Buzz.....

Greetings,

Just purchased a 2015 FJ09 with 6k miles. Ive had Yamahas (FJR and Super Tenere) but this is my first triple. I’m experiencing an engine “buzz” and wondering if it’s a fuel delivery issue or simply a characteristic of the triple. When I’m accelerating through gears engine is very smooth. But, when I maintain a steady speed with throttle barely open (1/10th throttle) the engine becomes very buzzy which can be felt in grips and foot pegs. Normal?

thanks much. LL

I'd say very normal, especially if the former owner installed an undamped front sprocket.

Pop off the primary cover and inspect the front sprocket. If it does not have a rubber isolation ring between the inner and outer gear teeth. It is  undamped.

The FJ is a buzzy bike compared to your previous rides.  Nature of the CP3 beast.

Thanks guys. Just checked and I DO have the rubber insulated front sprocket. I don’t think PO ever had throttle sync done. I have a sync tool but only for twin. Just ordered one and I’ll sync this weekend. See what happens. The buzzyness is not a problem. Just foreign to what I’m used to coming from  parallel twins or in line fours.

That’s it.  When I installed my 17 front I checked them out and they only did 15 and 16 tooth offerings.

My undamped 17 is noisier than my old damped 16.

Thanks.  Although I don't have the buzzing - at least, not that I'm aware of - I do notice the occasional 'sharp' shift if I'm not carefully smooth with the clutch...this should help a bit, hopefully.
