Yamaha padded seat

Recommended Posts

bbutterworth can you give additional details about the seat like firmness, height differences, how it is shaped or if you can give side profile and top profile photos? It would be muchly appreciated!

Also if you've done any longer distance rides with it yet.
Thanks

To the touch the comfort seat feels firm. The dimensions are pretty much the same. Perhaps SLIGHTLY taller but looks much better IMO. 50 miles is the longest ride so far.. I will update once I test on longer distances.

Awesome, thanks for posting the photos.  The price of the seat actually isn't too bad compared to some of the other aftermarket seat manufacturers.  I would be very willing to plunk down that kind of money if it improves the situation.  I could easily do 500-900km on my stock Super Tenere seat, but this one has me adjusting after only 150km.  Not sure if the seat needs more time or my butt needs more time adjusting.

i was struggling a little bit on longer rides with the stock seat, and liked the Saddlemen gel channel concept they have for the FZ-09... So I said to myself, "Hey, self, you have a pair of bicycle shorts that have a very similar gel pad sewed into them. Why don't you try them out under your riding pants and see the difference it makes (at no cost to you)?"

So I did, and so they work. Amazingly well. Went from being sore after 30-40 miles to going on a 180 mile ride on Sunday and feeling like I could keep going if I didn't have to be home for dinner.

I'm not telling anyone not to upgrade their seat (and it's something I'd like to do down the way), but if you can't/don't want to spend the money on that right now, a good set of shorts can make a monster difference for you for now.

It took over 2500 miles for me to break in the seat commuting 50 miles each way to work . I weigh 165 lbs without gear on . Im now at 5000 miles and the stock seat is very comfortable .
That's some serious commuting so far. I will see how my seat breaks in before committing to the comfort seat.

Bike shorts. Never even thought of that. Great idea. I think I'll invest 40 bucks on Thais before I pull the trigger on 400 dollar seat.
Ditto. A mate also uses gel-enhanced bike shorts (he's a keen cyclist too) and claims they are very effective on his BMW R1200 R... L of S
