  1. Hey guys, everyone who sent me an order for one of the tools, they shipped today and should be do you on Tue or Wed it seems. I am doing a final packing to head out for a 7-8 days on the bike around the southwest on Monday, when I get back I will be working on getting a website up to actually formalize the sales process for these
  2. Awesome! and I saw your "make" on thingiverse, and I purposely designed the slot for the comp/rebound to be a tight fit, so it stays on when you take your hand off. I do dig that oil filter wrenchI may need to print one of those myself.
  3. Yup, PLA+ is probably fine for a lot of places like jacket pockets, and such. I would be hesitant to keep it under the seat on hot days, it wont melt completely but could be soft enough to distort when you try to use it.
  4. Hey guys, So I printed a handful of these in Glass reinforced engineering grade blue Nylon - Should be super durable and temperature stable even in the hottest weather. And its blue to stand out if you do drop it. Since I don't have a website up yet to sell these, I figure I will put these 5 up for sale here if anyone wants them. I can ship them this week anywhere in the US for $9 each if you are interested. DM me. Pic of them - they are printed pretty coarse to be stronger, they fit the shocks like a glove.

  6. pics of my final installation and the design iteration of the mount from last night to this morning
  7. I figure its a niche solution for my bike, but if anyone wants it I can share it as well.
  8. I had the file open so I just added a hole quick and uploaded it, there should be 2 files now on Thingiverse (the CDN/Caching they use is VERY slow to update, so it may take a few hours for the changes to show up).
  9. I can easily put a hole in it for a lanyard, but you are NOT supposed to leave this on the forks when riding. Just put it in your pocket, or under your seat. I didn't put a lanyard loop in it just cause I didn't think it was needed, but I can see it falling into the chassis if you weren't careful. I posted one with the hole in it on Thingiverse for ya!
  10. I just picked one of these up, I have new tires being installed in the next week and am having HawksHead T valves installed as part of that. Kinda excited to have TPMS on the bike. I also designed/printed a small hood and flat back so I can put some automotive Velcro on it and attach the display to a small velcro pad I have on my bars. Makes it easy to remove overnight, or when I dont need it. Also gives some sun shade/minor rain protection. (note this is not the final filament, it was a test print, the final will look like the black plastic under my phone mount. )
  11. This part should cost a couple bucks in material at the most for run of the mill PETG or PLA+ (higher temp PLA)
  12. Hey everyone, I got this uploaded to Thingiverse! Feel free to download and give it a print, I put notes on the print settings and such I recommend. Yamaha Tracer 900GT Front Fork Hand Adjustment Tool by clegg78 - Thingiverse I designed a small hand tool that is light, compact, and easily...
  13. Yep, I am realllllllly lazy about getting a website going... I have it partially designed, but the interest in sitting in front of my PC any more than I do right now is slowing things down right now My goal is to get my 3D printing site with all the small tools/gizmos I've designed for motorcycles, photography, backpacking, etc... up and listed by sometime in October. Once I want to stay inside more. jk3d.us is going to be the domain (currently it redirects to my personal blog).
  14. Yup, that is what my goal was, something light, rounded, and wont mar the top of the shock (if you use the included wrench, or pliers it tears up that aluminum!)
  15. Nice! Yeah I picked up one of these as well (the C3 bars wont work on the Neotec II that I have, but this one below does) : Lidlox Helmet Extenders, Pair. | The Worlds Slickest Helmet Locks Lidlox Grip tip helmet lock helmet extenders. Very similar concept and it works, but is still a little cumbersome. I had a design I was working on that would use an extra key barrel I have for the Yamaha keyed to the ignition that I could lock one part of the strap in (I was working on the ratchet side) but never got it completed. Its going to be a winter project
  16. Thanks! I am trying to refine my tool setup for riding and being able to design my own tools helps I have a few more things I am planning on designing for my trip coming up. One thing I want to really figure out is a better helmet lock system for my Neotec 2... the ratchet style helmet straps really threw me off on how to handle that effectively. Yep, I will get it posted once Thingiverse gets back online... seems like its still broken today.
