At MotoAmerica today talked with NGK representative.  They said reason for recommended interval is due to stress on upstream components not so much the plugs ability to fire.  Apparently as the plug ages it’s resistance goes up which puts more stress on the electrical components leading to the plug.  My take away is the coils will last longer if plugs are replaced on schedule.

As I said earlier I still think my interval is reasonable due to the type of use my plugs have.

My 2015 has 110k+ miles on the clock and still runs as good as new. I change the plugs around 24k miles. Honestly, I think they could go quite a bit longer than that.

It's probably worth nothing that many of us with 2015 FJs had misaligned fairings too. There are probably still old threads about this topic on the forum somewhere. It looks like the handlebar is turned very slightly when you're riding in a straight line, but it's actually the fairing that's off center. Mine is still that way but I got over it a long time ago. Of course, my FJ was a <$10k bike, not $20k. 😎

Ha. That’s probably what’s going on with mine. It’s off just a hair. Oh well, she’s went down the road just fine for more than 100k. I’m sure she’ll do fine for at least 100k more.

If I was doing more commuting and less trips, I could have nursed them at least a few hundred more miles, but not thousands. I'm more surprised that the rear RS3 lasted longer than the front.

I'm generally happy with 8k-9k. 5k would have been short on sport tires on my Ninja. No idea why it last such little time.

I don’t commute much. Most days that I get to ride are between 4 and 700 miles. I do at least 2 cross country trips (4k+Each) a year. I’m

New front tire. Last one was down to the wear bars, about the same tread depth I always replace at. Lasted much less time. Reattempting the 1000 mile weekend cut short last month.

    OE - 8600 mi

    Roadsmart 2 - 9600 mi, 9000 mi

    Last Roadsmart 3 - just 5000 mi

I got 6400 miles from a rear Roadsmart 3 a couple of years ago. Last tire was over the winter so it wasn't a heat thing. I did have new, stiffer springs installed in the fork.

I'm surprised that the tire lasted so much less mileage.

Cycle Gear had a Qualifier Q3+ in stock and it was convenient to get the tire changed (nearest shop that can change tires is over 45 minutes away), so I got it. I'm expecting sportbike mileage from the sportbike tire.

That’s strange. I’ve went through 4 sets of RS’3’s. Never got less than 12k miles out of them.
