I found Iowa Hill Rd. out of Colfax. Great exploring ride. Some first gear switchbacks and a waterfall. Been two more times and no waterfall. After about 30 minutes of 25-30 mph the road opens up for a few miles to Foresthill Rd. Turned left one day and rode about 30 minutes until the rode was closed with 8' of snow. Turn right and you're 8 miles from Foresthill. Going again on Sunday with my son. His multi will be a good bike for the that road. Tried going down Ponderosa Rd. out of Weimar. Sierra Nevada Adventures listed the road and a picture of bikes crossing a wooden bridge. Pavement ends in 15-20 minutes. End of "county maintained road". GPS says 2.5 more miles. I keep going. Road/trail turns to crap pretty fast. Steep downhill, loose dirt and rocks. I guess you call it two track. I try and stop to maybe try and turn around and keep sliding a little. I was kind of puckered up. Thought for sure I was gonna dump it. Kind of tough going back up. No incidents. I thought I wanted to do that kind of riding, but on a different bike. Seemed easier when I was a kid on a dirt bike. Anyway, long story. Lots of good roads around here.
  2. I thought they looked familiar. @betoney uses them and talked about not being a direct fit. I see those in my future.
  3. What bike are those handguards from? How are they? I have the ktm ones. Better than oem but not great.
  4. Removed the hand guards and installed FZ-09 bar ends. I like the look and a lot less vibes. The dealer had one in stock and ordered one. A few days later, on the way to work, I rode to the dealer with one on and one missing. Took a ratchet and some loctite with me. Lots of vibes on one side (about the same as with hand guards) and a lot less vibes on the other side. I'm good til winter.
  5. 20k good miles on oem chain using wax. Replaced at 23k. Maybe 40k using gear oil? Ha!
  6. Thanks guys. No track. Commuting and weekend twisties. No passenger or bags. Just want to get it set and ride. Will double check sag.
  7. Installed Nitron shock yesterday then out for a test ride. Better than the oem shock I had rebuilt. Still harsh in town, but great on nice curvy roads. Nitron manual says - on the Rebound/Comprerssion. I'll try that today. Am I expecting too much from this suspension? Would like the shock to absorb road imperfections a little better. I've ridden a couple of bikes that soak up those kind of roads. They have 3 inches more travel though.
  8. Installed chain and sprockets on Saturday. Easier to do than expected. The Motion Pro tool is great. I also purchased a digital caliper to measure the width as I went along. Still waiting on the Nitron shock. Tired of waiting. Bike has been down for two weeks. Put everything back together and went for a ride yesterday. Low 70's here. Perfect.
  9. I purchased mine at cycle gear. Takes less than 5 minutes to install.
  10. I installed a pigtail directly to the battery that can be used to power a compressor, battery tender or accessories. I've used the cig lighter just for charging my phone.
  11. While waiting for parts and my new shock I removed the swingarm. Cleaned and greased everything. Removed the old shock. Weather is perfect for riding. Hopefully everything arrives before the weekend.

Wanted to head that way a few weeks ago, but still too much snow. Maybe another month or so.
  13. Ordered a shock from Nitron today. Also have chain and sprockets to install. Gonna take the swing arm off while I'm at it. Chain and sprockets should have been installed, but I hit a snag. While loosening the axle nut I didn't pay attention. The other side where it sits next to the chain adjuster thing backed out and turned a couple of times putting a nice groove where it should be 90 degrees. While waiting for those parts I just kept thinking about the suspension. May as well do it while it's all apart.
  14. Thought the same thing after the install and bike idling in the garage. Take it for a spin with the grips in that high setting. I've used high once for a few minutes. Too hot. Installed grip puppies over the weekend and had to turn up the settings a notch. Heated grips work great with the grip puppies.
  15. I have this one too. Installed but didn't have the mount for the phone until today. Taking it a step at a time to see/hear what works best. I have my own issues. I'll start another thread.
  16. My bars were rolled forward from the dealer. When I started tinkering I aligned the dot on the bars with the risers per the manual. When I got on the bike my mirrors were way off. So the dealer had the bars rolled forward. Same vibration either way. The risers can be turned 180 degrees depending if you want the bars forward or back. I thought about installing sorbothane somewhere between the risers and triple tree. By the time you torque it down I think the rubber wouldn't be effective. Not sure. On my son's multistrada you can push the bars up and they give a little. Some type of rubber in there somewhere. The shop manager at the dealer showed me that. He came from a harley dealer so he knew where to look. I think the vibration is normal for this bike. Still bugs me.
  17. Drives me bonkers too. My hands are asleep in 15 minutes. Wouldn't have thought too much about it had I not rode my son's bike. Zero vibration through the bars. Although after 20 minutes on his my hands started to numb. Not sure what's going on. Obviously a circulation issue. The buzzing still bothers me. I'll start with grip puppies and bar ends. Waiting for warmer weather to remove the handguards. Replacing chain and sprockets. That might help too.
  18. High 60's today. 200 mile ride here in norcal with fj and my son and his multi 950. Life is good.
  19. I'm due for a chain so I'll give this a try. Probably order grip puppies too. Also gonna ditch the handguards then I can get a nice set of bar ends.
  20. Just tried using a couple of different things on the upper bracket and the bars. No difference. Looks like I'll order a small sheet of sorbothane so I can cut to size. Gonna try on the top and bottom of the triple tree, or whatever that is that the bracket is bolted to.
  21. What do you all think of using sorbothane washers or a sheet of sorbothane somewhere on the handlebar brackets? On the Multistrada 950 the bars have some sort of rubber grommet or something to absorb the vibration. Our bikes are metal to metal. "isolate it" has a lot of different products.
  22. Front right side underneath the panel that has the blinker attached to it. You'll see two black plastic boxes. I think there's five fuses in each. Shop manual wasn't any help. Manual that came with the bike was helpful.
  23. Don't like what it spelled for me that day. One letter missing. lol!!