  17. Hey guys, So I designed a small tool to adjust the front suspension on the GT, I am not sure if the non GT bikes have the same front shock adjustment design/sizes so I am posting it in here. I designed a small 44mm round disk that has a hex on one side for preload, and a slot on the other side to adjust compression/rebound. Its small and light and seems to work well even 3D printed in PLA as a prototype (but if you carry it on the bike I would assume PETG/ABS/Nylon would be the material you should use for heat stability, I will be printing mine in Glass loaded Nylon). This lets you tweak preload by hand without much issue on the road, and easily adjust the other settings without getting a screw driver out. This a tool people want? . Took me like 30 min to design it and I am happy to share it. Update: Here is the link to the download on Thingiverse! Download and print away! 18. Already been down there! I love that area on the bike, and driving down that way. Winslow is just close to Meteor Crater and the Petrified Forest NP which are 2 things I wanted to check out, Winslow itself is FAR from a destination I thought I would head toward for any other reason I would go to Camp Verde/Jerome/Prescott again if it wasn't a pandemic. But I agree, that area is legit awesome, 89A is a fantastic highway!
  19. Yeah about the camera! So I spent a long time trying to refine my GoPro game (and check out the other videos, the one going to Jerome AZ, and the One going around Grand Mesa are my favorite ones I've put together - the grand mesa one from 2015 specifically) I wrote up a few posts about hard wiring gopros on the bike, it really evolved over the years, and even involved me soldering up some controls/power to a camera in a hotel room on one of the trips! My Tracer, I have an Innovv K2 setup installed which is a dashcam style DVR with 2 cameras that record all the time while riding. Makes it a little less nuanced in terms of being able to turn the recording on and off when it makes sense, but works all the time. And the video quality/bitrate is higher than my GoPro Hero2's were. (which I still have but no use for right now). The latest iteration of what I used on my last bike: (I actually have this setup complete with the switch wiring harness, camera, case, etc... just sitting in a box). 20. This is a great thread! I was about to pull the trigger on a set of Road 5's (I've had Pilot Road 2, 3, and 5's on my past bike), but I wanted one that wouldn't fling gravel quite as violently as the Road 5's seemed to, and try something else. Ended up ordering a set of Pirelli Scorpion II Trails. Looking forward to trying them out. I am heading out for a week long ride that takes me over some areas that are now calling for potential snow/cold rain when I am there... so.. I didnt want to mess with the 2000mi worn stock D222's on those roads. One comment I have is I read "I got XX,XXX" miles on a tire and it is great vs "I got X,XXX" on a tire and I hate how short of a life it had... is I would almost always pick the shorter life tire... faster wear on a modern motorcycle tire generally means more grip. And in general tires for motorcycles are pretty cheap overall. Wanted to say thanks for the info on this thread!
  21. Yeah! I've had the same where people look at me like I am insane. Some of the best rides I've had have been in just epic downpours over mountain passes. I would take rain and cold over baking 110F riding in northern AZ any day
  22. Hey everyone, I posted a blog post about a trip I am doing coming up in a couple weeks around CO, NM and AZ. Not a big trip but about 2000mi, over 7 days. I am located in Denver, and am going to ride down to Winslow, AZ to check out Meteor Crater, and the Petrified Forest, then over to Los Alamos, NM (some fun roads it looks like to get there off the main freeway), then back up around CO for a bit. I've ridden all over UT/AZ/CO in the past but its been about 5 years and this will be my first long ride on the Tracer since I got it last year (besides the purchase of it flying into SLC and riding it to Denver the next day which was 600mi. Left the dealer with "0" miles on the Odo, got it home with like 625, it was nice to get the majority of the engine break-in done just on the ride home!). Seems like there is a call for some snow in the coming weeks around the higher elevations, so I just ordered some Pirelli Scorpion Trail II's to swap onto the bike before the trip as I've read the D222s are less than awesome in cold/wet weather. And I personally love riding in the rain/cold weather! Any tips around Northern NM/Winslow AZ for things I should check out... being a pandemic year I am not going in or doing a whole lot other than seeing what I can that is outside. My blog post and trip details and planning is here: Motorcycle Trip – Pandemic Edition – Interwebs of Joe Well, 2020 is what it is… it conclusively sucks. Camping is a crap...
  23. So does the Ohlins rear shock (STX46) fit the 2019+ Tracer? I see it listed up to the 2018 model of the MT-09/tracer but not for the 2019. I know there was a swingarm change for the 2019, did it change the shock length?
  24. I went to the Racetech site to get an idea of recommended values. They have a spring rate calculator for specific bikes: https://www.racetech.com/ProductSearch/12/Yamaha/Tracer 900/2019 Mine came to ~12.5 for the rate (vs 10.0 which is stock on the GT) But I emailed Norwest as cited above - I trust Terry there with my suspension as he really helped me in the past on other bikes. And I am going to let him give me some guidance on what I should do. I am going to do a long touring ride loaded up in a few weeks and going to see if I can get the stock suspension comfortable with the load on that trip and then tweak from there with Terry.
