True Speedo error

I don't know of anything "official" in print, or online.  I agree that results seem to be all over the map from different riders.  To run my comparison, I used a Garmin GPS on the handlebars, I rode on an open stretch of interstate (no tall trees, buildings or obstructions).  I rode at various speeds, 65, 70, 75, 80 and held it at a steady pace for about 10 seconds each time.

With stock gearing the difference for me was 1 mph, and when I changed to a 15 tooth front sprocket the results were off by 1 mph as well.  I have read others report that their speedo is off by as much as 7mph.

I did a ride last year that was 1100.2 miles according to my odometer, but 1055 miles according to mapping software. That's about a 4% error. I'm riding with stock gearing and Michelin PR4 tires.

My speedo verses GPS, 1-20 same, 21-50 +1, 51-100+ +2 mph.

That seems to match my experience exactly. For what it's worth, laid out on the speed governor, mine shows 114 indicated and 111 GPS verified.
