  1. Just curious, has anyone had the fuel pump apart? I mean not just taken from the tank, but disassembled the unit. I understand these pumps are the same on all 900 triples since 2015, part # 1RC-13907-00. I am looking at replacing the bottom plastic plate with the fuel line connection (a story I am not proud of).
  2. I too always ride with gps. My speedometer is showing about 8% higher and odometer 1.5% higher than gps. Interestingly, the fuel consumption meter is showing about 10% lower than actual calculated from between fillups and corresponding milleage.
  3. I wonder if someone would have a used, discarded, even not working fuel pump 1RC-13907-00, as long as the fuel line connection plate is OK. I managed to break off the connection piece when doing throttle bodies sync. Have it glued together now with JB-weld epoxy, doesn't seem to leak, but do not have much faith in it. I understand that the top connection plate can be removed/replaced.
  4. I had the same problem with my Garmin Oregon gps mounted in RAM holder on handlebars, left of the center. The gps was at about the same level as tft display. Either no or very low gps signal. I ended up mounting the ram holder just above the right hand side handlebars clamp. Full gps signal now.
  5. Same here. When I cannot throw my leg over the bike's seat, I just stick with my 2006 LTD. BTW, many people do not realize that Niken is not a trike, it will not stand on its own...
  6. The GT is a bike with limited fairing and rather small OEM screen so no wonder we are getting some noise and buffeting. Unless you are hidden behind a "barn door" type screen, you are never going to be in a bubble of still air. Another small screen of any brand or shape will hardly change things. I have installed the MRA Sport X-creen extension on the original screen and it is working fairly well. I am 5-10 and I have the screen now in the middle of adjustable range. It throws the air over my helmet and it is relatively quiet, except in cross winds. This is the second X-creen I installed, previously on Africa Twin, and both installs were improvement. I had many bikes with various sizes of fairing and screen including BMW RT and it has been my experience that an ideal screen is very elusive thing. As I said, unless you are behind a barn door the wind is always an issue.
  7. There is one lube they haven't tested and one that I consider best of all - the Dupont Teflon Chain Saver. Just Google it up... Unfortunately, there is a limited availability of it here in Canada.
  8. Can anyone post a picture where and how was the crankcase scratched? There seems to be quite a few bolt on protectors on AliExpress.
  9. Sorry, got mistaken, I actually purchased these footpegs from eBay. Just search for Yamaha Tracer footpegs, you will get dozens of options. They go from 25 to 40 mm length and they are adjustable, looks like the same design from all sources.
  10. My experience so far has been that to use QS under full throttle, you have to be over 5k, preferably 6k rpm. As I very seldom go over 5k, I learned to roll off a bit of the throttle when shifting. I got to a point that 90% of my quick shifts are pretty smooth.
  11. Purchased my GT 2 months ago and apart from 1300 kms on the clock (we are talking Canada here), managed to put few cheap farkles on: Rear hugger extender, cost zero, made from scrap of 2mm polyethylene sheet Front fender extender $5 from AliExpress Lowered rider pegs, about 2 cm down and 1 cm forward, $45 from Aliexpress MRA X-creen windshield extention, got lucky with this one from Amazon.ca for 1/3 of original price due to "damaged packaging".
  12. I would prefer simple temperature bar graph, then I probably wouldn't have to worry about exact reading. Reconfirmed again that mine is reading between 50 to 60 C when it is around 10 C outside and goes max to 70 C when outside temp is 15-17 C. This is low, but question is how accurate is the sensor and at what point does it measure the coolant fluid.
  13. That original accessory (cigarette lighter ) plug fuse is only 2A, will not take more than some 25W load, your compressor is probably double that. I put in there 5A fuse and using it with my 40W heated vest. BTW, this pig tail plug has 15A fuse on it so you can put close to 200W load on it.
  14. Here is another possible reason, happened to me. I got for few kms into a pretty strong crosswind and was leaning heavily to the right and the oil light came on. As soon as I was out of this crosswind, the light went off...
  15. Posted this topic by mistake in FJ Tracer forum, here is where I wanted it... I am wondering how do you guys like the quick shifter on the Tracer GT and how do you operate it. I am finding out that its function is rather rough and needs some practice to make it work smooth. The idea of shifting with it under full gas is, in my opinion, out of question, unless you want to ruin your gearbox in short time. In my experience, the only way to make it work smoothly is to kind of level out the RPMs so that you are not accelerating much, before shifting to higher gear. I still use clutch when shifting into 2nd and often when going to 6th. I am wondering as well if there is any adjustment on the QS rod, I do not see any moving part on it, so I am curious what kind of sensor is there...
  16. I am pleased to report that after first ~700 kms the trany whine is substantially reduced. Hope that with further mileage it will get even better if not completely eliminated.
  17. Just FYI, checked the transmission drawings in service manual and all gears appear to be straight cut...
  18. Checked the service manual - yes, the bike has thermostat. Looking from the front, it is to the left of the oil filter, a bit up. They call it 'thermostat assembly' and it doesn't seem to be designed to be taken apart. Manual just says check for damage, leaks... There is no procedure on checking the function/temperature of the thermostat, weird.
  19. Did my first ride on GT at temperatures 8 to 10 C. Engine temperature indicated around 60 C. That seem to me rather low, a car would have temp around 85 C. What are you guys seeing on your bikes?
  20. My take on this is that if the whine was chain/sprocket related, it would be the same at comparable speed, no matter what gear. That doesn't seem to be the case.
  21. Now that you mention it, there is some whine in 3rd, but much more in 6th. The straight cut gears could be the culprits...
  22. Yes, I normally do that, at 70 I am in 4th. I just wanted to indicate the range of whine in 6th...
  23. So it finally warmed up to +10C, sunny skies and in spite of snow along the roads, I couldn't wait any longer. Did my first 160 kms on my brand new GT. Engine and handling great, no need to elaborate, everything works as it should - almost. In 6th gear under throttle there is an audible whine, something like turbine, coming from what I assume is transmission. It starts around 70 km/h and disappears just before 120 km/h. It disappears as well on deceleration at any speed. It is not there in any other gear under any conditions. Any comments on that? Weird thing happened to my old faithful Garmin Oregon 300 GPS, I have been using it on different bikes for at least 10 years. Have it in RAM holder on handlebar, just left of the center, about half foot away from bike's display. Batteries charged, perfect signal. Start up the bike and ride away and signal disappears, says no sattelites. Reset the GPS, all fine, start riding, satellites gone. So I take the GPS off the holder, engine running and at distance over foot from bikes display it stars working again. There is clearly some interference coming from somewhere (speedometer display?) that is imobilizing the GPS. Will try some different location/position, but this is disappointing. Anyone experienced something like that?
