    Hello Everyone

I'm looking into the sport touring world, and the Tracer 900 GT is in my top 3.

I've heard very good things about the CP3, torque always available and very reliable.

Currently owning a sport naked bike, which I'm willing to keep for short and fun rides.

    I live in Nashville, TN

    I'm 5'9" 160lbs

    My main concerns are:

any vibrations on handlebar and/or foot pegs from the engine?

my naked bike is a 650 inline 4, sometimes my hands and feet go a little numb.

wind buffeting with stock wind screen? is it bad? do you suggest replacing it with a wider one?

How good is this bike in terms of comfort on long trips? (like 9 hours straight, with gas/food stops and legs stretch)

Do you recommend the comfort seat?

For my weight, do you think the stock springs would do just fine? (I'll be using the panniers and top case, so fully loaded)

There is a guy in my area that is selling a 2019 GT, ridden 4.300 miles, with givi ST605 5LTR tank bag and Yamaha 50l top case, puig racing windscreen for $11.500

It looks spot on, do you think it's a fair price?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I have a 2019 GT and it's my first triple after owning many i4 bikes - everything from a 1200 Bandit (ridiculously buzzy) to ZX-14s (super smooth). The CP3 engine only gets vibey if you want it to and push it - but honestly I've never felt it to be bad at all. Even with the stock footpegs (no rubber) I don't notice any annoying vibrations.

The stock seat isn't bad, to be honest. I've put my fair share of Corbin's and Sargent's over the years and I've done several 3-4 day trips on my stock seat and haven't felt the need to swap it out yet. If I keep it for a few more years I might swap it out. From what I've read on here and other forums, the comfort seat from Yamaha doesn't change things much.

I'm around the same size as you and the stock suspension is fine - although upgrading suspension is never a bad use of $.

As for the stock windshield - awful. I went with an MRA Sport screen (not the MRA Touring - they are different) and love the air flow I get. It's there, but it is clean air with no buffeting. I think the Puig Racing screen is similar to the MRA Sport.

I can't really comment on the price as I'm in Canada, but there is a 2019 GT with 9K miles on it at a local Yamaha dealer for just under $13K CAD, which is $9800 USD. Looks pretty stock.

Hope this helps! Good luck with the search!

    Rob

PS. I think you'll find that the Tracer is fun for ripping around town too - drop the bags and the trunk.

There is no 'quick disconnect' other than 4 bolts, which means about 2-3 minutes per side.

Shad are not a Yamaha product therefore not available from Yamaha.  Direct from Shad they are just over $700 with the racks, I cant find any place online that has them in stock.

Here is a photo of the rack system.

Here in Canada - you can buy Shad products directly from Yamaha. They are listed as available accessories for the Tracer.

The mounting system for the GT and the non-GT (as pictured above) are different. It's hard to tell, but looks like 3-4 bolts still. I really did like the ease of use with my Motech racks and Givi bags.

    Cheers

These are very are nice side cases, but size/width-wise... kinda look like they might be equivalent to Shad SH36. For this same Shad mounting system, a smaller set of inexpensive cases (SH23) is available for the everyday/commuting etc. See this thread for comparison.

I am not necessarily promoting Shad per se (their support in NA has been inconsistent), but this type of setup/solution has served me very well. I switch to the large boxes on week-long outings (~3 times a year), and otherwise the smaller cases are always on the bike. Just a thought.

Just confirming that the Shad racks stay on the bike at all times, correct?  Eg. There is no "quick disconnect" to remove them when not in use.

Where are people purchasing their Shad gear from? Direct from Yamaha or is there a cheaper option?

My thoughts are you have to decide whats more important to you Form or Function. When I test rode the GT last year I knew that he standard panniers woudn't do it for me and one of the reasons I finally went for the bike I bought was it came with a full set of Shad luggage. But realisticly I only use the side cases two or three weekends a year and My weeks camping tour with my two pals. What was of more importance to me was how the bike looked If I wasn't riding with the panniers on I don't particularly like the look of some of the pannier racks on the side of the bike and prefer the simpler looking support for the shad panniers.

    2.jpg

Wholly agree. I've had hard panniers on my bikes since my '98 Bandit 1200 (Corbin Beetle Bags), several different iterations of Givi bags (heck, I even put V35s on my ZX-14!) and various versions of stock bags on different bikes (VFR etc.)

I like the almost non-existent mounting points of the OEM GT bags when the bags are off.

And like you, I really only need the extra room for my week long trips 2 or 3 times a year. I don't use a trunk/top case but strap a tail bag to my passenger seat - which works fine...but I would like a little extra room in the panniers. I do have FJR pannier lids, but haven't bothered to sap them out as I'm still not 100% sure that I want to go this route.

@HGP61 - any chance you can post a pic of your bike with the panniers removed?

    Cheers,

    Rob

@rlambke19 - Those side bags look nice.  I would like to see photos from the rear of the bike, that's the only thing I don't like about my Shad 36 cases, very bulbous and wide, (but they will hold my XL helmet,) I wish the mounting rack allowed them to be mounted about 3" inboard on each side.

Here are some reviews on the V37 cases.

    givi_v37_side_cases.jpg

Inject some Italian style into your ride while adding a whopping 74 liters of...

