The wheel won't fall off even at 10 lb.ft. but the torque needs to be higher to squeeze the  swing arm together and preload the bearings.

    Great info. Thanks bud!

  6. Hi brain trust, I have another question,

The manual calls for 111 lb/ft for the torque of the rear axle nut. I’ve read on here that peeps are saying that’s excessive. What is the consensus on the minimum safe torque value. Not a fan of having wheels fall off. Although the rear would be better than the front I’d suspect.

    Hi,

EBC FA380HH Double-H Sintered Front Brake Pads

EBC FA228HH Double-H Sintered Front Brake Pads

    Which one?
    I can't find a definitive explanation.

    Thanks

I just bought these last night. Did I get the wrong ones? EBC FA252HH Double-H Sintered Front Brake Pads

  8. Hi brain trust, I have a question,

Is it really required to bleed the brakes when installing new pads in the front? I have the shop manual and it says to open the bleeders and drain into a vessel. I understand the concept of brakes. Can’t I just push the pistons back with my fingers?

  9. This happens to me frequently, both using the auto shifter and clutch. In my situation it appears to be from my big toed (sp) boots. I have to make sure I make a conscious decision to make sure the shifter has been released by flexing my ankle / foot down. I have adjusted the shift knob, but may need to go a bit further. I hope that all makes sense.

@Waldo Jeffers - are you a big Velvet Underground fan? Waldo Jeffers was the name of a character from their song "The Gift".

Sorry - random, I know...it's how my brain works. 🙂

You got it! I’ve used that username a few places and you’re the only one that’s gotten it. 👍
