Supporting Member texscottyd Posted September 7, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted September 7, 2020 The new Triumph Speed Twin really caught my eye, and I was wondering if anyone here has some experience with them. I had missed the details of the launch in 2019, but it appears to have the 1200 Thruxton motor, but in a lighter & more comfortable package. I rode a Thruxton several years ago, and while I loved the motor, the bike just didn’t fit me correctly. This looks like a potentially better ergonomic package, and I personally think it’s a beautiful motorcycle. Just curious, mostly. But if the opportunity arises I will definitely go and test ride one. Supporting Member Popular Post texscottyd Posted July 17, 2022 Author Supporting Member Popular Post Share Posted July 17, 2022 After almost two years, I can reply to my own question: Yes, I have ridden a Triumph Speed Twin! And I liked it so much, I bought one… 😀 The 2022 models finally brought a few upgrades I wanted (320mm Brembo brakes & inverted forks, primarily), so I decided to start looking seriously. I scored a reasonable deal on a new one at a dealer in Temple, Texas (about three hours away), so I picked it up yesterday and rode it home… 225 ‘getting to know you’ break-in miles. My initial impression: It’s going to be a spectacular motorcycle. Ergonomics are great… typical sport standard layout, and it’s just big enough that it fits me fine at 6’1”. The fit & finish is gorgeous. And that motor… Jesus, that motor! I'm trying to be at least somewhat respectful of break-in rpm recommendations, but I can tell it has A LOT of motor... gobs of torque. I got rained on for part of the trip yesterday, so today it got its first bath. I feel like this is the beginning of a great relationship… 6 6

That’s the torque vectoring compensator for the crown of the highway in England, where they still ride on the opposite side of the road… I read that on an Internet forum, so it must be true. 🙄

Looks like the Kaw z900rs but no monoshock rear suspension.
Supporting Member texscottyd Posted July 28, 2022 Author Supporting Member Share Posted July 28, 2022 Well, it didn’t take long for boxes of machined billet pieces to start arriving. Evotech fender eliminator & radiator guard; factory Triumph swingarm spools. No major aftermarket purchases yet, but I’m already browsing for suspension and exhaust options. The Triumph factory accessories catalog should literally have a XXX rating. They understand how to sell accessories, just like Ducati and Harley… this stuff is packaged and presented like fine jewelry. 😀 1
kilo3
Just be warned, buy the OEM+ bits now because they go NLA 3-4 years out.

Valid point, but I’ve kept a first year Mille R on the road for 22 years… parts availability doesn’t scare me. 😀 4
kilo3
No I mean like cool/weird one off accessories specific to the bike. They don't last long and they don't seem to make anymore after the initial run.

Yes, the accessories are there to promote the model launch, but do tend to disappear quickly. I’m planning accordingly for the items that I really want.
