  1. My dash stay is cracked big time at the usual spots, I wish I had figured it out before the nice weather is here šŸ˜ Is there anyone near NJ that is willing to help me fix this? I will pay. The dealership near me has already proved untrustworthy unfortunately. edit: called a different dealer whoā€™s going to replace it for $150(I have the part). Not bad!
  2. Any recs appreciated. Iā€™m in Somerset NJ.
  3. Yikes, thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm not liking the sound of the shop potentially having jumped the gun on diagnosis but unfortunately I think I'm too late. I'm due to pickup the bike tomorrow and they're closed today. I am going to ask if they tried to pressure test and burp the radiator cap/cooling system first and see what kind of answer I get. Tell ya one thing, if shit still isn't fixed after this I'm not gonna be too happy. One more question: How long does it take to check to see if a valve adjustment is needed? I asked them to check that as I'm about to hit 26K and they said it was good and to check again at 30K but that didn't make much sense to me.
  4. Well, just got another call and they said at idle the water pump isnā€™t pumping enough so theyā€™re gonna replace that as well as the thermostat assembly. RIP wallet.
  5. Hey ladies and gents, Seemingly out of nowhere my FJ09 has started running hot in general, and overheating in traffic. If Iā€™m in standstill traffic it will slowly climb in temp and for the first time ever when the fan turns on, it just slows the temp creep down instead of reversing it. It will go all the way up to 240 degrees and even hit ā€œHiā€ if I let it get to that point(which I only did once). Right now itā€™s at the dealer mechanic and they just called me saying that fluid levels and everything are perfect and theyā€™re having a hard time figuring it out. I let them know that the ECU has been Dyno tuned and the fan cut on temp was lowered but that I had been riding for this entire season with no issue before. They seem to think that could be it but it doesnā€™t make sense to me because this just started happening with months prior no issues. Looking for any help, really hoping I can figure this out. Before this started happening it would never go above like 224 and the fan would always steadily drop the temps even in extended slow traffic. The coolant was replaced just a few months ago.
  6. I do NYC commuting sometimes; when thereā€™s a lot of slow moving traffic on a warm day I definetily feel quite a lot of heat and it can make a hot day worse. This is only an issue if Iā€™m in bad traffic though, not any other time.
  7. As a 6'2" rider that does a good amount of longer rides; I have the Givi windscreen and I would never want to do without it. It actually looks good to me too. It has quite a bit of height adjustment and the difference it makes when you find the right setting for you is night and day, keeps a lot of wind and bugs off me.
  8. Grats on the new ride and welcome, you're going to love it. Def been a cold winter this year but warmer weather is right around the corner. Been itchin'!
  9. I've seen this come up previously, 20-25K miles seems to be on the longer end of average chain life.
  10. I've had my FJ09 for a week now and accidental horn hitting has def been a problem for me lol. So far I'm chalking it up to new bike but if I keep struggling I'm going to have to try this out!
  11. Awesome video Clegg, really enjoyed it. Crazy the amount of damage that rock did, I really need to get a skid plate on.
  12. 1moreroad - He did say he had it in for a recall work shortly after he purchased it(new) and a search by vin indicates that there are no outstanding recalls on the bike. Ride365 - Right on, that seems to be the word on the street that Yamaha's are tanks and don't need a whole lot. Looking at the schedule right off the bat to me it seemed like they're just trying to get you in the shop, and I've seen mechanics say the same thing. betoney - Good to know, is that something that's good to do annually? Thanks for all the replies!
  13. Thanks duhg! I'm looking forward to it quite a bit as I do want to do some touring. Which control switch are you rocking?
  14. Hey all, as stated in the title apparently no maintenance has been done except for oil changes and tires. I took a look at the service schedule, which is pretty extensive, but I wanted to ask everyone here: What things most definitely would and/or should be done now that its in my possession? It seems to be in great shape, rides fantastic. I've done some basic work on an older 1983 Honda Nighthawk, but I'm no pro and I will be taking it to a mechanic for a good look over. But the only glaring thing I found myself is that the chain needs to be cleaned and probably adjusted as well. Many thanks in advance, glad to be here!
  15. Hey ya'll, just picked up a 2015 FJ-09 yesterday, came to the dark side from a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 650. I'm already in love! It came with heated grips, akrapovic exhaust, a beak, givi crash bars, givi hard cases, gifi windshield. Pretty much everything I could ask for except for cruise control, thinking I'll get the mccruise option eventually. Super excited!
