The rear shock is driving me a bit annoyed... I have to pull the tank to get to top mount bolt, I could do it from the side if it was not for a MCruise connection right in front of the nut... sigh... I shall finish another day 😑...

BTW I'm loving my cordless impact wrench which was the highlight of my day...it barely even had to work to bust the bottom shock bolt nut and dog bone... it's a Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" impact wrench- little sucker got enough TQ to start a locomotive 😁...

I said eff it!!! Gotta trim the body work to fit the remote adjuster later...

@norcal616 which specific model is that? And i didn’t notice if yours is and FJ or Teacer (if it matters for this).  I have a Tracer

    https://stoltecmoto.com/shop/yamaha/fj-09/15-fj-09-penske-8983-double-clicker/

I have a 2015 FJ-09... takes about 1month for rear shock to be built... fork kit was shipped out next day IIRC...

Currently has a black Friday sale going- 10% off with free domestic shipping...

Proper shock, indeed!  Looks good. 👍

How did you get a red spring?  My buddy and I both have that same Penske shock, his from Stoltec and mine from Traxxion Dynamics and they both came with dark blue springs.

BTW, you are going to LOVE that shock, once it gets dialed in it is AMAZING!!

I dunno on the spring color?? Its made by Eibach... the spring color wouldn't have mattered to me as it was gonna be covered in the neoprene shock sleeve I have...

I'm almost done with the suspension upgrade... just got to install the rear shock and fill the forks and what not...then daydream till spring...

  5. The more ppl start painting the front side panels, the better chances Yamaha will stop these goofy color themes...

"""""Waves at Yamaha's "spy bots", yeah we know you pay attention to the forum and can the forum get sales commission(used to maintain forum)on all GT bikes sold???? we did turn the FJ's into GTs long before GT bikes existed 😁""""""

  6. Started the fork upgrade, but found out I forget a tool... gotta wait a few days for the "inverted fork tool" to get to the upper shim stack 😑... at least I got the bottom one done and got the new spring in the other fork...

In all honesty: it's not that difficult to do a DIY self kit...just remember to just break it loose the fork caps when still clamped in the triple tree...also crank the preload to max and flip the fork over to use a cordless impact to undo the bolt that holds the damper rod to the bottom of the fork...

I did it all myself, I used 2 ratchet straps and a 3/8 driver extension that was inserted in place of the axle to hook the ratchet straps to pull the spring compressor to unbolt the fork cap to replace the spring...

There are a couple of tabs that take a moment to line up, but, no, the panels don't fit perfectly.  Double check the tabs, but otherwise you're ok.  Tabs are behind the "air scoop" side panel.

Should look like this- might have to pull a few panels off and retry...almost looks like the headlight side cover is outta place or dig around a bit in that area- maybe some securing tabs are not pushed into rubber grommets or wires from heated gripes routed in a funny way...

@norcal616Have you had your bike on a Dyno?

I agree it takes quite a bit to pop the headers out but, I was just explaining why the springs are used there...,

No my bike has never been on a dyno, I don't have/see a need for it...

Only what the 2WDW shop bike put out on the dyno... the tune was built using Woolich... IIRC it was like 120whp/65tq... found a dyno graph for FTech... I went with Woolich software at the time since FTech didn't have a QS that works on both up/down shift and the price/value was hard to beat for the same price as FTech and with Woolich offering more features/goodies to play with, it won me over...

Nowadays I would go the Ftech ActiveTune route, which is like having a tuner ride with you 24/7 making realtime adjustments to the map to meet the values that were set...

The dyno tunes are only good as the dyno tuners experience/knowledge with that motor in my experience... some make good everyday riding maps, some make good race maps, etc... I'm not bashing any tuner in particular...

looks like they drilled holes evenly around the other points to remove metal there to match the tapped hole,

and then plugged the one across from the one the Allen screw is in to balance the screw  ??

least, that's what it looks like to me....

or maybe just lightening holes...maybe I'm mistaken.... ?

Your way over thinking it I believe with the balancing weight wise... keeping the overall look balanced, yes I can see the symmetry...

the gilles logo is on one, the lock screw is opposite of the logo and as for the "holes" and they way they cut out material around the "socket points" , it just looks nice to me, looks like a factory race part, they put some effort into the part... did they need to make it the way they did? No, but don't forget it adds .05HP/TQ 😅

  10. Enjoy the new bike, again😅... seriously these rules/regs Yamaha gotta follow mask the true power of these motors...

    Them headers are heavy eh??

BTW--The springs pull the header pipe into that exhaust port flange since they slip on to the header..the flange gets bolted to the exhaust port but it don't clamp/secure the header pipe from popping out, that's what the springs are for...

  11. Woolich Racing is also has an office/shop in QLD last I checked about 3yrs ago when talking to them about ECU flashing for the FJ-09... also Extreme Creations just north of Sydney may be able to help you... maybe KevTx(?) Can help out...

Mainly the ECU reflash removed the 114mph speed limiter, smoothed out the engine behavior, turned the decal injection back on( its OFF on OEM which gives the engine more engine braking feeling or touchy throttle to some ppl) lower fan temps to kick on earlier, set the default power mode selection you want, can disable closed loop fueling( aka eco mode) if software allows it, disable AIS(mainly it reduces the burble/popping with aftermarket exhaust).. you will lose a few MPG with the reflashed ECU as AFRs get a tad richer to smooth out the engine, the decel injection turned back on which will also reduce the engine braking/smooth out throttle...

A ECU reflash usually goes hand in hand with an aftermarket exhaust but it is still pretty beneficial if one is running stock exhaust...

Also there is products such as PowerCommander which is a "piggy back" solution( its maps run best on an ECU that still has the OEM ign/fuel values) or FTech Active Tune...

My ECU was flashed via 2WDW using Woolich Software... I even also further smoothed out the throttle by adjusting the Acceleration Position Sensor( APS sensor) which seems to be set at a value of "17" to a value of "13" which I could do at home thanks to having an early year bike which allowed the owner to see/test/adjust the various sensors via the dashboard...

  12. There will be a full rainbow of colors one day 😅 on the headers... Mine took like a good hard 5k miles...

I had mine tuned via 2WDW( used Woolich Software)...they used the shop bike which was a FZ-09 with Graves Exhaust...

I feel when using the 'baffle" the low rpm power feeling is much more noticeable than running w/o baffle... running w/o baffle has a better midnight-redline power feeling than running with baffle..nice bonus is the same tune is good for with or without the baffle...

Psst!!! I see missing header springs 🧐

for those of youse who like having a sparkling cleanish rear shock- I recommend this.. IIRC it's for a 450cc sized dirt bike rear shock, it was something I won in a raffle...its been on since day 1 and never been off till now...

10k miles later, OEM noodle looks a bit dusty but shiny/cleanish...15740864760928367972772973022653.thumb.jpg.b6076506820b28ac78285d2ca4af2657.jpg

It's a neoprene sleeve with velcro tape...the neoprene material is approx 3mm thick...the ends of the sleeve have a thick elastic band that pulls it tight around the shock mounting points..
