bgigharbor
Anyone know if anyone makes a strap wrench small enough for the fj filter? None of mine go that small.
caferacer
You can buy smaller sized wrenches (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1289585) but don't need to, I used one that fits a regular-sized car filter. I thought the same thing about the filter wrench I had at first, you just have to twist it past what you're used too, like wrap it around further past what you would on a large filter--hard to explain, but as you wrap it further it tightens and then you end up pulling the lever and when it evens out to a straight pull the filter loosens. Premium Member joeszup Posted July 30, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted July 30, 2016 I cut a piece of 1/4" leather into a 1" wide strip and then put that leather in between filter and wrench. Worked great.
banjobart
I use K&N filters with the 17mm hex nut on the end, then I can use the same 17mm socket on the oil drain plugs as the oil filters. This is much easier than a strap wrench. I use a Channellock pliers on other oil filters, you just toss it out so grip dents do not matter on the old oil filter.
