     Review in English

Read our expert, in-depth Yamaha Tracer 9 review - a fine sports-tourer that...

I think this paragraph sums up the dash:

"The split 3.5" TFT is a sound idea, with trip customisation data on the right and tacho and other figures on the left, but the display is set too far forward for taller riders, is hard to see in the sun and is an instant dust-trap."

Dust trap - ugh. There goes my OCD.

I've already reached out to Speedo Angels - and as soon as they can get into a bike shop they will and get a template made up for the dash. I've basically pre-ordered mine. 🙂

With the OEM exhaust on this as a hole out the bottom it'll be interesting to see if any aftermarket exhaust options will be available.

They will have to get creative for sure. There are actually two holes and apparently those who have ridden it say it sounds pretty good (as stock exhausts go).

  3. Wow...lots of hate on here for the new model. To each their own, I guess.

Personally I am looking forward to my 2021 Tracer 9 GT (if it ever does show up). And yes, the dash is the one thing I am the most nervous about - but in speaking to several folks in Europe that have seen the bike in person- they all report that it's much nicer/better looking when seeing it "in the flesh".

Given that I am excited about every other aspect of the bike - I'm good with it.

The discounts where I live on previous model years are not significant enough to make me want to go with that option. And that I haven't been bike-less for this long in over 25 years, I'm excited.

  4. Starting to hear more late-April, early May dates around the interwebs. My dealer said he'll know once it's on a ship or once it shows up. Amazing that you can get better delivery notices/orders/confirmations etc. for a $5 light bulb on  Amazon but it's basically radio silence on a $16K motorcycle. (and yes, I know that's not an apples-to-apples comparison). 🙂

  5. Latest "review". This guy in the UK was attending a launch of a Yamaha scooter and got his hands on a Tracer 9GT and did this impromptu review/walkaround. Not the greatest review, but at least it gives us another look at the bike in the light of day. Press launch for the new Tracer is in Barcelona in the next day or so...this is a decent stop gap until those vids hit the YouTubes.

  6. Right on @Rovari! Another Ontario Tracer rider!  I've been riding about the same amount of time as you.

The press launch should be the start of "regular" folks (eg. not Yamaha marketing people) getting a chance to ride the bikes and tell us what they think. These days, I would expect several of the "moto vloggers" to also be invited to this - and they tend to be a bit more honest about the bikes than the traditional print media used to be.

Regardless, more reviews and vids are only a good thing.

Hope to see you on the road!

    Cheers

  7. So, someone on one of the many Tracer FB groups posted that "a journalist on the paddock podcast said he will be attending the launch of the Tracer 9 next week" No additional details at this point...but hopefully that means some better reviews than the text-to-voice bot crap that's out there now with re-hashed Yamaha promotional footage! 🙂

So what color is Icon Performance?  In the U.S. we are supposed to get "Liquid Metal" which is a white-ish silver and the "Redline",  we don't get the "Tech Camo" or the "Icon Performance". 🤷‍♀️

Icon Performance is the same as Liquid Metal for markets outside of North America. I believe it is some "homage" to the R1 racing colours or what-have-you.

Thanks for that, Rob. I must say, to my eyes there is not a lot of green in that! Which actually makes it a bit more appealing. We hardly want Kawasaki green now, do we!

Yeah - it's more of a greyish-green. I think if they offered it here, I would be tempted.

I was a Kawi rider for many years - Kawi green has it's appeal too. But not on a Yamaha. I'll never forget how weird that Honda CBR that had lime green on it looked a few years ago. 🙂

Ah, ok. That matches the name a little better. Definitely seems like a something you need to see IRL to get a true idea of what it looks like.

I probably should have realised that matt-black might have been a bit too close to teenage angst for a company going thru its mid-life blurple crisis 🙂

This is the walkaround I was referring to. It will give you a better idea of the colour of the "Tech Kamo"

I think the "Kamo" is a matt dark green when you see it in the metal interesting enough if you like dark green and don't like your bike all sparkly and colourful.

    Yep.

@ZigMerid - scroll back up through this thread and you should see a link to a walkaround done by Critical Rider. You'll get a better idea of what the Tech Kamo colour looks like.

    Cheers

In North America, the 2021 Tracer 9 GT will be available in April for $1,900 more than the 2020 Tracer GT and includes panniers.

    That's USD.

It's around $2400 more in Canadian dollars (one of the other parts of North America) 😉

We are only getting the GT model in North America as far as I know.

Hopefully Yamaha comes out with a new heavily updated and re-designed FJR1300, but of course the same needs to be done with the Super Tenere as well.

I thought the FJR has been retired from the Yamaha lineup? Was that only temporarily until they can make it Euro5 compliant? I got the sense that it was permanent.

Now this girl might just be the ticket, for sure what I would be writing a check for.

Each tour is determined by two factors: the time and the distance...

It is one of the best looking sport-touring machines out there. I absolutely love it and it's super comfy. However, in my opinion it has three major downfalls:

    1. It's a BMW - cost of ownership and once that warranty is done, I'd be very afraid. I've never owned a BMW - so I could just be talking out of my arse - but I have heard horror stories - which you can hear about any marque if you look hard enough.

    2. The price tag once you get it nicely kitted out.

    3. The boxer engine. I test rode an RS and wanted to love it so badly - I just couldn't. Now that was the previous iteration of the big boxer engine - apparently they've done something to improve it. But even if so, there are still points 1 & 2 above.

  15. Hey all

I have a set of the grey OEM City bags off of my 2019 GT that I no longer own (it was written off in an accident last fall).

The bags are in mint shape and were only used for a couple of trips. One key included.

If you are interested, send me a message and I will send you pictures if you want.

Prefer to avoid the hassle of shipping, so hoping for local pickup/meetup etc.

Looking for $500 for the pair.

    Cheers,

That is all I have seen from UltimateMotorcycling. I am hoping they have some sort of media/demo day prior to my bike coming in so that I can having something to read and hold me over while the snow falls. Hopefully if that occurs a bit more can be answered as well.

Agreed - that is what would normally happen. They'd invite the press to ride it in Spain or something and we'd be inundated with videos/reviews. Depends on whether or not Covid changes things this time around or not.

We can at least console each other on here in the meantime! Lol
