  1. What wind screen is this? Do you have a link? Im thinking of getting a "sport screen" and a "touring screen" and may have found the SPORT! I believe that is a Ermax sport screen in dark black - https://www.motomachines.com/ermax-sport-screen-windshield-35cm-for-yamaha-fj-09 It does look good doesn't it. I may end up trying this one out too... I have the touring version and a Cal-sci shorty but this looks better than the Calsci
  2. Match the plug up to the male end on the bike and note the wire colors. 1 (blue/white) -> 14 2 (blue/blue) -> 6 3 (black/white) -> 4 4 (red) -> 16
  3. Eh, I reckon he has a fair bit left on there. Here's a pick of mine after I changed them, I dug in to see how much was left until the cords... these carried me 13k miles. Still looked like a decent bit of rubber left in the middle How much psi you got in those tires? Maybe lower the pressure a bit I bet you can get many more miles out of those tires.
  4. I've never really worried about getting my bike inspected. It's only an issue if you get pulled over AND the cop knows to look for it.
  5. I wonder why they re-designed the shorty for the GT
  6. Fitted some new tires (Bridgestone T30-EVO's). I probably could have got another few thousand miles out of the stock tires but I had some free time and was itching a bit to get the new rubber on. Stock tires had nearly 14k miles and I really don't have any complaints. They lasted long and stuck well in the corners. They did seem to wear a little funny. One side was more worn than the other, I don't know if that is a road crown thing or what. Oh yeah, and the cupping but that seemed to sort itself out after I upgraded the suspension.
  7. 2015 FJ-09 bought new in June 2015. I am not very picky with maintenance.. Nice! Thanks for elaborating
  8. What year is your FJ? Please give us an idea of your riding style and maintenance intervals and stuff. It's nice to hear a positive story about valve clearances given all the horror stories we've heard lately about tight exhaust valves and ruined motors and such.
  9. While I do notice the hitchyness, it's my belief that it is just characteristic of the CP3 motor and some people are just more sensitive to it than others. My experience outside the yamaha triple is a Honda inline-4 (F4i) I had before and my friends Africa Twin (parallel twin) which from what I understand are very smooth motors. I've accepted that the CP3 triple is a quirky motor and you take the good with the bad (mostly good).
  10. I'm wondering if my issue could be due to rear sprocket unevenness. I got a new chain when the old chain got stiff and its slack changed as I rotated rear wheel, but I'm seeing the same slack change with the new chain and it's definitely related to the sprocket rotation not the chain section. It isn't much--a difference of 3/16" vertical travel in the middle of the bottom chain--but could that be causing some hitchiness? The hitchiness also goes away at a given rpm if I'm applying rear brakes while keeping throttle on, just like it does when I'm accelerating, indicating the engine or chain are ok if there's enough load. Interesting consideration. I too notice the hitchyness and I also have a slightly warped sprocket but never related the two.
  11. Well, you all suckered me into taking my windscreen off for my ride into work today. I feel like I got the ol' [/a] (and dress nice) trick I'll say this, under 60mph its great. No buffeting which is a huge gripe I have with the bike. A little more air on the body than I would like but the helmet air is great. But... if you plan on 80-90mph highway riding, forget about it! I very well might be sore tomorrow after that punishment haha. I was happy as a clam on the way to the highway. Once I hit the express lanes I knew I made a big mistake. After getting off the highway I looked down to make sure my shirt was still on I'll be taking the back roads home today and probably putting my Cal-sci shorty on and give that a week and see how it compares to my Ermax high screen which I've been using lately.
  12. So I've had that tool for many years now and I still question how to get the most accurate reading every time I use it. I don't like trying to sight down the rod because that always makes it look misaligned. I usually look down from the top and make sure the distance from the rod to the side of the chain is consistent the whole length of the rod. I wish it had a longer guide rod as I think that would help get an easier and more accurate reading. Regardless, it's still a great tool I'm glad I have.
  13. I'll throw my limited experience with risers out there, maybe it'll help you... I grabbed a set of 2" Rox risers off the forum here. The seller mentioned no changes to the stock cables were necessary but based on what I've read here I thought a few minor adjustments were probably required. It wasn't even close. I guess you could make it work by re-routing the cables but in my opinion they would be dangerously too tight. Not to mention you'd have to take the tank off to re-route the throttle (not a big deal but more work than I wanted to put into it at the time). As far as I'm concerned, aftermarket longer cables are absolutely necessary. I put them back in the box and said forget it. 1" risers might be do-able with stock cables. I might try again if I can find some 1" risers for cheap.
  14. Behold! THE coffee shop Next up: A picture with your bike and an animal larger than a dog (doesn't have to be alive or even real for that matter)
  15. Rules are only fun to break. Let's keep this casual. This in-between picture chatting is just playful banter, nothing more.
  16. tell that to someone in inner cities (rofl)
  17. That is kinda weird. My stock tread also goes in that direction. Never really questioned it but I see what you mean. The idea is that the tread is supposed to channel water away from the center of the tire. However, it seems that with this orientation it is actually doing the opposite.
  18. That's a heck of a trip. Do you just haul ass down 95 until NC or mix it up a bit more?
  19. Where does your trip begin? I'm hoping to make the journey myself sometime this summer. I'll start mine in northern VA and travel down Skyline drive/Blue ridge parkway ending at the dragon. Then I'll figure out my route home based on how much time I have left.
  20. How about that wind storm...
  21. What year do you have? Reason I ask is because on my 2017 just recently saw max 114mph @ 10k 4th gear. Strikes me as a little silly, a bike hitting speed limiter in 4th gear. Edit: just noticed in another thread you mentioned changing your front sprocket?
  22. Rode to work today. Little wet this morning but with the supposed 70 degrees today I couldn't resist. Anyone else?
  23. Ermax Belly Pan The build quality is top notch and the paint match to OEM factory colors is perfect. Is it plastic? If so I'd imagine one decent speed bump would rip it right off.
  24. I believe the joke is that he's using his hand to shield his eyes from the sun rather than use his backwards cap as intended to achieve this. I found it pretty funny.
