johnmark101 Posted June 8, 2023 Share Posted June 8, 2023 The primary purpose of the crush washer is to deform or "crush" slightly when the proper amount of torque is applied to the drain plug bolt, in order to protect the threads of the oil pan from stripping. Once used, it loses some of the ability to deform again. Can you reuse them......yes you can but they will not perform their intended task properly. When you can purchase a package of them for cheap at the auto parts store, why risk a stripped oil pan, which is a real headache. 1 There is nothing like spending a day riding with friends in the grip of a shared obsession.
