Stew
Damp leaf strewn back roads today, but the rain stopped. Did a tank full today. The 3rd photograph is the cottage where a certain John Paul Jones was born, a name that will almost certainly be well known to the American lads and lassies here. 4
Premium Member keithu Posted October 28, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted October 28, 2020 Would that be John Paul Jones the US Naval war hero, or John Paul Jones the bass-playing international rock and roll hero?
Stew
The US Naval war hero. I only realised after I posted the photo I should have maybe put a date to the cottage 1

They don't build them like that any more, eh. Must have taken decades to build. It is even more impressive from the other side, but I was stuffed from cake from the wee cafe next to it, and couldnt be bothered to walk round
Premium Member keithu Posted October 28, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted October 28, 2020 I'll bet those narrow hedgerow lanes are fun on a motorcycle, but they are a little terrifying in a car. Three years ago tomorrow I made a pilgrimage to the final resting place of a close associate to the younger John Paul Jones. 1
Stew
Super cool. And those wee hedge lined lanes are what make up most of the roads around me (yes, it is rural) , so you get used to it. Can't exactly go fast, and there is usually gravel and mud all over the place, but you just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds and smells and cover the front brake all the time This time of year pheasants are all over the place, and they are horrible , cos they are idiots, and have not realised that they do not in fact own the road. 1

Stew
And I thought you colonials were all patriotic and would be all excited about that wee cottage
Premium Member keithu Posted October 29, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted October 29, 2020 Our idea of patriotism is blowing shit up while wearing red, white, and blue speedos and drinking cans of shitty beer. I suspect most of my countrymen wouldn't know one John Paul Jones from another. It's kind of you to think of us though. 😁
