  1. Hi ZigMerid Early adopters always pay the price of blazing the trail. I had one of the first GTs in the uk in 2018. First up, the Tracer GT is a fantastic bike and all the tests bore this out. However, magazine road tests rarely tell you the whole story such as the dreadful seat and screen. The quickshifter that is only useful between 4th, 5th and 6th gears- up only. My bike had to be returned to dealer because both front discs warped; a problem I’ve not seen since on this forum. They were changed under warranty. Fasteners rot before your eyes. Finally, there is no such thing as the perfect bike which we why we all like to tweak and, to borrow a phrase from our dear friend Wordsmith, “farkle” our bikes (when the wife’s not looking at the bills). So so my advice would be to jump in with both feet. You will end up spending more than you bargained for but you’ll not regret buying one of the biggest selling bikes in history.
  2. A bad day riding is better than a good day in the office.

  3. I had the Yamaha rack and 50L top box fitted by the dealer before I collected the bike. They work fine with the panniers. And there’s no issue at high speed.
  4. Thanks Cornersruns. I’m 6’0” and the good thing about the MRA is the (slightly) adjustable spoiler. Everyone has their own threshold on what type of airflow is acceptable. There’ll always be a bit of wind around the helmet regardless of what screen you use. My main beef with the OE screen was the buffeting. The MRA spoiler just slices through it.
  5. Hi Paulo, I use the MRA Vario screen with a spoiler. The standard screen is terrible; the MRA is great. It’s German made from aircraft grade plastic so it’s strong and doesn’t flap about like the original. I can’t recommend it enough.
  6. I replaced the D222 tyres with Metzeler Roadtec 01. They’ve made a massive difference with grip, comfort and feel. As usual, I follow the recommendations from the UK’s RIDE magazine. They test all major manufacturers’ products - often to destruction - to find the best. I can’t recommend them enough.
  7. I fixed Pyramid fender extender and hugger extender. I used the recommended glue that they trumpeted as fit for the job without needing rivets. Well guess what, hugger extender fell off after only a few weeks so I was forced to use the rivets. Thankfully it stayed in position because the forward motion of the wheel kept it in place when it detached itself. My view is to take the “belt and braces” approach and use glue as well as rivets.
  8. I’m with you Shizzle. My suspension was perfect without needing to change anything.
  9. Good luck with the new Tiger Michiel. I think you’ll find the build quality is superior to the Tracer GT.
  10. Hi All, I haven’t posted for a while. Re: cruise control - You can use the + and - buttons to accelerate and decelerate without touching the throttle; just press and hold the relevant button. And instead of rolling off the throttle or braking to deactivate it, you just press the central arming button again as it’s a toggle switch.
  11. Hi Doehle Welcome to the joy that is GT ownership. I can’t recommend enough the MRA Vario screen. I think you’ll agree that the stock screen is total pants and the MRA is light years ahead in terms of noise and comfort. I also fitted a Yamaha 50 litre top box with Yamaha rack. They don’t recommend this as the bike has a max payload of 179 kgs, but as I ride solo I don’t see it as a problem. As the panniers are only 22 litres each. I was glad of the topbox when I went to the Classic TT last year. The panniers alone would not have been enough; even for just one person. Which brings me to the seat... Please read all the posts on this as it’s a major bone of contention and there’s a lot to read on e subject. I’m still deliberating in which one to buy. But everyone is agreed that it needs replacing. I recently did a 200 mile day and my arse was on fire when I got home. cheers Paddy
  12. Hi clunkie66 I’m relatively new to the forum and just read your post. While the Tracer 900 GT has much to commend it, I have to mention that the bike has clearly been made to a price. Compared to its peers it’s incredible value but that is because there has been a lot of cost cutting. The worst is the finish. As a lifelong lover of Hondas this was my first Yamaha and I can’t believe how terrible the rot is that has beset the finish of major components. I’ve only ridden it in winter a few times and the salt on British roads is ultra-corrosive, but my Honda VTR1000 Firestorm which I owned for 17 years never succumbed like the GT. So please be diligent and continue to spray the bike with whatever corrosion inhibitors you can get your hands on. It’s shocking how my bike has simply rotted before my eyes.
  13. Hi flyfifer Sounds like Hurley succeeded where Sargent failed miserably. Can I ask how much it was and how long it took? I’m darn sarf in Surrey so P&P would be cheap cheers Paddy
  14. Just to add my 2 cents worth; I read the experiences of Alison Silcox of Motorcycle News (MCN) here in the UK who tried a selection of screens. The MRA Vario was the best so I bought one and am very glad I did. I think we’re all agreed that the OEM screen is junk and the MRA is the gold standard IMO. The secret sauce is the spoiler. I’m 6’0” and wear ear plugs. I no longer have noise or buffeting issues and can now concentrate on the seriously irritating seat.
  15. Hi All I’m new to the forum. I have a 2018 900 GT bought new which had the front brake problem. To cut a long story short; Yamaha replaced both front disks under warranty because they were warped. Seems to be a manufacturing fault and I’m sure some choice words were used by Yamaha when they addressed it with their rotor supplier. Loving the forum and have learned so much from everyone’s experiences. Especially the seat debacle.
