  1. I too would like a taller gearing for 6th, but I am sure as shit not going to do it through the final drive, I do way too much first gear traffic crap and couldn't stand a even taller first... really wish first was shorter and sixth taller. The motor can handle it! I think the taller gearing will really help fuel economy though, keep a eye on it for interest sake.
  2. I bet it is the silly returns spring's hook catching your boot, mine was giving me the shits until i grabbed it and twisted it 180 so the hook pointed down instead of up. It was digging in to my soul and locking my foot to the peg.. Intereseting behavior for when you want to put your foot down at traffic lights!
  3. Fit a DNA air filter and balanced the throttle bodies at 10k km's and I was hoping for a little more induction noise but oh well.. feels great and the butt dyno says it feels better in the midrange, will be interesting to see if the fuel economy goes up. It was only marginally out but feels much smoother now.
  4. I cut down and fit a MT-07 sport screen of a smash job at work, was not exactly the right shape and had to space it out a bit off the plastic under shield thingy. But I am getting a lot more clean air flow now and it looks much better. Also gave it a big clean, right in time for the rainy weather this week.. I swear I have never got over a couple of days out of a clean bike. I've got 8500k's on it now will be balancing the throttle bodies at 10000 and probably fitting a aftermarket air filter while I have the tank off.
  5. I was unhappy with my Shorai. Unless they have made some changes that make the battery work better, I won't buy another. Due to the slow warm up and having to start the FJR two - three times to get the bike to start. The first crank was very slow, the second not much better, the third would spin it so fast, of course it would start. My problem was that it caused a situatiion that was wearing out the starter motor, starter motor gears and fly wheel gears. After two years, the battery sits in my garage with a full charge because I don't want to prematurely wear out engine parts. We are having the same issues with SSB Lithiums at work on the dirt bikes, awesome cranking amps when hot but thats not when you bloody need them... I run a Motocell Lithium in my VW buggy though and it is awesome, doesn't even give the starter motor a chance to spin and the motor has started!
  6. Thanks, Bobdog, I actually went and bought the akrapovic, love the noise level, nice note at idle bit not drony at all while cruising, really happy with it. Will have to tweak the co setting a bit more now though, so glad the aussie ecu lets you do this. Loving this bike!
  7. Nah my bar Mount bolts were loose... was a bit pissed off really, but I deal with dealerships regularly and you get what you pay for, unfortunately they pay peanuts and get monkeys.. Still, it's a fantastic bike and should do me for a good while. Just getting my ass used to a different riding position! The old tenere must have been very different as my ass now kills after a hour and a half.. but the bike as a whole is getting smoother and looser as it runs in, so ill probably just get used to it.
  8. I fit up a genuine 39l top box and rack, and a genuine number plate holder without the 10ft long ladder extension so it tucks under the tail light nice and neat now, had to modify the blinker holders so I could fit the blinkers in between the side cases when I travel with them on. Will be getting a exhaust soon still very undecided between the Arrow and the Akrapovic,,, was really hoping to be able to ride around in the city stealthily without attempts being made on my life but it wasn't meant to be! Will probably make a shorty screen up soon too when I find some lexan/perspex locally. That looks like a awesome days riding too by the way! Very lucky! Most of my riding will be commuting I'm afraid..
  9. I got it! My first ride on a Tracer was on the way home from Wollongong in the rain and fog after I bought it!! Loved it, the bike does feel a lot less aggressive than the Mt-09 I was riding for a month, but that did have a Yoshi and a mild tune, but I think this bike will suit me perfectly. Fit up the side case supports when I got home, looked at what it would take to make a fender eliminator whilst still keeping the stock indicators between the bags, those pillion peg bolts were a pita to get out, jam packed full of green loctite.. chain was also way too tight, and wheel not quite straight. And one of the plastic screen screws had it's head chewed off.. Bar bolts weren't overly tight either.. I know i'm a picky bastard but these are very simple things to remedy at a pre delivery.. Still a good first ride home regardless, the screen wasn't noisy until i got over 100km/h, but it was in the high position and the seat in the low so i've switched them over respectively. Think that'll work for me until I can buy a shorty screen, not really a fan of tall screens at all. Interestingly 4th gear doesn't whine in this motor like the Mt-09 I was on at all but 6th still has that noise.. I am actually quite liking the standard exhaust note too! We'll see how long I can keep it for before I change it to something with a note so I'm heard as well as seen..! I did order some handguard Leds as I love the look of them.