Agreed - the picture that I posted was the closest thing to the rear view as I could find.

Thanks for the link to the reviews - the second one is from a "Robert B" who has them on his '15 FJ-09 - so maybe they are also on here and will chime in.

Similar to the SW Motech racks I had on my Ninja, the racks can easily be removed when the bags aren't on the bike. See below for with and without rack.

  6. Hi all

Does anyone have a set of Givi V37 side bags on their bike? I believe that @fjrpittsburgh has a set on his FZ-07, but I wasn't able to find any other references on the site.

I know that the mounting rails for the GT and non-GT are different - but was just curious if anyone has any experience with them.

I had Givi V35 bags (with Motech racks) on my Ninja 1000 and they are well-made and offer so much more space than the ones that came on my GT.

I really like the look of the V37 bags as they are more streamlined and to me, fit the look of the bike better than some of the other options out there.

    Cheers,

    Rob

  7. I had a 2013 N1K and then a 2017 model.

My biggest complaint was how hot the bike ran and the short gearing. I was always looking for 7th gear.

    But smooth and powerful.

I actually find my Tracer GT more fun and flickable and of course the triple engine has far more character than the i-4.

I've been looking at the Shad PIN tank bags. I like that the quick connect system is all metal. There is no plastic in the mechanism to wear out over time. Currently I have a Cortech Dryver system, and after about 3 seasons of regular use, the ring only barely latches because the plastic has worn down. The Shad system looks really clean when the bag is removed too.

Are these the ones that Yamaha sells?

Anyone recently got the sargent? Wonder if there any more updates :)

There is a guy near where I live who posted on one of the FB Tracer pages that his GT Sargent seat arrived (he hadn't installed it yet). I asked him if he had heard about the GT seat fiasco and he said he was chatting with "Bill" on this forum - but not sure who Bill is.

I asked him to post up his findings when he gets it installed.

"As much as I hate sending my money to China"

That  was the line that started me on my China rant....It bothers me to see most tags on product that is made  over there and very few in U.S.A or Canada.  I understand why things are brought in from China from a financial aspect( boy would we be paying high prices on consumer goods if it didn't come from there!).

    Gotcha.

  11. 10 hours ago, stumpy said:

well check your tags and you will see most things are made in china these days...don't feel bad because importers for all the main stores in our countries outsource most everything to china ...so buying a set of levers, rad guard etc. won't tip the balance.

I have bought several things through places like ali express with great luck.  just one set of headphone ear pads at 3$ didn't come to me.  my $27 windscreen has been a great experiment on not buying a $160 one here.  With my MT-01 I have to shop over seas for everything, not being sold in the US hurts me getting aftermarket support.

but in saying this...i think everything was shipped from china.

Not sure if you were referring to the OP or my post,  but what I meant was that I haven’t ordered anything specifically from Ali express or eBay from China. Fully understand that a majority of retail goods these days are manufactured in China (just as they once were in Japan, Eastern Europe etc.)

  12. Did you get to the show yesterday @stumpy?

I know it’s not on your list, but 613 Motorsports from Ottawa is there and are blowing out AGV helmets (also Astars jackets and Sidi boots).

As usual GP Bikes is there with the best selection of helmets.

One of my riding buddies was looking at the RPHA and GT Air (1)and went with the Shoei.

    Good luck with the search!

Where is he located? Can he flash the ECU thru the data port or does the tank have to be removed to remove the ECU? If you get it done, please report on your findings. Thank you.

He's in the GTA - not sure about exact location, but you can find/message him on FB and Instagram. Apparently he is very responsive.

Yamaha doesn't publish by-model sales breakdowns, at least not for US street bikes that I've ever seen. We will usually get about as far as 500cc+ street etc.

I'd prefer to stay at the current price point and let me do suspension. I don't have a GT but the brakes on the 15 FJ are plenty good imo. For reference, I'm in the fast group in SoCal track days.

'20 will be the last model year for the FJR. There's a send off commemorative edition with gold wheels etc. Probably less about sales than the  '21 Euro5 requirements. Expect to see some models from all mfgs that have had long production runs go away or changed significantly.

On a barely-related note: how many V-Max do you think they sell?

I actually had to check to see if it was even offered as a 2019 model.

Sad that the FJR will be going away.

The fit at the tank still looks the same but they obviously added some material at the front.  I am guessing it is still a modified version of their FJ-09 pan.  I guess I am a bit picky......want something comfortable that fits properly as well.

    Yeah - I am too.

I likely won;t be buying a Sargent for the GT anytime soon based on this.

Traded my GT in august, it’s for sale at Stratford Cycle in case anyone is looking. Great bike and lots of fun but fed up with chain drive. Accessories listed in the for sale section.

What did you end up with?

Are you in Arizona now or still in Ontario?

i might be interested in the lids and the manual.

Sargent has a sale this weekend.  Took $49 off my order, ($329.99 down to $280.46)   Free ground shipping, no tax to NY.  ;D

    DISCOVER19    is the discount code.

My boys are looking forward to not sliding into the tank...

    Rob

    Hey Rob

Did you order a GT seat or standard FJ seat?

Someone on here mentioned that Sargent was halting the sale of the GT seat while they addressed the fitment issues.

    Cheers,
