  1. Thanks for all the feedback folks, I decided to leave the D222 on for the trip. If it starts to wear too much I'll pick up a tire on the way back. Keep us posted on how well it does. Friends have said that the Roadsmart 2 surprised them on how long they lasted when they looked almost worn out.
  2. BTW: There is a rebate on Dunlops Roadsmart 2s going on until the end of the month. $50. With that the total cost of a set front and back will come to around $185. That is a good price and appears to be a good tire.
  3. 5,000 and I removed the D222 to do a 2400 mile ride as I was just at the wear bars. Replaced with Roadsmart 2s, look the same as OEM's D222. They are at 5,500 and looks like a good 2,000K left but have a 3,000 mile ride next week and will replace with PR-3 rear and PR-4 front. The front D222 is up to 10,500 miles and is just nearing the wear bars. Maybe another 1500 miles on it but going to replace now.
  4. Just a note about the Yamaha brackets for the saddle bags. They also include a cross member, which appears to also provide additional support. I don't know if this is over kill or if it was engineered or just put there "because". Besides the brackets being hell for stout made of steel, adding cross bracing certainly makes them useful for: listing the bike on the center stand. The bike is much harder to raise up on the center stand when the bags are loaded.
  5. scholgs: Good write up, photos and additional information, as well as your follow up. I moved the G2 Throttle Tamer from the original thread and created a new thread in the How To section. Hopefully people will be able to find it and follow your advise easier. If you are not familiar with the How To section, you can visit it and review the Index for quick links to what others have done to custom fit, trick or just make their FJ their own.
  6. I also took the hand guards off so my DIY touring windscreen would work. This things works great. Note, it doesn't even need cut outs like the Cal Si suggests is needed to stop buffeting. I get no buffeting. I think that enough air slides under the screen off the nose and equalizes the air pressure on the back side. I will use for another month then replace with the stock for the summer and I will put the hand guards back on. In the real cold, I use muffs for the hands, as shown in the pic. The bike looks good w/o the guards too.
  7. I was thinking a bar across would also make them stronger, as what ever fall over force would be vectored to both sides. Might not be enough room with the wheel going up and down.
  8. Bars look good. Is the front of those bars there to poke a hole in the radiator?
  9. Really a great mod, that sounds great. Good work you two. Thanks for the video too, well done.
  10. You can see my FJR bags (clicky) and they look like this now: You can order 2014 FJR bags in the same red as the FJ comes in and it looks like this:
  11. Thanks for posting this Skip. I changed the title to "Fault Code List" and added a link on the "How To" Index. Good job.
  12. Yes they are. 07's that were painted 05 color that I used on my second FJR.
  13. Been added to "How To Index". Was planning to do this myself, good write up with picture. Awarded shortest How To award. Edit 4-13-15: I used a vibrating saw to cut the plastic and it worked very well.
  14. I had a long post about the Windscreen and some how deleted it just as I was finishing up on it. I may get back to it, but here is a picture of dimensions you can develop with your new screen that will help others make decisions.
  15. I measured the cut pipe attached to the dividing wall, in the picture on my screen, at .62" and then used the number you gave at 1.47-1.5", therefore .62=1.5". I then measured the end of the cut pipe to the dividing wall at .75, therefore .75=Y. because they were so close together, and the shot was kinda overhead, I figured the amount of error would be negleglible. Y being the unknown. Therefore Y/.75=1.5/.62, Y=.75x1.5/.62, Y=1.8145" give or take. Most likely close enough to slice an opening as you can angle the saw blade to cut the pipe.
  16. I measured on the monitor screen these dim. X=.62", Y=.75". With X actual dim. = 1.5", therefore Y = 1.82" by interpolation. X/1.5=.75/.62. Numbers were edited: Latest are shown.
  17. Measure the diameter of the pipe. The distance could then be interpolated.
  18. Now knowing what the insides look like and ? know approx. dimensions, couldn't you just use a cutoff and make a slice in the top about 2" long and insert a saw to cut off the inner curved pipe in the location where you cut it? Then cut off the pipe on the outside where you cut it? Then insert a large drill bit and make a hole (s) in the inner separator? Would that work so you wouldn't have to cut the whole top off?
  19. Have you gone to the parts department on line? You can see all those pieces in illustrations.
  20. Nice write up and investigation papac2000, keep us up to date with your results, very interesting. I'm also interested in the power curves below 5000rpm. Often any modifications to the stock exhaust cause a drop in performance in the low to mid range. Since this is the area we mostly ride in, any negative results there could change the mega positive performance we get with the stock system. Can you do a dyno with a full rpm spread 0-11,000? Thread added to How To Index.
  21. Update April 17, 2015 This thread is a pictorial index of “how to” threads and other well documented posts of interest. This thread is not intended to be used for discussions or never ending posts related to the references. Use this index to locate information that you know is there but can't remember which directory it was posted in. This index will make available that information that may get lost two or three years down the road and 1000 post later. Please PM me with your favorite threads that have pictures and how to directions or just good pictures showing great modifications. Pics for this index should be 350 pixels on the long side. NOTE: If you can't find a thread you are looking for, using this index or the search window, PM me and we will try and help you find it. If you want to start a new thread that will be featured in this index, start the thread in the How To section or other appropriate discussion sections and PM me with the link. 22. Had owyee today. Ran to the gas station to get gas for a buddy that ran out. Bought a 1 gal. container and returned. Forgot to lock the latch and just after pulling away the lid opened. I did really good through the first 4 corners at 65mph then on the 5 corner at 70mph the lid touched down. Finally he passed and stopped me before I tore it off. My owyee: My owyee It could have been worse. I could have torn it off! Now, what to do? 30 min. before it looked like this:
  23. The red is 3M the other is another brand. They were about the same to work with.
