I remember reading about your issue on the Ninja forum.  That was strange and I don't think I ever heard of anyone else having this problem.  Sorry you were not able to work it out.

I kept my Ninja 1000......it is the bike I can never part with.  But this Tracer GT is quickly becoming my favorite all around bike as I have become more interested in the touring aspect of sport touring.

Cool. I figured there’d be some folks on both lists as great minds think alike!

How do you decide which bike to ride? I had an ‘03 VFR and an ‘01 ZX9R and I found I never rode the Viffer as it wasn’t as much fun as the 9R. I sold the Honda.

Do you use the Ninja for around town and the Tracer for longer rides?

    Cheers,

After some research on many exhaust systems in the U.S. and U.K. I found for my liking this was the best.

Full titanium and carbon fiber. No issues with center stand as you can see.

Any chance we can get a pic of the bike side-on? Or a sound bite video?

Jeebus that is a sexy looking exhaust system.

Awesome! When we were in Normandy we made sure to visit Pegasus Bridge too.

A critical piece of the D-Day invasions that often gets overlooked.

I tried it without the baffle and it was way too loud for my liking. With the baffle in though it really does sound amazing. No longer like a sewing machine ;)

Have a look at the pic of the downpipes. Probably doesn't show much but best I can do at the moment. They are much better than the OEM but like all pipes without protection, they take some keeping clean! If you want I can also sort a video out with it running, but can't do that until tomorrow. (also not sure if you can post on here). If not I can You Tube it and share the link.

    Cheers.

Nice. I like how they "hug" the lines of the engine, similar to the OEM header. I'm not a huge fan of how boxy the Akro header is. More pics and a video would be grand!

  5. Thanks for posting up another option @Mission360

Can't seem to find any pics of the header/down pipes on their website.

What's build quality/fit & finish like on the headers?

From the above picture it looks positive.

Also - I didn't see an option for a -db killer or insert. I found the exhaust note a tad loud in the video on their website.

(Edit: I found a note on their FAQ that "All our exhausts include a Hanging Strap with Rubber, Exhaust Clamps & a removable Baffle"

Also: "Without the baffle fitted these cans produce a nice, deep, very throaty GP sound - They will not disappoint! With the baffle fitted the decibel level is bought down to an acceptable road & track day level (Please note Track Days are getting stricter & stricter, we've even heard stories that bikes with the original factory exhaust have be turned away, please check with the Track). The baffle takes around 10-15 decibels off. The DB level will vary with different bikes, modern bikes with a catalyst converter are far quieter than bikes without."

  6. What bobbins are you using? I have a Pit Bull rear stand that I've used with many bikes over the years -the only thing that changes is the bobbins (size of bolt and length of bobbin) depending on swing arm and exhaust clearance (the latter is not a concern with the Tracer, obvs.). My stand is adjustable (like most) to accommodate the different widths of different bikes.

You will want to make sure that the stand doesn't come into contact with the swing arm when you raise the bike up. So take some time and measure twice. 🙂

As I haven't tried this with my Tracer yet, not sure how it will go with the center stand. I used to put my bikes onto the front wheel chock and then use the rear stand.

  7. Hey folks

    Just found out about this!

I'm in Cambridge and I would be down for a meet up - but July 27th doesn't work for me due to family vacation. Next time for sure!

If you want to meet in the Orangeville or Erin area (good jumping off point for Forks/Hockley etc.) I could suggest the parking lot of the little plaza/gas station at the corner of 124 and Trafalgar Road. There is a Petro Canada there as well as a great diner called Judy's (good food).

It's not a super-busy plaza and has lots of room for bikes.

    staticmap?center=43.7451652%2C-80.076822

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in...

I wouldn't recommend meeting at the Forks on a Saturday as it's so busy nowadays.

The Hockley General Store is a great place, but depending on when you are there and how many attend, parking can be a challenge.

    Just a suggestion.

Well crap! A news item on pedstop’s website as of today says they are going out of business. I guess that explains the lack of response and means that I will have to go the fraud route.

Hopefully they have something in place to automatically refund the money of people whose order they cannot fulfill!

    That sucks Duke.

  9. Shoei RF-1200

Had a Shoei Qwest before this and love how that brand fits my head.

Ignore the price tag - I bought mine in January at the bike show and paid less. 🙂

The matte finishes on helmets has come a long way - they are so simple to keep clean.

Just wanna check with the guys in here. You know how when you switch off the bike, there will be a black background with a white Yamaha logo on the screen just before the bike switches off for good.

Just happened today that when I switched it off, the screen was white and the Yamaha logo was red. Anyone encountered this before? And what's the reason? Is this some Easter egg Yamaha created for the bike?

I just noticed the same thing yesterday (first ride of the season) - was a black logo for most times and then randomly once it was red.

Turn on and back off again and it was black again.

