  1. Yep, I tried that too for a while, but It's a bit of a pain to pull it out, and put it away after use. I was hoping for something a bit more elegant. I know I can get something that bolts to the handle bar, but I was hoping someone else had found something that is better.
  2. One thing the FJ-09 seems to be missing is a helmet lock. I have always had one right near the lock for the seat, so it is easy to secure my helmet if I'm going into a store or getting something to eat. If I'm crazy, and someone knows the secret to lock my helmet to the bike, please let me know. And if not, any ideas on how everyone else locks their helmet would be appreciated.
  3. Wow, I love the sound of that, and it looks good too......
  4. Definitely not the case on un-flashed earlier models. Switching to A-Mode has become part of starting the bike for me lol.A flash setting can change your startup routine, I can't imagine having to switch to A mode every time I start my bike.....
  5. Worked like a charm, brake light now works again! Thanks iSteve - much appreciated.
  6. Where is it adjustable, I see the spring connect to the brake pedal and the other end into an assembly, which I assume is a switch for the rear brake. Is there some kind of adjustment on that switch? and if so, how does it work?
  7. Thanks, I'll take a look this weekend, but it is truly frustrating that this was designed this way. All they had to do was provide some way to adjust the length where they put the spring. Let me know how it goes when you remove the rubber pad.
  8. I just spent about an hour fiddling with this, and can't get it to work right. I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious, but when I adjust the assembly so that the spring triggers the back brake light, there is too much travel on the rear brake pedal. If I adjust it so the rear brake pedal feels right, there is too much slack in the spring, and the brake light won't come on. If anyone has any insights into how to do this, I'd love to hear how it should be done.
  9. I was doing a bit of maintenance, and noticed that my rear brake light wasn't working. After scratching my head for a few minutes, I traced the problem to the spring which activates the light when the rear brake pedal is pressed. It looks like there is too much slack in the spring, so the tension never activates the light. (I can pull the spring manually and the light works) Anyone seen this before? I suppose I could try to see if I can tighten up the system, but I can't imagine what would have caused this, and I'm not sure how long it has been out of commission. Anyone else seen this?
  10. Engine mount adjust bolt (front) 7Nm (0.7 m.kgf, 5.1 ft.lbf) Engine mount adjust bolt (rear) 7Nm (0.7 m.kgf, 5.1 ft.lbf) Engine mounting nut (rear lower side) 45 Nm (4.5 m.kgf, 33 ft.lbf) Engine mounting nut (rear upper side) 45 Nm (4.5 m.kgf, 33 ft.lbf) Engine mounting bolt (front upper and front lower side) 45 Nm (4.5 m.kgf, 33 ft.lbf
  11. Approx. 114-115mph. hmmm, I thought that was the top speed with the limiter.... Found this chart on CycleWorld's website - why would they put a limiter on if top speed is only 2mph faster?
  12. I had my top end limit removed when I had my flash done by 2WheelDyno, but I've only had it up that fast once, trying to get out of a bad situation. Anyone know what the top end for this bike is without the limiter?
  13. Mine is fine after 2 years, but I'm curious, do you park your bike for long periods of time without use - like during the cold winter months? and if so, do you use a battery tender?
  14. I left the original hand guards on, they do barely touch when the handle bar is turned all the way, but it doesn't do anything except slightly flex the shield (< 1/4 inch) and I have never had that happen except when testing to see if they would hit. Really, a none issue from my perspective.
  15. Actually, my questions were meant for the OP, but appreciate your input as well. What size shield did you get?Sorry, I got the 20" clear screen
  16. I'm 5-9, and they do just barely touch the handguards at full lock.
  17. pfjohns - you aren't the first one to have issues with the packaging from Madstad, although mine came in fine. I do like the screen much better than the stock, and it feels much more stable too
  18. Here is the picture of my official manual:
  19. It does look like a good deal, but all the other Yamaha service manuals I have don't have a color picture on the cover and they aren't bound like the one in the picture. That's weird, my official manual has the same front cover, except is has the year (2015) under the FJ-09 text top right corner. Mine also has a different left edging, so not sure if this is official or some kind of knock-off.
  20. Maybe it's just me, but I like the look of the Shad 39
  21. I cleaned my bike, and put it away for the winter. I haven't been able to ride in a few weeks, and we had 12-15 inches of slow last weekend. I've given up hope for a few months
  22. What size did you order? I'm 6'4" w2ith a 32" inseam and I ordered the 22" screen, a year ago. My helmet is a Nolan N-104 EVO, and I ride with the chinbar up most of the time. I get a little air movement at the top of the helmet, and a little air around the sides to keep me comfortable in the 90-100+ temps we have here in Oklahoma. I also have a Corbin saddle which sits a bit taller than the stock saddle in low position. Did a 2000 mile trip the end of July out across west Texas to Montrose, CO, and the Madstad was perfect. I am a huge fan! I ordered the 20" Clear Screen, but I'm only 5ft 8.5in
  23. I think the normal behavior of the gas gauge is to show full until you have used half a tank, then stop showing the long bar to the far right. Each subsequent bar disappears after some amount of gas consumption, until you get really low, and then you get a flashing E + the left most bar. I haven't ever run it out of gas, but I have seen the flashing gauge a few times. I do get at least 200 miles on a tank, but I've never pushed it to see how far I could go.
  24. I think you may have uncovered a problem with their new design. I was talking to Blair about what screen would be best for me, (new or old design), and he was touting the new one as much better. I asked him to look at your post on the forum and let me know what the issue was before I would order. He came back and said I should order the old version. He didn't say I couldn't order the new design, but I got the impression he felt he needed to address some issues. I'm guessing you found some things he hadn't seen before. I ordered the old version, and it should arrive this week. I rode my friend's FJ-09 and it had the same Madstad screen I ordered. I liked it a lot, and am anxious to get it installed on my bike and spend more time with it.
