I've had mine 3+ weeks now and this is the first bike I dont think needs a change. Geared perfectly.

FZ-07, 250 Nighthawk, CBR1100XX, XR650L, all went +1 on the front sprocket almost immediately.

    Fully agreed.

I came to the Tracer from a 2017 Ninja 1000 and as much as I loved that bike, the gearing was too short - I was always looking for 7th, whereas on the Tracer I rarely get out of 3rd or 4th.

I received my new hugger yesterday and it is the earlier version dated 5/12/2020 without the brackets. I emailed Pyramid right away. They replied this morning and said it was no problem to send me the updated fitting kit. They were also courteous enough to make me aware that i will have to drill 2 extra holes in the hugger. Great customer service!

I received my brackets in the mail yesterday.

I just saw this thread after i ordered a 072447M hugger from Motorcycle Parts Warehouse in the UK a couple days ago. I wonder what the chances are that i will get an early or later improved hugger. I guess i'll find out when it arrives.

According to Pyramid Plastics, it's the same hugger, just with an extra bracket or two to support it better.

I bought mine last year and they are sending me the brackets free-of-charge, so if you don't get them, I would contact them and let them know and I'm sure they'll make it right. I find them to be very responsive via FB Messenger.

That is a very confusing article as the changes that they said were "new for 2021" happened a few years ago.  And I'm not sure what the following statements mean...??? 🤷‍♀️

    - "In March 2020 New Yamaha MT 09 2021 gains more German influence and is sold in EU USA dealerships with a new face."

    - "The New Yamaha MT 09 2021 price has been readjusted starting March 2019"

It reads like it was translated from another language into English. This time of year there is always a lot of noise around new models - I think the spammers and scammers take advantage of that. They probably generate a lot of ad revenue this way while providing very little value.

If you do contact Pyramid with your problem please post up results or PM me as I considering the 072447M rear hugger once they have their rework done!

I contacted them and they will be shipping me the two new brackets that support the hugger. The hugger itself hasn't changed. Honestly, this is why I support these companies. I'm sure you can find a knock-off version on Ali Express or whatever, but you wouldn't get this kind of customer service or attention to detail when making things right.

It was funny as I went back to the message I sent them almost exactly a year ago where I had asked them about fastening the hugger down and being afraid of it cracking!

I will for sure - since I've hijacked this thread, I will contact you via PM.

    Thanks

That is the stock replacement for the original hugger. The piece I put on was the extension on the original hugger. Totally different.

Probably my bad - I mentioned that I have the full hugger replacement from PP.  Sorry for the thread hi-jack!

The Pyramid 072447M rear hugger is a replacement for the OEM that extends the length of the original hugger by 6 inches (152mm).  The 072446 hugger extension is 5 inches (130mm) longer.

So the 072447M rear hugger replacement offers more protection.

I have the hugger replacement - I did have some fitment issues - to  the point where I removed it temporarily.

@dpippin - when was this? I might reach out to PP and ask them about the "new" version.

    Thanks

  9. I bought the actual replacement hugger from Pyramid and like it. It definitely offered more protection from spray than the stock one. It's a lot more $ than the extender and in hindsight maybe I should have gone that route. I have the front fender extender but haven't installed it yet.

PP is a great company to deal with - as are most of the other UK-based companies I have dealt with - EvoTech and Speedo Angels to name a few. Worth the extra $ to get the real deal imo. Not interested in the rip-off copies that you can find elsewhere.

I have always avoided engine/frame crash bars on road bikes as they can create vibration problems. I have them on my KLR650 (Sw-Motech) and they did change the vibration level on the bike. On the GT I went with the over priced Yamaha guards and R&G case engine case cover set. More than enough protection for a bike that stays on the road.

I had a set of frame sliders (crash bungs in the UK) on my ZX14 when I went down on a low side after a kind gentleman decided to do a u-turn in front of me. The slider snapped off and therefore wrote the bike off because it compromised the frame (they attached to the engine mount). These were high-end Spiegler sliders from Germany. Since then I have wary of this type of protection.

@roadrash83 any chance you can post up a pic or two of the Yamaha frame protectors what they look like on the bike? They sure are pricey at over $300 CAD!

    Cheers,

That pic in Death Valley (I think) of the very straight rd, that goes on for miles, is like what I was riding on the Silo Run.

One leg on Saturday was 303 Klm of very few bends, and no corners to speak of, and all at 160+ kph.

Wow...300kms @160+kmph - I'd be exhausted riding at those speeds for that long.

Gore-tex gear is where it's at. Jacket, Pants, Boots, gloves... all of it. It's worth every penny. Gore-tex gear is breathable, keeps you dry, and I've never had any leaking issues with gore-tex, save one. My last pants (KLIM badlands pro) were gore-tex, and where the water pools at your crotch area in a deluge, it would sometimes soak through the seams in the pants; not a failure of the fabric, but of the seams. this only happened twice, both times stuck in torrential downpour for over two hours in stop and go traffic.

I've tried the other ways of protecting from water, and each has issues.

    • Water proof liners work (i rode with a kit that had liners for two years), but the outerwear gets SOAKED, and it's like riding in a trash bag when the liners are in. You're dry... but sweat stays in and soaks your undergarments, making you colder. You don't want to wear the liners all the time for the same reason - so you only put them in when it's actually raining - which sometimes meant changing into the liners on the side of the road at the first sign of rain. no bueno.
    • Drystar (as a fabric) has the benefit of no liners, but has the same garbage bag feeling. I rode with a Drystar jacket and pants for 2 monts, and it was the most miserable 2 months of my riding career.

The only Drystar gear I have is a jacket that I bought for a really good price that I wear during early spring/late fall rides as I know it get super-warm.

Alpinestars air plus V2 XCR Gore-Tex

I'm a year round, all weather commuter.  My feet absolutely have to breath. These breath plenty enough for Central Texas Summers and are warm enough for the winter. I have not had any issues with them leaking at all. Extremely happy with them. Highly recommended if you're like me and have to have something breathable.

Seriously looking at a pair of these.

How did you find the find @nicksta43?

All of my riding boots (Sidi, Puma) are 43. I normally wear a size 9 shoe/boot. I ordered a pair of TCX boots in the spring and the 43 was too big - needed a 42.

    Thanks

And it looks like you got the good out of that rear tire for sure. Good Job! Best to do it on a ride by yourself. Don't want to be at a meet and be "That Guy", LOL!

Heh...I know "that guy". On a week long tour with 4 others, one of my riding buddies decided that he didn't need a new tire after tracking his bike the previous season (this was all unbeknownst to us). We had just ridden the very excellent VT #17 and stopped for fuel and a snack at the station at the top of the mountain. As we stood there chatting and raving about how great the ride up had been, i noticed something "shiny" on my pals rear tire...sure enough, he was down to the cords. We were at least 2 hours from base camp. "Luckily" there was a Ducati dealership within 30 minutes ride and we were able to get him a new tire, but it ended up costing us 2 hours of riding in Vermont and sitting around waiting.I told him next time, he's getting left there and he can catch/meet up later.
