Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted April 4, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted April 4, 2017 I made one similar but now, for $24 and using the 1" spacers from the Givi barn Door, I settled on this for hot weather. For up to 80 degrees the Givi barn door with MRW spoiler does well if still a bit noisy.
fredogauvino
Hello All ! The snow finally melted here in Quebec, Canada, but it rains all the time. So lately, I had plenty of time to think about building another Shorty Windscreen... - A better one. - The best one. - The Ultimate ONE ! In 2015, I builded 3 windscreens based on the width of the stock wind screen. They were all better than the awful original Yamaha one, since that you got clean air on the helmet. But you had very little torso protection. The FJ09 was a naked touring bike. This time I went with another approach. Why not build a windscreen that is as wide as handguards allows, and short enough to give you clean air on the helmet and some protection for the torso. So I started by building several models using very cheap coroplast material. I ended up choosing this model. I then bought some smoked plastic, and using a home made hot-wire plastic cutter, I managed to cut the shape. After some edges sanding, drilling, flame polishing of the edges, I finally made a cool one : And the verdict is : IT STILL RAINS ALL THE TIME ! But I managed to make a very short trip to test the final results, and overall, I am pleased with it. I get a clean air flow on the helmet, and better protection on the chest, and espacially shoulders. It is no way a touring screen, but a lot nicer that the previous one. So to me, it is the ultimate shorty windscreen ! Tell me what you think, and No, I am not making another one to sell.
