  1. Wait, now.... the Gen II also has asymmetrical lights -maybe the Gen I also? On my 2020, the left headlamp is low-beam, right headlamp is high-beam.
  2. If your Niken has the standard Givi rack mount, it should fit. But I am reasonably sure you don't want to pay the shipping cost from Washington state... it will be a pretty hefty shipping box, because a Givi V46 is a hefty-sized top case.
  3. Old-school Yamaha Racing paint scheme on a set of 2003 Yamaha FJR1300 hard bags. This is a heavy Metallic Pearl White, all cleaned up and just put on a layer of ceramic coating on them. Hard to appreciate just how much metal-flake there is in this Pearl White paint. Using these bags only on the two-three long tours planned with wifey this summer. They are a little big on the Tracer for everyday use. Ceramic coating set these bags on Fire! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
  4. We should also keep in mind that the Gen III engine is new, and larger - 890cc's compared to the Gen II's 847cc's. Another slight source of increase in weight is the electronic suspension - thought it likely doesn't contribute a ton of weight. If it behaves as well at the ES found in the Gen IV FJR's, that suspension will be to die for. All that being said... still not sure about the bodywork changes, front end in particular. IDK... seems to be a pinch more boxy, a little less sexy.
  5. To answer your question - do the Radiator guard before anything else. Followed by a fender extender for the front. A rock hit in the radiator will stop your tour instantly.
  6. I know that some here don't think the Yamaha Comfort seats are worth the money, but if you find an opened box set and can buy it for a song, I think it's worth a shot to try. Just after 500 miles on the Tracer, Warchild-wife has indicated that the stock seats aren't cutting the mustard, and she also want me to do something with the suspension - her exact words: "Fix it", and for emphasis, she gave me "The Look"... 😲 She has many, many, many thousands of miles as a pillion - mostly on FJRs. She knows full well that the Tracer's factory setup isn't doing the job when we are both onboard and the bike is loaded with gear. So while I'm at least making a go of it with the Comfort seats, I told her it's the suspension that we need to drop the Big Coins into in order to get properly sorted. She is aware. Believe me. 🙄 So we'll start with the Comfort seats, and now I await my suspension doctor, currently researching the matter, to tell us what some of our options are for suspension. Been down this road before - I know I am looking at a new shock in the back and new cartridges up front, and a minimum. We've yet to try out the new seats - they look pretty nice: Will update this thread when the suspension fun starts. 👍
  7. Normally true, but not this time... only 1000 miles on the Tracer thus far. I've had the RoadSmart IVs ready to go for a week, but was waiting for the Sykik TPMS to arrive so I could install the internal sensors. The old D222s still have a fair bit of tread remaining, but they will sit in the corner gathering dust while serving as emergency backup tires.
  8. This has been a well known issue in the FJR community for years and years... and YEARS! It comes as no surprise that the problem continues on the Tracer hard bags - because they are FJR1300 hard bags, just with a different (thinner) outer clamshell. And, yes, this manual that comes with these bags say to loctite the fasteners.
  9. Everyone has their favorite tire brand. I've been running Dunlops for decades, love them. But not these POS factory D222s. 😣 After 1000 miles, I am pulling them off the bike - they can served as emergency backup tires: Since I am needing to install the internal sensor for the TPMS setup (Sykik SYTP400), it was a good time to replace them with the latest iteration of the tried and true Dunlop RoadSmart. Here are inspirational fresh nubbies - always nice to see: This Sykik TPMS setup gun-metal blue-ish metal valves: Not 90-drgrees... the valves are angled up at 83 degrees, makes airing the up easy: Still have to balance both wheels, but that's tomorrow's tasking.
  10. Yes, you need to account for all weight, so... include packed side cases, and assume a full aux cell. Yesterday, I took Annie for a ride around the Columbian Basin for ~ 300 miles, and she indicated the suspension is not up to task to carry her to Provo, Utah for the start of the 2021 Iron Butt Rally (we are Staff for that event). I called my Suspension Doctor last night, gave him all our info and he is researching our options now. If we only beef up the rear suspension, it will only make the marginal front end even worse, so... likely enough, we will do both. Sidebar: her exact words were: "I want you to fix it before we depart for Provo", and then gave me "The Look".... 😲 I immediately said "Yes, ma'am!" 😃
  11. Finally got around to installing the Givi Radiator Guard. This is one of those jobs where three hands would allow a curse-free installation; one hand for the allen wench, one hand to hold the 10mm nut, and one hand to hold the guard in place while tightening fasteners. Since I only had 2 hands... this installation wasn't curse-free... 🤬 😆
  12. They are very cool pegs, I tried them out on the Tracer for the first time today when I took wifey on a 300-mile round trip blast to Palouse Falls State Park - pegs are defiantly up to task! 👍 And now that jetpilot5 reminded me these are from Oberon, I recall now I used their "Touring" edition pegs on my Hayabusa for the past 12 years - they also kick ass!
