I have a set of these that I will be installing soon. Used them last winter and rode almost year round (live in GA)

I didn't use tape during the install and don't notice a difference. I'm just thankful for warm hands! They work so well I had to lower the values for each setting. Me too! Definitely a good purchase.

I used electrical tape on my left grip... I have nothing to compare it too, but I can say that both my grips heat up at relatively the same speed and as close to the same temperature as I can expect. Its not 100% perfect, but given all the complaints of uneven heating and the mention of the electrical tape "fix" on more than just this forum, I think it helps. For how long? Only time will tell... If you are skeptical just install them without using the tape and if the heat is uneven to the point that it annoys you, pull the grip off and add the tape... should only be a 10 minute fix.

@angelocorreia , All I did to get the original grip off (left side) was to a stick flat head screwdriver under the grip and moved it around until I made it completely around the bar. Then i twisted and pulled the grip off. The video the @joeszup posted is good, but I would suggest removing the black threaded bar insert with a 12mm hex BEFORE using your screwdriver and pulling the grip off. I also didn't need to use WD-40 or anything to get the grip off. Also, like @piotrek stated wrapping the clutch side with electrical tape is a good idea to help even out the heat and I didn't have any problems getting the new grip on. I used "Grip Glue" brand adhesive. @angelocorreia check out this thread http://fj-09.org/thread/580/grip-heaters-oem

Set them lower than you think. I think my low-med-high settings are 2-4-7, and I can't hold on to 7 for too long even in near freezing temperatures. I noticed that already.. I had low set to 3 and I was surprised at how warm they were getting.

Installed some OEM heated grips today.. will test them out on my ride home from work tomorrow morning.

@piotrek and @stevesweetz I saw PSR made tensioners, but on their site it said that it did not fit the FJ-09. Maybe I went to the wrong product. Regardless, my dealership just ordered the new CCT kit so I will go that route for now. Funny thing is the service clerk was pretty adamant over the phone that the noise would have to be verified before Yamaha would approve the claim,but changed their tune when I was standing in front of them. After explaining the noise to them and that the noise was intermittent, they ordered it without having anyone so much as look at my bike. All they did was verify that my VIN fell into the affected range. They said it would only take 5-7 days to get the kit... we shall see.

Yup it's an 11/16" Another complaint is that both the mounting and adjuster bolts are poorly anodized and will rust unless you give them a coat of WD-40 every so often. Using the stock mount bolts solves half that problem at least. It works and we don't have much alternative, but relative to it's high price, the APE CCT is kind of a piece of crap. That thing should be $40 at most, bastards probably know they have a captive audience. Does anyone know of another company that makes a cam chain tensioner for our bikes?

I don't believe it voids the warranty in its entirety. I asked this question earlier in this thread and the consensus seems to be that it only voids the warranty if it is found to have caused whatever failure you are trying to make a warranty claim for. Of course, that isn't an official answer from Yamaha, but makes sense. Kind of like doing your own "recommended maintenance".

My dealer did not treat it as a "recall" at all. Wants me to bring it up there so they can listen to it and verify before putting in the warranty claim. We will see how this goes. If for some reason they decide the noise my cam chain tensioner makes is normal, I will be ordering an APE unit.

Yes it is. It's meant to be in the center, but I put it at the top I like the bars, but hate that piece (no offense if you like it, just personal opinion) so thats good to know that it doesnt have to be on the bars.

@angelocorreia Is that piece with the "GIVI" logo removable?

I like the look of the beak, but I have other things to spend the money on at the moment.. Might look into getting one down the road

@estell and @pcwizz Mine also has the white dot on the CCT. I know there have been several revisions to that part so I wonder which version the white dot indicates....

What is "SB"? I'm assuming "SB" stands for Service Bulletin as this issue is not an actual recall, just a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin).

They are metal hex screws that have a rubber covered nut that attached them to the bracket.

The general consensus is that an ECU flash is one of the better mods for the money available for the FJ. Having said that, my FJ is not flashed, and although the fueling/throttle is touchy and jumpy at low RPMs I have never experienced anything I would refer to as sputtering. When I think sputtering, I think misfire or something along those lines. You might want to get that checked out at the dealer before flashing to make sure everything is good to go first.
