  1. You can get OEM fog lights, but the lights themselves are $500 CAD plus you need to add huge mounts (which double as engine guards I think) as well for another $200 CAD.

I wonder is there are any other options from the perspective of installing brighter LEDs in the existing light fixtures. I'm sorry - but it's 2021 - come on Yamaha seriously? Being seen should be a massive (if not number one) priority when it comes to motorcycle safety.

My only question is does the screen mount the same as previous years?         if not, you'll have to wait for the after market to catch up.

It mounts the same as the previous GT models. I have my MRA Sport from my 2019 GT on the new bike and it fits and works fine - except that when the handle bars are at full turn, the new hand guards will hit the screen if it's in  the top most position. I have sent this info and pictures to MRA in Germany and they are working on a new version.

Okay, I took a quick look online, so I think I understand this.  it's a different setup, that's for sure.  It looks like the top two lights are the daytime running lights, and the adaptive cornering lights come on within them.

Underneath are two separate lights that are spaced apart like auxiliary lights, but they are the main driving lights.  The one on the left (when you are facing it) is a high beam, and the one on the right is a low beam.

Is this correct?  It's actually pretty creative.

That's correct - except in this picture, the light on the left that is illuminated is the low beam. High beam is the right side.

Here's picture of mine without the engine running - so you can see both sets of DRLs minus the headlight.

Explain what you mean by turning lights.  You already mentioned turn signals so you must mean something else.  Do you mean adaptive cornering lights?

Yeah, sorry - bad description. There are LEDs lights within the main running lights that act as cornering lights and come on when the bike is turned or leaned over a certain degree.

I find that if I intentionally sit up as straight as possible,  the problem goes away.  Other times, I just scoot back a bit and it's fine for awhile. Mind you I'm on a 2020, so I'm not sure if it's more accentuated now?

I had a 2019 GT and now the 2021 GT and unless you have a miniscule butt, there is very limited room to move back at all on the new seat compared to the previous model. It's not uncomfortable per se - but it did take a bit to get used to.

  6. Good feedback @Jayzonk

    a) It wasn't me - although I'm not too far from you 🙂

    b) While more is often better when it comes to lighting/visibility on a bike - I wondered if the single headlight (low beam) plus the LED DRL plus turning lights plus the LED turn signals which also function as DRL would appear quite visible to oncoming or vehicles waiting to turn in front.

    Hmm...

Motorcycle seats are ridiculously expensive I fully agree. IMO the bike manufactures could easily tweek what they put on their bikes and provide acceptable comfort for a huge percentage of their buyers. Bet there are lots of us who have tried different items to improve riding comfort. But(t) when the hot spots flair up during a ride most of us will try anything! The most comfortable stock seat I ever had was on my KLR650, all day comfortable for me on many week long + trips. The least comfortable is the stocker on my new 2020 Yamaha Tracer 900GT. The fool who designed that stupid silver thing affixed to the front of the pillion seat deserves some sort of punishment 😬.

To each his own. I splurged on what I knew would solve my discomfort problem because cheaper options were all on back order. While I intend to keep riding as long as I can, at my age I won't waste a day of valuable riding time waiting on "we'll advise when this item becomes available" from seat comfort vendors affected by the business shut/slowdown due to the Covid issue.

Anyway Ride365, sounds like your arse is happy, mine is happy! Let's keep riding safely and ENJOY!!

Could it be that to make them really comfortable, the seats wouldn't look as sleek and "sexy"? Eg. more padding etc. (keep it clean boys & girls!) . Some of the really top end custom seats which I'm sure are super comfy tend to look bloated etc.

    Just ruminating out loud.

Finally got to do a test ride on the Tracer9 GT yesterday. Great fun, but boy did I find that seat uncomfortable. Would welcome any comments from anyone who has spend time sat on it. Admittedly, it was at the lower setting, and the dealer couldn't work out how to lift the seat before I had to leave (!), but I am wondering if the comfort seat would be a better bet?

It might be a deal breaker..I will keeping my existing bike and put the money elsewhere.

    Phil

My dealer went through everything with me at pickup - even though coming from a 2019 GT and having been reading and researching the new Tracer 9 for months I knew most of what he showed me - the new seat "spacer" thing would have fooled me.

I too find the seat on the T9 to be meh. I had no issues with the stock seat on my 2019 - but this one isn't great. The covering material doesn't allow you to move around as easily (which I'm sure some people like) and it definitely sits you more forward. I didn't feel the need for tank grips on my 2019, but will likely get them for this bike.

I ordered the comfort/touring seats for my bike - which I thought were very reasonably priced. The rear is available but the rider/front is backordered until end of June - same as the side cases so hopefully I can get them at the same time.

  9. Yamaha released a 2018 Tracer 900 prior to the 2019 and 2019 GT models.

I actually bought my 2019 GT in August 2018. So the 2018 Tracer was available for a fairly short period of time but they did exist - I sat on one at the Toronto bike show that year and asked the sales person when the GT was coming out. 😊

What do you think of the gauges now in real life? Is it that obvious that they look like a pair if cartoonish glasses?

They look great. The data is crammed in there though. I want to play around with the screen brightness.

It adds character to the bike, imho.

The new CP3 motor is listed as having a slightly heavier crankshaft for more rotating mass (smoother/tractable), like the Niken.  I test rode the Niken and immediately noticed (and enjoyed) the smoother power delivery, though it in no way diminished its 'sportiness'.

    Exactly - smoother power delivery.

You do realize being the first to report actually owning one that you are now the popular kid on the block and will probably get flooded with dozens of questions, my first being; fueling, how does the throttle response and on/off 'snatchiness' feel compared to the previous bike?

I rode home in engine mode "2" which is akin to the old "Standard" mode on my 2019 GT.

I'd say it's smoother than the previous model - not snatchy - just need to make sure you give it enough throttle. Once moving, the response is immediate and very linear/smooth.

I didn't switch it to mode "1" as I didn't want to fuss with it while riding - the dash contains a lot of info - need to get used to where everything is located still.

New REAL review! Also in that new camo color. Looks great!

Interesting - his comments about the throttle response - sounds familiar. Looks like ECU re-mapping may be a thing for the new bikes too. Not really a surprise though.

I do wonder about the cornering lights. It doesn't seem to take much of a lean to make them come on - so lets' hope that isn't confusing to oncoming vehicles who think you are either flashing your headlights or such to them.

Thanks for posting - that triple sounds awesome!