  10. Cheque drawn up, bike is ready for pick up tomorrow! Awesome Sydney weather as per usual, pissing down rain.. will be a nice first ride home is the wet!
  11. The "Racing Blu" looks good ! MT-07 Tracer - The local importers won't officially know till after it's announced, maybe at the EICMA trade show. (19-22 Nov) I had great service from them in Melbourne a few bikes ago, gave me a new model to test for a whole day, before it was in the dealers. I'll test ride the Mt-07ho (full power one) We also get the restricted learner version as well but I am test riding the Tracer on saturday, and will more than likely just buy that! I really liked in sitting on it in the car park, and like the high seating position coming from a Xtz660 Tenere. Yep the Race Blu looks great!
  12. Well I hit Yamaha Australia up to see if they had any idea on when/if we were getting a Mt07 Tracer here and they apparently haven't been told so. And a quick look on the Yamaha Australia site and the 2016 models are coming out in Race Blu! I'm stoked as I can't stand the look of the gold forks, so I will be ordering one at the end of the week with a top case and a Arrow exhaust.
  13. After inspecting and installing the Yamaha grips it appears to me that the grips themselves aren't anything special. I had originally thought that the high cost of the Yamaha grips was the result of needing a controller that integrated with the Yamaha control system. Instead, it appears that the controller resides on the bike and the grips just wire straight into that. The cost seems to be at least in part because of the fancy replacement for the shell around the throttle tube/cables with one that contains space for the extra loop of wire for the grip. That's nice, but hardly necessary. This opens up the possibility that you might be able to get integrated heated grips on a budget by wiring aftermarket grips into the existing wiring loom/controller. There may be a difference in resistance between the Yamaha grips and aftermarket grips, but if so you could wire in resistors to compensate. Given that a set of Oxford grips is only about $90, this would be only one-third the cost of Yamaha's grips, and of course you can get Oxford grips on Amazon delivered within a couple of days versus the five and a half months I had to wait for Yamaha's grips. I'm sure this would void the warranty if anything went wrong, but matching the resistance of the stock grips ought to be drop-dead simple and I think low-risk. I am not motivated to try it since I finally got the Yamaha grips, but I would be willing to perform a resistance measurement if someone were interested. Or perhaps someone who hasn't installed the Yamaha grips yet (you know who you are) could measure it, saving me the effort of taking the body panels off again. I was thinking the exact same thing, and was going to ask somebody to measure a element for me. Not that I even have mine yet, but I've got all my mods planned out!
  14. Haha does it get any quieter at speed? Might just be a overly tight gearset that'll loosen up over time.. Hopefully. Or I'll get some of them fancy earphones that noise cancel!
  15. The mates Mt09 that I am riding has a noisy 3rd but 6th is ridiculous, it's not the same whine that the motor exudes but a different pitch, haven't been on a freeway in sixth yet to see if it gets quieter above 110km/h. I am hoping so otherwise the Tracer I'm seriously considering buying might have to have sixth gear removed! Hahaha
  16. That's awesome, that'll solve most of the fuelling issues for me, that always worked for my last two Yamaha's, FZ6 and Tenere. And on my mates bike we have in the workshop now, MT09. Thanks for that traceroz
  17. Does any body know if we can adjust the CO on the dash on the aussie model tracers yet? I have just done my mates standard MT09 through the dash and it got rid of the snatchy throttle, just curious until I get my tracer in a month or two.