  13. Oberon is *exactly* correct - that's where I got these. Yep, the red one.... no wonder I couldn't resist.
  14. This thread is in the same vein at the Hardware Re-Use thread I made a week ago. I have never taken to the Tracer's factory footpegs. I find the long, goofy-looking peg feeler to be a bit ridiculous. Yes, I know the long feelers are easily removed... still no likee: So I yanked off both tonight a replaced them with 16-year-old Superbike pegs that I had on my old YZF-R1. These are from England, and I can not recall what outfit sold them - but they are pretty killer: Closeup: Right side: Closeup... much cleaner-looking, I really like these pegs. 👍 👍 👍
  15. Shyeah, I don't think so. And trust me, this Shad is nothing like some of the huge-ass top bags I've seen on Tracers... these guys will need a wheelie bar waaaaay before I do.... 😆 Below is a Givi V46... so you can see why that behemoth is not going on my bike! Below are full-size FJR panniers he's rockin'... Another mondo-case below... no way I'm using that. The entire point of going from a big, hoggy touring rig is to get away from the ability to pack even more crap on the bike. The Shad I have is like a glove box compared to this monstrosity below... he could probably put a small child in this oversized topcase. This thing is so huge, it might be at his rack's max recommended weight even when empty. 😆
  16. I have a ginormous Givi V46 left over the old FJR... but I am not putting that huge wind drag on my Tracer. I'll be selling that soon. This is a Shad40 Cargo. I didn't purposely try to match the matte black paint, but this sure blends in well with the factory hard bags. Atop the flat rack, I'll be placing a squat, rectangular 1.25 gallon Coleman mini-ice chest that will hold our drinking water. Nothing like pounding down ice-water while underway in the blazing hot desert. 🔥 🔥 🔥
  17. That's unfortunate. Maybe try jacking up pre-load, front and rear?
  18. This. A million times, this. I would lose my license. I normally have excellent discipline - all that goes out the window the moment I swing a leg over a hot liter+ sportbike. 😕 True story: in 2005, I bought an arterial blood-red Yamaha YZF-R1, took it out of the crate, assembled it, PDI'd it, and got on the road. Only two miles later - two miles! 🙄 - there I was, on the side of the road, having Officer Friendly saying "press hard - four copies". Tried to keep the bike - but citations started to pile up. Traded it in less that two years later. 😥
  19. The sidestand is not down on the ground in that picture, the rear end is up on the rear Pit Bull stand. Hence the shadow all around it. Still, you got me curious, so I took the rear of the bike off the Pit Bull stand and checked it again.... looks pretty flat to me. Maybe you got a bad one, or had installation problems...? Who knows. .
  20. DAYUMN! When Givi said they make a seriously manly-sized footstand extender for the Tracer GT, they were not kidding! 😲 When I first installed it, first thing that pops into my head is: how can this beautifully machined but ginormous footpad not hit the centerstand when folded up in position? Well... it's because it's Givi, and they make sure it doesn't... there is a good 5/16" gap remaining when both centerstand and sidestand are folded up for normal running: I still need to road-test it, obviously, but it appears I am not going to worry about the footstand sinking into hot, soft asphalt anytime soon. 👍
  21. Did a little night riding last night. 🔥
  22. @Wintersdark, I want to publicly give you a shoutout and THANKS for your May, 2020 thread on fairing removal. 👍 👍 👍 I am not finding the Tracer GT to be terribly difficult to work on, but it is *always* appreciated to read the steps (and the photos!) from those who have previously done this without snapping off tabs and slots. 😁 It made installing the Givi brackets for auxiliary lights almost pain-free. Found a good spot for the Bosch relay I am using to power these lamps: Left bracket installed: Right lamp installed: 8400 lumen output between these two lamps... 😲 Still have circuits to lay down and switches to install... that's next week. 🔥
  23. This particular set of 3M reflective decals are meant for a flat surface (FJR1300 side cowling), so they will not lay properly on the curved surfaces of the GT hard bags without placing them at slightly 'off-kilter' positions. Which is fine, I don't really care, I only care how they look to cars coming up from behind me at night. 👍 Now I am more motivated to swap out the ginormous rear pumpkin turn signals back here for a more reasonable smaller set.
  24. Today, I scored supplies for the initial 600-mile service, and stocked up on oil for at least 2 more oil changes before the end of summer.
  25. Gold and black always seem to be an excellent color contrast. 👍 Those shouldered carrier bolts already have 125K+ miles on them, they are coming off my old 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa. To further enhance the in-breeding, I used medium thread locker that came from a BMW goody from Wunderlich, so I expect the final drive to start leaking any time now. 😆
