  1. I took mine out for a ride and got an inspection sticker! 55 degrees. Now to figure out how to get all the road salt off her.
  2. B Mode is great for slipping up a muddy dirt road with TCS off. (Or a lawn job, if you are a hooligan.) I have no idea the MPGs I'd get in B Mode as I never use it that long. My ECU is a 2WDW set up with STD still as default so it looks "normal" on the HUD. A Mode is preferred and I go into it once the water temp is higher than Low on the HUD. Averaging 45.9 with mixed road type driving. Only gripe with the bike is that I haven't put on a cruise control - right hand gets buzzy after 150 miles or so.
  3. I use A rag covered with WD-40 for the heavy crap, rinse with water and then spray with S-100 cleaner, let it sit 5 minutes and hose her off. Do not put S100 on anything hot, or forget to rinse it off.
  4. Geez, the ones on my Akrapovic titanium are purple, fading to gold.
  5. I put mine on with the adhesive and four aluminum pop rivets with backer plates and they stay put. Finish the job with a Q-tip and a little flat black paint. Aside from that, how'd she swim?
  6. Ordered the new clutch cable. (2PP-26335-02-00/$22.19) Parts for CCT recall in. Will change fluids (brake, coolant, oil) all at same time. Might be bikeless for a day, but it will be well worth it as I take long rides.
  7. Trambo, where were you riding? I was out by Culpepper... Yep, 75F was the highest I saw on the HUD. But that was at a light in traffic. Front brakes, even with ABS and stock pucks, will let you do front wheel stoppies when some idiot deprives you of right o' way using right o' weight. Guy pulled into and then back out of a gas station on 522 without looking - lots of quick action. Tempted to use hand signals instead of the horn afterwards.
  8. Installed PIAA 530 Led driving lights at the top fender bolts. Had to run the power harness from battery to front of bike - only fits one way - under gas tank along frame on either side. Big hands, small spaces and cold in my garage on Friday, so the job was laced with expletives. Saturday was spent drywalling a buddy's garage, SO: I rode it today for over 200 miles in the Shenandoahs. Got home, checked light mounts for movement (none -Loctite!) and adjusted beam height.
  9. PIAA now makes a light kit for the FJ 09! Just ordered these LEDs - will let you know how they work once installed. http://www.piaa.com/store/p/901-Yamaha-LP530-LED-Driving-Light-Kit.aspx
  10. Removed tinted film headlight covers and got my state inspection sticker. Probably have to park it for a few days for snow/crappy weather.
  11. Did another wet tire test on the PR4's with a ride in light rain. The day cleared up so I kept riding. Got back and lubed the chain & cables and put Sta-Bil in the tank, just in case the weather gets lousy.
  12. Suncoaster, I'm in NOVA, US and thanks for the link. There is a link for a beak that works with the fog lights - would rather get the fog lights first. Assuming that's a link for Australia. Yamaha Canada will not ship to the US, and US dealers don't have the part.
  13. I have been thinking about beaking as the Yamaha fog light kit is only available in UK/CAN...
  14. "Good call Bobdog, I took the Luray-Warrenton roads this weekend too, except I was in the car, not the bike, and thought the same thing, great roads! Saw a bunch of bikes, especially ADV and Sport Touring, no FJ's though I would have obviously noticed!" THAT'S BECAUSE MINE'S THE FASTER STEALTH GREY...
  15. A quick fun loop for you guys in NOVA - Rode out to Front Royal, linked up with a buddy there (Custom HD 103 Police Special) then went to Exit 13, and added a rider (Triumph 1050 triple) to the group. ROUTE: Head for the BRP, but stay to the right and take 340 to 675/678 down to Luray - Lunch - Back out 211 east from Luray to Warrenton, then reenter suburbia and take 15/29 north to 66. This cut my time on 66. There's paving work on 211 on the east side of the ridge, so you may have to wait 10 minutes or so. Fun ride - lots of twisties and long sweepers. Didn't check the odometer trambo, but I think 225 round trip from right near 495.
  16. joyrider, get in touch with pattonme!
  17. Got back from a 1300+ mile long pilgrimage to the Dragon's Tail and Cherohala Skyway. Stayed at Hunt's on Thursday Night. Bristol TN/VA on Friday night to watch the cars and bikes cruizing on State Street.
  18. Okay Virginia riders - leaving from Front Royal at 10 am tomorrow to run the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway and hang out at Hunt's. Currently riding with one other biker on a stage 2 103 Police HD.
  19. Whoo hoo! Replaced both tires at 4800 miles. Rear bald, front cupping. New set of Michelin Pilot Road 4's ought to get it. Heading down to run the Dragon.
  20. I would have them tapped/threaded oversize and put in new steel thread inserts. They are called Heli-Coils. Dealer can do them.
  21. trambo, Those lights look great - how tough was the switch - what year Tenere? Did you do the rear ones, too?
  22. Took my bike to pattonme's (AKA Forks by Matt) place and he put in 0.95 fork springs, and made the dead leg live for damping & rebound. Also installed a YA335 Ohlins with a 115Nmm spring. Matt even set the sag before I rode off. It's like a new bike! Diving under braking is gone, freeway seams not so rough any more and the bike feels planted in corners - even bumpy ones. I will take it out on my favorite twisties very soon to do the last bit of tuning - but his set up for my weight is just about perfect! Really happy with what he did for the bike. AND his prices are very competitive and he seems to be able to get rear shocks in 24 hours.
