Speaking of inline 4s ... I did have / enjoy an S1000R for a year but as much as I like inline 4s, it was always itching to go fast. Everywhere. No ride was relaxing as it was always trying to kill me or get me a ticket. 😁 Very comfortable bike though, surprisingly. Traded that for the Tracer, which for me is a better fit.

I had a ZX-12R that was always trying to kill me or get me a ticket. Frightening amount of power. So I sold it and bought a ZX-14. Lol

Sorry to the OP for hi-jacking the thread!

I went down the non-GT route when I traded up three years ago. but the main reason (apart from the price difference of going second hand) was the panniers on the GT at that time were only 22L each and I felt they were too small for my touring needs. That dosen't apply for the new tracer 9 because Yamaha have made them a more useful size. I tweeked with the standard suspension until it worked for me and fitted yamaha heated grips. The only thing I hanker after is cruise control but the new Tracer 9 comes with that as standard. If I was in the market for trading up I would probably go for the non-GT tracer 9 but fit My SHAD panniers to it.

That's what it was! Cruise control (and not heated grips) is now standard on both GT and non-GT models! I knew there was something that now came standard that never used to. Thanks @HGP61! 🙂

  3. Thanks @Grumpy Goat

I only asked as I have always thought the RS was the sharpest looking ST bike out there. I rode one for about 35 minutes and I think I am just used to higher-revving bikes. At the time I was riding a Ninja 1000SX and riding the boxer was weird as it wants to upshift at such lower RPMs than I am used to. I am pretty much addicted to the triple right now after so many years of ignorance. "It can't be as good as 4 inline as it's got one less cylinder" - what  i dumbass I was. 😉

    Cheers

  4. Ah - the Tech Camo - very nice choice.

Yes, the panniers or side cases can be bought separately - but keep in mind you will need to buy the mounting kit/brackets as well - and that can get expensive. You might work out a deal at purchase for them. Not to say that the Yamaha bags are the only option out there...

I'll have to go back through the spec sheet to refresh my memory on what you get with GT over the non as it's changed since the previous model and the non-GT isn't even available here in Canada for 2021-22 so I didn't have to contemplate it. For example, heated grips used to come on the GT only - now I think they come standard on both models.

I will say though that the semi-active suspension is awesome. It just works.

As far as I know, there is absolutely nothing new with the 2022 model - I'm not even sure that given the pandemic and delivery delays etc. that Yamaha has released new colour schemes for 2022...I think it's basically the same bikes with a 2022 badge.

  5. Hi Sunde

Where are you located? It would help to know when answering your questions.

I'm guessing the UK or EU (maybe AUS) as we never did get the VFR800x here in North America.

Also, here in NA the 2020 model is the same as the 2018 & 2019. The Tracer 9 was a 2021 (and now 2022) model.

I've had both a 2019 GT and a 2021 T9 GT so I can likely help answer some questions.

Yes I am. Came to Houston for work back in 2001.

I see from your signature that you also have a 1200RS. I almost bought one but the characteristics of the boxer engine weren't what I was looking for. Ended up with my first Tracer (2019 GT) and am now on my second (2021 T9 GT).

How do you like the RS and when do you ride it over the Tracer?

    Cheers

Quick question for Tracer owners. This bike is definitely the top contender for my next steed, but I come from the world of naked bikes and am very sensitive to annoying wind noise courtesy of bad wind screens.

I was wondering, how high do you think turbulent wind will come off the bike if there is no screen at all? Or a tiny screen as high as the gauges? I ask because as long as I have the option of going full naked on this bike (leaving my helmet in 100% clean air), I won't have an issue taking a risk on wind noise.

I'm 5'7", relatively short torso/long arms if it helps. I have a feeling that on this bike, no wind screen would leave my head in turbulent air...

I'm going to try my best to get a test ride, but that alone is hard going here in Ontario...And I doubt they'd let me test it with no screen on.

    Thanks!

Replace the stock screen with a sport version from Puig, Ermax or (my preference) MRA.

You will still get air, but it will be "clean" - eg. no buffeting or turbulence.

I'm 5'8" and this has been my experience with my MRA Sport screen.

@rlambke19 Yes,got the bike with the fog lights fitted, about 4 weeks ago. Very happy with them. Will try and take pics. of them in the next few days.

    Kenny.

    Thanks Kenny!

I am most interested in how the bracket mounts up. I have an EvoTech rad guard, so hoping that won't get in the way.

The fog lights themselves are available here in Canada - although they are pricey ($500 CAD).

    Cheers

  9. @Kenny A. - have you received your Yamaha fog lights yet? @yamtracergaz- have you?

I am looking to order the Yamaha fog light stay / bracket from the UK as here in North America they attach to an engine guard, which I don't want. I would love to see some pictures of the installed lights and bracket if you could take some once you have them installed!

    Cheers,

Nope. Honda no longer has the wool pulled over my eyes. The last time they got me was the CB1100. How Honda, managed to dumb down an eleven hundred cc, four cylinder motor, is beyond me. And to top it off, govern the top speed to 110. But to also make such a stunningly beautiful motorcycle so bland and boring, was all I could take.

I get it. This NT is a different flavor to that CB. But what Honda excels at these days, is....*yawn*... putting people to sleep....

They definitely know how to engineer the fun out of motorcycles. Fit and finish can't be beat though.

That's the beauty of variety and having options, just like pizza, you like sausage and onion and I like Hawaiian with pineapple and jalapenos...  in the end its still PIZZA. 👍 🍻

Mmm...now I want pizza (and beer).

I have yet to try the DCT but am very curious.  Just like the Niken, A LOT of motorcyclists brushed it off (myself included)... until they rode one.  I admit I was VERY impressed.  I have read many bike reviews on different DCT models and journalists admitting that going into the test ride that they wanted to hate it but after awhile had a different opinion, especially since it can me over ridden at any point and operated manually with the left hand +/- shift buttons.  Its not a selling point for me but I definitely want a test ride to see what its all about.

    That's totally fair.

I will say that I enjoy manually shifting so much that I disabled my quick shifter on my bike as soon as I got it.

I have since re-enabled the downshift portion, but not a fan of the upshift feature. I still use my clutch most of the time.

    This.  100% this.

It's so refreshing to see bikes that a lot of us with actually use and enjoy in the real world, over multiple years of ownership.  It all comes full circle, eventually...

    Totally agree with you both.

The new Suzuki 1000 GT as well.

    It's good to have choices!

I was up there on Thursday with a buddy on a Speedster, and again on Saturday heading toward Royal... but I was solo... as far as I could tell 🤨. I have some daily/evening go-to loops in that general area.

I can't remember what road it was on...maybe Cedar Springs Road? We were heading north - the red FJ was heading south. Would have been around 11am or so.
