  1. @angelocorreia , All I did to get the original grip off (left side) was to a stick flat head screwdriver under the grip and moved it around until I made it completely around the bar. Then i twisted and pulled the grip off. The video the @joeszup posted is good, but I would suggest removing the black threaded bar insert with a 12mm hex BEFORE using your screwdriver and pulling the grip off. I also didn't need to use WD-40 or anything to get the grip off. Also, like @piotrek stated wrapping the clutch side with electrical tape is a good idea to help even out the heat and I didn't have any problems getting the new grip on. I used "Grip Glue" brand adhesive. @angelocorreia check out this thread http://fj-09.org/thread/580/grip-heaters-oem
  2. Set them lower than you think. I think my low-med-high settings are 2-4-7, and I can't hold on to 7 for too long even in near freezing temperatures. I noticed that already.. I had low set to 3 and I was surprised at how warm they were getting.
  3. Installed some OEM heated grips today.. will test them out on my ride home from work tomorrow morning.
  4. @piotrek and @stevesweetz I saw PSR made tensioners, but on their site it said that it did not fit the FJ-09. Maybe I went to the wrong product. Regardless, my dealership just ordered the new CCT kit so I will go that route for now. Funny thing is the service clerk was pretty adamant over the phone that the noise would have to be verified before Yamaha would approve the claim, but changed their tune when I was standing in front of them. After explaining the noise to them and that the noise was intermittent, they ordered it without having anyone so much as look at my bike. All they did was verify that my VIN fell into the affected range. They said it would only take 5-7 days to get the kit... we shall see.
  5. Yup it's an 11/16" Another complaint is that both the mounting and adjuster bolts are poorly anodized and will rust unless you give them a coat of WD-40 every so often. Using the stock mount bolts solves half that problem at least. It works and we don't have much alternative, but relative to it's high price, the APE CCT is kind of a piece of crap. That thing should be $40 at most, bastards probably know they have a captive audience. Does anyone know of another company that makes a cam chain tensioner for our bikes?
  6. I don't believe it voids the warranty in its entirety. I asked this question earlier in this thread and the consensus seems to be that it only voids the warranty if it is found to have caused whatever failure you are trying to make a warranty claim for. Of course, that isn't an official answer from Yamaha, but makes sense. Kind of like doing your own "recommended maintenance".
  7. My dealer did not treat it as a "recall" at all. Wants me to bring it up there so they can listen to it and verify before putting in the warranty claim. We will see how this goes. If for some reason they decide the noise my cam chain tensioner makes is normal, I will be ordering an APE unit.
  8. You sir are a retard and a moron. Good luck in life bro, may your next crash send you to the morgue. Wow really @pness regardless of your thoughts on the matter, you shouldn't wish harm or death to a fellow rider. All you are doing is making yourself look bad. @admin not sure this guy should be able to post..
  9. Why bother getting the revised part if you are just going to put the manual tensioner in yourself?
  10. Yes it is. It's meant to be in the center, but I put it at the top I like the bars, but hate that piece (no offense if you like it, just personal opinion) so thats good to know that it doesnt have to be on the bars.
  11. I like the look of the beak, but I have other things to spend the money on at the moment.. Might look into getting one down the road
  12. @estell and @pcwizz Mine also has the white dot on the CCT. I know there have been several revisions to that part so I wonder which version the white dot indicates....
  13. I really like the idea of the Helite jacket... I hope you never actually have to see if it works.
  14. What is "SB"? I'm assuming "SB" stands for Service Bulletin as this issue is not an actual recall, just a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin).
  15. They are metal hex screws that have a rubber covered nut that attached them to the bracket.
  16. The general consensus is that an ECU flash is one of the better mods for the money available for the FJ. Having said that, my FJ is not flashed, and although the fueling/throttle is touchy and jumpy at low RPMs I have never experienced anything I would refer to as sputtering. When I think sputtering, I think misfire or something along those lines. You might want to get that checked out at the dealer before flashing to make sure everything is good to go first.
  17. Unfortunately that seems to be how things work these days. Not every company, but probably most companies, would rather spend resources trying to prove the invalidity of a warranty claim rather than fixing the problem. I understand that as a company you have to have some sort of criteria for warranty claims to protect the bottom line, but by denying them so often you are going to hurt your consumer base and in the end hurt your bottom line.
  18. Yamaha thinks not all need to be replaced. So why would anybody be in a big hurry to install another revised cct from Yamaha when it appears many here have already judged Yamaha incompetent in the design of multiple revisions and either incorrect or dishonest on whether they are likely to fail and aren't supporting owners in the way they like? How long will that newly installed cct be backed by Yamaha to reply to your strawman? What's that definition of insanity again? I don't disagree with you, just offering a different view of circumstances because your initial comment seemed condescending. When my CCT finally gives out, I will be putting a manual tensioner in myself so honestly I'm not too worried about which practice a dealer uses to justify the repair.
  19. Exactly. Skip I don't think it's that cut and dry. It's a known problem and if you listen to Yamaha and the part fails out of warranty destroying the motor (worst case scenario) do you think Yamaha will replace everything? Maybe, but doubtful. Pretty sure @adjuster would have something to say about that. So maybe the "dishonest" dealer is actually looking out for the customer to avoid a more severe problem and repair cost in the future.
  20. More for the rider than the FJ, but I got my Sena 20s installed and tested it on a short ride. No complaints, works as advertised, and I can't believe I waited this long to get one. http://i.imgur.com/kZ79UUT.jpg
  21. Sorry for the bad luck... my dealer did the opposite. Didn't hear the noise but offered to go ahead and replace it since the VIN was in the range. Basically the mechanic took my word for it that I was getting intermittent chatter from the CCT.
