  1. Hey folks

Since the location map is no longer available on this site, @Husqy and I are looking to see who is local to us for a meetup at some point. Kind of late in the season for sure - but better late than never. Could also come in handy for next season or even if folks wanted to do a meetup off the bikes throughout the winter to help pass the time.

Anyways - please respond to this post if you are interested!

    Cheers

Yeah the red is pretty rare! I looked for about a year before one popped up on the market. Bought it 5 years ago now :).

I'm guessing you mean 150km? I love that loop. Campbellville down through rattlesnake, into waterdown, snake road into Dundas lookout. Great little run

We should do a little tri-city meetup with the bikes!

    Haha - yep - 150km.

I haven't ridden on Snake Road in a long time. Those rumble strips are ridiculous. Although I know a lot of cyclists and motorcyclists have died on that road. It's been 1/2 re-paved - so it's no longer a "go fast" road, but then again I never road it like a wannabe Rossi anyways. The best part of that is the southern part...great pavement and some nice big sweepers.

I'm down for a meet. How many are we in the tri-cities?

    That's my bike - who's asking ;)?

Went up to Muskoka with my 2 buddies (KTM and Ducati pictured) to enjoy the fall colours on the Oct 1st weekend.

    Hey @Husqy

I saw that picture posted on the GTAM message board. I know Rick has a red FJ - so was just curious.

The colours are spectacular right now. Did a 15km loop through the Ancaster/Dundas Valley and the escarpment around Milton. Brilliant!

    Cheers!

Have you considered having the lids wrapped. Might check that out, as thoe shops might have some scraps left from a car job. Likely much cheaper than new bags/lids.

The trouble would be colour matching them.

Plus the panels (its not the full lid as the old FJR bags used to be) are $50 CAD. I'd rather have the actual panel, but wrapping would be a solid option.

  5. I'm currently looking to order a set of the "silver" ones (which Yamaha Canada actually refers to as "Bluish White Metallic 2 - BWM2) from the UK.

    Thanks for the link @Denideul!

I have contacted them to see if they ship to Canada.

Btw, I have been to Arras - very beautiful city - the cathedral was spectacular. We stayed there when visiting Vimy Ridge.

Yes, you can unclip as per the red circle.  Once the hoses are out etc, if you're taking the tire off, the clips can be removed from the fender by squeezing the tabs together on the tire side of the fender.

    Thank you @knyte!

That's what I suspected. As I am not removing the wheel I was hoping this would work.

    Cheers!

Undo the clip and don't loose the split rubber spacer grommet.

    @Cogswell

When you say undo the clip - do you mean the clip that I have circled in the picture below?

Does this release the hose and leave the whole clip attached to the fender without the hose?

  8. Hey all

Received my Pyramid Fender Extender today and want to install before my week long trip next week.

Want to remove the front fender, which on previous bikes was fairly straight forward. Remove the bolts and pop out the clips that hold the brake hoses etc.

I'm assuming that it's a similar deal with this bike, but as I was looking at the brake hose clips more closely, they almost look like they can be undone (eg. undo the clip and remove the hose from  the fender) while leaving the actual clip part in the fender. That just seems to make too much sense - so I doubt its a "thing".

I've attached a few pics to show what I am referring to.

Can anyone who has removed the fender confirm whether you had to reach behind the fender with a pliers and do the "squeeze" thing and pull the whole clip out of the fender or not?

    Thanks in advance!

    Rob

Now I'm even more anxious to get one lol.

That following weekend I was actually going to pull the ECU to get it flashed to smooth out the throttle and have been trying back and forth about the exhaust. I mean the stock exhaust was ok, but I've heard it with an Akropovich and graves, sounds amazing, but it was hard to justify the price tag.

I'll be really happy if my helmet fits in the saddlebags (I have a cardo hanging off the side), it does get tiring carrying it around.

I'm pretty sure it will fit with the Cardo as the helmet needs to go in sideways (top facing outwards) to fit. To be honest I haven't ever tried it!

I was on the fence about trading in my 2019 900 GT for a 2021 9 GT when they came out. So many upgrades. It didn't make sense financially at the time so I didn't.

Just totaled the 2019 a few weeks ago so looking for a 2022.

