pieyed07
When you get into Alaska keep an eye out for frost heaves. They are Alaska speed bumps and they can break things. They might not be too much of a problem in this day and time but in 1979 they were and the Alcan was dirt and gravel. you might want to get you a flat fixing kit and a can of WD40 to spray down the bikes when you get to the dirty parts, or you will have lots of Alaska mud for a souvenir. Good Luck. JD

nsmiller
FJ-09 has an RG fender extender on the front thanks to FZ1Rider's recommendation. We'll also be carrying new chain and sprockets in case they are needed, but the current chain seems good to me at 10,500 miles so I decided not to touch it before leaving. I'll have an fender extender for the FJR to throw on last minute if the UPS man ever decides to show up.

nsmiller
Day 2 was Lander, WY to Lethbridge, Alberta via Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Start of day 3 involves having chain replaced with spare we're carrying at Iron Cycle in Lethbridge. Chain developed a loose spot. Glad FZ1 rider cautioned to bring a spare chain. What mileage have others replaced stock chain? Ours is at 12,400 miles. Problems started about 11,500.
