Same here.  Klim Goretex gear and Alpinstar or Gaerne Goretex boots.  The only issue I have is gloves.  Still have not found any decent gloves.

Suggestions for good gloves that actually stay dry?

    Rob

I have a couple pair of older Rev’It GTX gloves - the Phantom which are my main pair for wet weather riding and the Alaska which are heavier and double as cold weather riding gloves. Both have kept me dry in wet weather.

Stay home and watch Netflix...  😉

Seriously, riding in the rain is miserable.  Occasionally I will get stuck in an unexpected shower, but to ride in the rain on purpose would never happen for me.  I ride for leisure and to have fun.

My winter riding gear is Tourmaster Transition Jacket and Caliber pants with Alpinestars Goretex gloves.

    100% agree Betoney.

It’s hard to avoid rain during long weekend and week long tours. If you tried to, you’d never go anywhere.

  3. In the almost 30 years that I’ve been riding, I’ve always done the over-jacket and pants rain  suit (2-piece). I’ve had many different ones, all with varying degrees of effectiveness.

I’ve owned dozens of jackets over the years, fom waxed Belstaff to A-Stars leather to mesh...you name it.

For gloves I wear Rev’It Goretex gloves and my Puma (yes Puma...you’d be surprised how great they are) boots also have GTX. So I do know first hand how well that technology works (both for keeping the water out and letting the vapour out). I also know how much $ it adds to the cost of a jacket and pants.

Lately I’ve been contemplating getting a jacket with a built-in (or removable) waterproof membrane but am not sure I’m ready to go full 3/4 length ADV style just yet. I’m also not sure about the concept of the waterproof layer sitting *under* the jacket (I get that it’s probably better to have the stronger material and armour on the outside) and getting soaked even though I will stay dry. Soaking wet leather or textile materials aren’t ideal especially on longer rides or tours.

I’ve been trolling all the sites and am now thoroughly overwhelmed with all the options...but the gear freak in me loves the choices available to us riders.

So - how do you (attempt to) stay dry?

    Cheers,

    Rob

PS. Some food for thought and a really well done video around the various WP technologies from various brands:

My military boots gave out a few years ago and I invested in a pair of $150 Firstgear Kili WP boots.  The first ride in the rain started out great, however, after 14 minutes of riding in medium rainfall, my feet were completely soaked.  What a complete disappointment for a decent pair of comfortable boots.  This year I pulled the trigger on a pair of Dainese Nexus D waterproof boots.  Last night on the way home from work at midnight in the best downpour of the year they did not leak at all; very encouraging after spending this amount of money.  But when you spend this much time in the saddle, good gear is worth its weight in gold.

I've always found Firstgear & Tourmaster stuff to be leaky.

This is an interesting watch - the guy from Fortnine (here in Canada) does some pretty clever videos. His findings will support what you've experienced with your Dainese boots!

Have been riding the Ninja 1000 since 2011.  Want to get a new sport touring bike this year as a retirement gift to myself and the Tracer GT is the only bike I am considering other than getting another Ninja 1000.  Have been lurking here to learn more.  The ergos on the Tracer are slightly more upright and there is a bit more leg room.....definitely something to consider for those of us who are beginning to get senior citizen discounts.  The Ninja is still all day comfortable for me, but after a test ride last October the Tracer is definitely a strong contender as it fit me very well, ( 6"1' with 34 inseam ), and seemed a bit more flickable than the Ninja.   Both my Ninjas have given me stellar service with bullet proof reliability, but I would expect the same of the Yamaha.

Same here. I had 2 Ninja 1000 before switching to the Tracer GT.

My second, a 2017 had issues with running hot and even overheating that no one could suss out, so I took that as a sign the motorcycle gods wanted me back on a Yamaha. 😎

    No regrets here.

    Hey rlambke19,

I bought the Grey GT model that was on display at Apex boot at the show. Brought it home few days ago on Friday. Now I am suffering from PMS=>Parked Motorcycle Syndrome.

Looking to put crash bars and tall windshield.

Are you located in the KW area?

Depending on your height, you might find that a shorter screen is better than taller.

I have the MRA sport screen on mine and it works great for me.

    Congrats on the new bike!

Took a look at the goo GT while at a motorcycle show last night, and noticed that the orientation of the front axle is reversed from the FJ. Gotta wonder why they would make such a seemingly trivial change. Right side of the front wheel...

Missed you at the show yesterday, Piotrek!

I spotted the black GT right away. And then gave the guys at Apex a hard time as I tried to buy one from them last year and they couldn’t get one. They had a nice grey model at their booth (same as mine) as well.

    Where did you buy yours?

I lived in Clinton for many years and I've known Donald since before he opened Platinum. He's a good guy, I've done business with him but have never had him work on my bikes. I do all my own wrenching.

I did inquire at Two Wheel when looking for a GT, they told me 2 were on order but none showed up as of Oct 25 when I picked mine up at Brian's.

Inglis had a grey one in their showroom in Aug-Sept and we looked at it a few times but decided to wait for black.

    Kelly’s Cycle Centre in Hamilton.

I wanted the black at first too, but fell in love with the grey after seeing it in person.

Donald is a solid guy...very dedicated and passionate about bikes.

He has some tires for me that I need to pickup in the spring.

Brian's Service Center, in Hensall. Last time I spoke with him he was getting another GT for stock this winter some time.

It's funny how some shops in SW Ontario are getting them and some aren't.

I tried to buy mine from Two Wheel in Guelph, but they got messed around by Yamaha and didn't end up getting any GT models.

Do you ever take your bikes to Platinum Powersports in Clinton?

Mine has been on for several thousand miles and I don't appear to be contacting it. YMMV. For reference: I ride in US size 10 boots, usually peg is at midpoint of boot and the heel doesn't reach the muffler, if tilting the horizon a bit peg is under toes/ball and boot is higher than the muffler.

Thanks! That’s how I ride as well in the same size boots.

Question - how does this finish stand up? Is it easy to keep clean? I normally go with Carbon Fibre cans...pretty easy to clean without worrying about tarnishing etc.

Oh wow, that is awesome. I hope they will be on my side of the world by spring as they advertise so I can start looking for my new helmet at a discounted rate if I chose the shoei.

Justin - are you located anywhere near Toronto? If so, GP Bikes always has great deals on helmets at the Bike Show in January. I plan on picking up a Shoei GT-Air or RF-1200 at the show next month. You can try on helmets to your hearts' desire and choose then. Just a suggestion.

  12. I got a seat concepts seat, which is a new cover + foam for the stock pan.
ECU is flashed and have a modified stock exhaust. The cat is empty so it has a lower growl and a bit lower but without the buzz on the highway.

Down to meet up if people want to get together! Im in KW but anywhere in GTA is fine
Hey Husqy Do you by any chance live in Waterloo?
I often see a red FJ ride past my office which is located at Erb & Westmount Road.
Seeing that bike ride by definitely helped push me in the direction of the Tracer!
    Cheers,

  13. You had a Akrapovic installed and then you changed it for a Yoshi?  Why ? Sound ? Performance? Does Yoshi gives somes additional Hp and torque like Akrapovic?  Thanks. I absolutly want to change my stock exhaust.
Are you talking about me? I did not install the akrapovic exhaust, but, I was seriously considering it, or possibly, the Hindle... but I chose the Yoshimura because it has is what I believe is the best combination of lightweight, power and sound all the while retaining an exhaust catalyst. It continues to be a great choice.

Why did you want to retain a cat?
To keep the fuelling somewhat consistent with stock so as to avoid a re-mapping?

    Cheers