I was having something even more bizarre happening with my GT late last season. Every once in awhile, when turning the ignition to the "On" position (not even starting the bike) - the whole central portion of the TFT screen stayed black. Eg. No dash lights other than the ones around the perimeter of the screen.

My dealer worked with Yamaha Canada and they hadn't seen it before so they swapped out the whole dash. I was also having some funkiness with my turn signals at the same time, where they were doing this dot-dot-dash (think Morse Code) blinking which apparently is some code that means something to the technicians.

No issues with the dash staying blank yesterday, but I did notice the turn signals doing that dot-dot-dash thing again. Looks like I need to call the dealer again...

rlambke19, I have a GT and bought used FJR bags just for the lids. I painted them and swapped them onto my bags by simply removing the hinge pins, perfect fit.

The right FJR bag has a broken top hook but the latch and locking mechanisms are fine, you can have it if you want to try make one good from two broken bags.

Thanks GV550 - I will let you know how it goes and may take you up on your offer!

    Cheers

  12. Folks,

I have a line on a set of used FJR bags.

The lids are in good shape, but the one latching mechanism (plastic tab that slides out into the mount on the bike) is broken. My Yamaha dealer spoke to Yamaha Canada and you cannot buy this part separately from them. You need to buy the whole "inner" bag. Read: $$

So, I have the paint-matched City bags on my GT, for which I understand the inner bag has the exact same footprint as the FJR bags - although apparently Yamaha Canada won't confirm 😕

My question is, has anyone actually swapped out the "lids" or outer bag (the painted part) from an FJR bag onto a Tracer GT/FJ-09 inner bag?

If so, what is required to do so? It appears that the hinges on the Tracer bags are attached with rivets from the bottom. Do these need to be cut and replaced?

For what it's worth, I have searched the forum and have read through all the FJR bag posts that I could find and while there are some references to this mod, @clintthere is nothing that talks about specifically doing it or what is required. Plus a lot of pictures and even some of the members in those threads are no longer on the site.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob

Rob, I have a slightly taller MRA screen on my GT and I didn't bother trying to install the edge piping; just left it off and never looked back.  Works very well for me.

    MRA.3.jpeg

I have also left mine off. Would like to "polish" or smooth the edges a bit as they look unfinished.

I'm thinking some light buffing wheel on a Dremel would do the trick, but not sure it's worth the bother.

Is this Black screen an M.R.A. screen ? and if so did you fit any push on piping round the screen. ???

@edgarjessop12 - I have the MRA sport screen on my GT - and no I didn't install the edge piping. I fought with it for over an hour and then said screw it. It looks fine without it. I contacted MRA in Germany and they told me to glue it on. No thanks...can only imagine what kind of mess that could potentially make.

Thank you for your consideration, 3B, and your interest in my style (such as it is).   These sox seem to be a good idea, but alas I could not possibly wear them as their blue colour would clash violently with my red bike.   Otherwise, would seem worthwhile...

They come in black too. 😉

Same here.  Klim Goretex gear and Alpinstar or Gaerne Goretex boots.  The only issue I have is gloves.  Still have not found any decent gloves.

Suggestions for good gloves that actually stay dry?

    Rob

I have a couple pair of older Rev’It GTX gloves - the Phantom which are my main pair for wet weather riding and the Alaska which are heavier and double as cold weather riding gloves. Both have kept me dry in wet weather.

Seriously, riding in the rain is miserable.  Occasionally I will get stuck in an unexpected shower, but to ride in the rain on purpose would never happen for me.  I ride for leisure and to have fun.

My winter riding gear is Tourmaster Transition Jacket and Caliber pants with Alpinestars Goretex gloves.

    100% agree Betoney.

It’s hard to avoid rain during long weekend and week long tours. If you tried to, you’d never go anywhere.

  18. In the almost 30 years that I’ve been riding, I’ve always done the over-jacket and pants rain  suit (2-piece). I’ve had many different ones, all with varying degrees of effectiveness.

I’ve owned dozens of jackets over the years, fom waxed Belstaff to A-Stars leather to mesh...you name it.

For gloves I wear Rev’It Goretex gloves and my Puma (yes Puma...you’d be surprised how great they are) boots also have GTX. So I do know first hand how well that technology works (both for keeping the water out and letting the vapour out). I also know how much $ it adds to the cost of a jacket and pants.

Lately I’ve been contemplating getting a jacket with a built-in (or removable) waterproof membrane but am not sure I’m ready to go full 3/4 length ADV style just yet. I’m also not sure about the concept of the waterproof layer sitting *under* the jacket (I get that it’s probably better to have the stronger material and armour on the outside) and getting soaked even though I will stay dry. Soaking wet leather or textile materials aren’t ideal especially on longer rides or tours.

I’ve been trolling all the sites and am now thoroughly overwhelmed with all the options...but the gear freak in me loves the choices available to us riders.

So - how do you (attempt to) stay dry?

    Cheers,

    Rob

PS. Some food for thought and a really well done video around the various WP technologies from various brands:
