small aerosol spray can of chain lube

Recommended Posts

I'll need to take some chain lube with me on an upcoming 4500km tour, but don't want a bulky 250ml spray can.   Does anyone know of a smaller alternative please - I've looked in accessories shops without success.

Thank you...

250 is already pretty small. Bel ray makes a 175. Here is a link for info (I'm not recommending the store but I do like the lube).

Unfortunately I usually find small ones at shops. WD40 isn't great, but it's easier to find and comes in many sizes. Auto stores have started carrying a thicker WD40 that they advertise as lube.

There are some general use wet Teflon lubes in a squeeze bottle at a hardware store or bicycle shop, but I don't known if those are sticky enough to not fling off.

Have a good trip.

You could fill up a old sewing machine oil bottle with 90w or similar. Maybe put it in a zip lock bag so as not to fill up your luggage with a diff oil smell!

Something I use for carrying gun cleaning supplies when I go to the range:

Purchase small plastic bottles that can be closed tight, or buy something like elmers glue squirt bottle and clean out the bottle. You can re-fill the container with whatever fluids you like, but I suggest putting them inside a zip-loc storage bag for an extra level of leak protection.

Thanks for this tip.   I have found this Blue Tac product on-line here, but it cannot be mailed, being an aerosol.   And it costs AUD$19+!
Thanks so far for all other replies - I'll get there!   I'll try a bike shop too - good tip!   (All my other recent touring bikes have been shafties - no such problems there!).

Thanks all! Seek and thou shalt find. Located a tiny 100ml aerosol of SILKOTHENE @ AUD$12 - which will suffice for 11 days on the road.
