  1. What an amazing story, thanks for sharing.......
  2. Wow, those look like exactly what I need, but they don't ship to the US! Bummer.......
  3. I'm looking to add some additional lighting to my 2015 FJ-09, and I have some 12v lights I bought a long time ago, but never used. After looking for a good mounting place, I think the easiest mounting solution is going to be towards the top of the gold forks. I'm thinking about getting a clamp for each fork (with a rubber pad underneath to help protect the fork), and mounting a flat piece of metal to span the gap between the two forks. I can then drill a hole in the metal, and mount the lights to that flat metal piece. Before I go buy anything and waste my time, has anyone done anything like this? I don't want to damage the forks, and if someone has a better method, I'm interested in hearing about it. Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.
  4. Yes, you should search before starting a thread, but Rotella T6 works fine in our bikes. I've used it since my bike was new in 2015.
  5. You can adjust the heat settings on your grip warmer settings to make them warmer at each level. Unless you were already at the hottest level, this should solve the problem.
  6. just adjusted my valves at 20K, instead of waiting for the 26K as recommended by Yamaha. They were tight, just like others have experienced. I'm trying to figure out when I will adjust them next time, It's a pain to get in there and do the work, but if it saves the engine, it's probably worth it. 20K wasn't early enough, maybe I'll do this every 15K miles. That like puts it at about once a year. I should get pretty good at it if I do it that often..............
  7. Did some maintenance on the bike yesterday, at 20K miles, adjusted the valves, they were tight. I'm glad I did them a little early. Changed the air filter and spark plugs, and did the carb synch. Bike runs noticeably smoother, but it was a pain to get access to all those areas, and do the work. Hopefully, this will be good for another 20K miles.
  8. I did just that! Went to Home Depot, bought another garage door opener, same brand as my garage door. synched it to my garage door and clipped it over the brake wires coming out of the right handlebar. (see picture below) Works great, and I can take it off when I need to for security or to take the dogs for a walk.....
  9. The settings are your personal preference, I left them at the default, didn't see a need to change them and they work fine for me....... Of course, I also got the heated gloves, which keeps the top of my hands warm too - like those much better than the grip warmers.
  10. I started out using google on my phone for navigation, but the issue I had was the limited number of waypoints they allow. I couldn't do a full day riding, and it kept trying to route me places that weren't good motorcycle roads. In the end, I got the Garmin 390 gps. It was a game changer. If I'm going somewhere new, I might set all the waypoints, and just start riding, but mostly I pick a few points where I want to stop for lunch, breaks, etc, and ride the roads that are the most interesting to me. The Garmin keeps rerouting me to my waypoint, so I eventually end up where I wanted. Bonus that it also shows me how long to my destination. Plus it does stuff like show you the speed limit for the road you are on, and provide a way to find new roads (while not riding) to explore. I didn't like the price, but honestly, it was well worth the money. It was about $550 USD on Amazon
  11. After riding my 2015 for 4 years, I'm now hearing this noise too. Never heard it until a few months ago, but if I sit with the bike idling, and the clutch lever pulled to the handle - no sound at all. If I let the clutch lever out (in neutral), it makes a loud noise that sounds like parts rubbing that shouldn't. Don't notice any noises when actually riding. Did anyone ever figure out why this is an issue with the FJ-09? or is this just something I have to live with?
  12. Where was the fuse located - So others won't have to spend the 30 minutes you did.......
  13. The newer cables come with a housing that has a wider (less sharp) bend, which eases the friction/wear on the cable. Many folks never had any issues, and so the advice has just been to monitor for wear. Many of us rode around with a spare cable just in case. I finally installed mine when doing maintenance, but didn't notice any unusual wear on the old cable. Others have had failures, so it's up to each rider to decide if they want to replace the cable now, purchase and carry the cable with them, or wait until it breaks and fix.
  14. Yamaha didn't treat the problem as a warranty issue, but they did release a new cable. My suggestion is to get the new cable and install at your convenience. If you think it will be a while before you do the install, store the cable under your seat, so if you have a failure while riding, you won't get stuck. Many folks, including me, drove for a long time without having any issues. But, you never know if yours will be one of the early failures, or not. Better to be safe than sorry.....
  15. I have this problem randomly with my 2015 FJ-09. Not too often, but maybe once or twice a year it will happen. I've learned to be patient, turn the key off, wait a few minutes and try again. That seems to work better than just continuing to try and start, risking running the battery down.
  16. I second your observations on the Madstad screen. I have been using mine for 2-3 years, and it makes all the difference in the world. Couldn't imagine riding without it.....
  17. Just paid the annual fee.......... The forum has saved me way more than the annual fee
  18. Well Yesterday actually, but I changed my oil, oil filter, checked (and lowered) my tire pressure, and cleaned her up.
  19. I'd be worried about the fluids and the rubber sitting around a showroom for 4 years And I'd expect the price to be reduced a bit more than that
  20. +1 on the Michelin's great tires for this bike.....
  21. Pictures before mounting, and after if you have the time..... and thanks!
  22. Everyone's recommendation for fit is exactly right for them, but may be completely wrong for you! As Betony said above, you really have to watch the shape of the helmet, and try on a lot of brands to see which ones fit you the best. Once you find a brand that fits, good chance that this brand will be something you can come back to and get a good fit on other helmet models, although that isn't 100% true. Not sure how folks can buy helmets off the internet, I always spend a few hours trying them on before I can find one that fits me well enough to buy. ymmv
  23. Yep, they have acknowledged the issue is theirs, and will fix it
  24. My list: 1) Madstad Screen 2) Corbin Seat 3) ECU Flash 4) Mirror Extenders 5) Oil Pan screw replacement (At a minimum replace the plug with the Volkswagen version which is shorter) 6) Radiator Guard 7) Garmin 390LM GPS Suspension (adjustment or replacement) 9) Perfect Squeeze phone holder 10) Top Case 11) Grip Puppies
  25. I have had the 2015 FJ09, and the Madstad screen for 3 years. Couldn't be happier with that setup.