What's it like going from the 2019 to the 2021?

First off - sorry to hear about your accident. I can relate as my 2019 GT was also written off by a street racer cutting me off.

The differences are subtle, yet really excellent. The bike is smoother and more refined all around. The semi-active suspension works well for me. The stock exhaust sounds great. It's the first bike in a long time that I don't feel the slightest bit compelled to look at an aftermarket exhaust. The panniers are a big step up as they actually hold a reasonable amount of stuff as opposed to the old city cases on the 2019.

You will really enjoy it - it's like your 2019 - just better in almost every way!

Get well vented set (Klim perhaps). Gore-Tex doesn’t breathe as well as textile gear.

AFAIK, the majority of Klim gear uses Gore Tex for waterproofing.

My experience with Gore Tex is that it is the ONLY waterproofing membrane technology that actually breathes.

Got it home, trade went smooth.
So far have installed and toned screen (can still see through tho) dashboard protection, tank grips and a rad guard. And on top of that i have ceramic coated basically everything, should make it easy to maintain for a while. I'll probably adjust the handlebares a bit forward as i feel them a bit close, other than that i wont mess with it untill i have ridden it and seen if i want anything else done.

The quality and fit/finish is really good as far as i can tell, i am SUPER stoked to go for a ride in a few weeks time :)

Some terrible pics from my basement.

    Very nice!

Which dash protector did you go with? I have the Speedo Angels one, but it's 8 pieces and honestly - I haven't out it on yet as it looks like a nightmare.

Here in Canada everything costs more. Weve had to get used to it over the years. However, when my policy renewal arrived in the mail I had to do a double take!   What was costing $700 last year for my "19 Tracer was suddenly $1451!! I have no claims and a clean record and am over 60 years old.  I called another broker and was quoted $1060 .   On a slow day at work - you have to wait on hold forever- I got through to another rep at the original carrier and asked for an explanation of the 100% increase. After a 15 minute hold he came back and said there had been an error and that the policy should be $680!  An $800 difference is a hell of an error!  He said the "computer " had made an error on their bike policies. Two weeks later the docs arrived. Glad I called to question the outrageous premium. I'll bet some clients have just sucked it up and sent payment.

There was a thread for this on the GTA Motorcycle Forum around TD Insurance (Security National) policies.

Their system was sending out renewals without riders' licensing or experience taken into consideration. I'm hoping that by the time my renewal arrives it's been corrected. Even just seeing an ridiculous increase would be annoying. And yes - you shouldn't have to call them for them to be correcting this.

Thanks! I am pretty stoked haha

Just got off the phone with one of the major Yamaha stores in DK (TINY store compared to what you see elsewhere but still they knew more than my tiny local shop)
Apparently they'v been ordered by Yamaha DK not to sell anymore as they were deemed to be of "sup par quality"
New ones of i assume better quality should be in by the end of Q1 2022
Little mystified but alas, i'd rather not go aftermarket if i can avoid it.

Hmm...one would think that the OEM parts they sell separately would be the same as the ones that get installed at the factory on the GTs. Maybe Yamaha got desperate and went with a different manufacturer due to #supplychainissues

Or, as mentioned above - we will all be discovering the sub-par-ness of the heated grips. 😕

Regardless, new bike day is coming!!!

    🙂

    Deal is done!
I will have the bike next week probably.
Very pleased with how the trade went, however annoyed that my dealer was unable to fit heated grips, apparently Yamaha has prevented the purchase of these (at least in Denmark) due to a number of issues.
He cant tell me when i will be able to buy them even O.o

    Congrats on pulling the trigger!

I wonder what the issue is...maybe the rest of us should expect a service bulletin or recall notice...

Going to see if i can make a deal tomorrow, i'll try go get them to add in the heated grips and quickshifter, basically all i'll be lacking from the GT spec will be suspension and panniers, and those i plan to deal with as i get the funds ;)
    Fingers crossed!
I am very very fond of my VFR, and wont let it go if i cant make a good deal out of it, so time will tell.

    Gorgeous bike.

Either we didn't get the black version here in Canada or very few of them. Mostly red ones which didn't appeal to me. Is yours the DCT version?
