  2. I really like my Sargent seat. Significant improvement over atock. I initially purchased one with the Carbon FX cover but felt it was too slick with my textile riding pants, so I had them recover it with the Performance Plus cover.
  3. Although I don't necessarily disagree with you, its my understanding that Yamaha did not put limiters on the European models so Yamaha must have determined these bikes can run into the triple digits without major issues. I personally have not had any issues with a front end "wobble" (even took it up to 115mph indicated just today) but I can definitely feel the front end get light under acceleration and at higher speeds. I have thought the ride was a little harsh so I decided to fiddle with the suspension today. The sag on my front suspension seemed appropriate approx 39mm so I didn't mess with the pre-load on the forks. I did soften the dampening 2 clicks from stock. (I found that the dampening screw on mine has a total of 13 clicks of adjustment and stock was 6 clicks CW from all the way soft, So i am currently at 4 clicks from all the way soft on dampening). I didn't notice a change in the front end at speed (no wobble, just light) but did notice a slight improvement in how well the front end reacts to bumps now. I then put the rear pre-load to position 5 thinking that more pre-load in the back would help stabilize the front at speed (stock was set to position 4). However I felt that at position 5, the front end felt even more light and loose (still no wobble at 105mph indicated). So when I got back to the house I went the other way and put the rear pre-load to position 3 and took it out again. Surprisingly, it felt more stable with less pre-load on the rear. I kept it at position 3 and then softened the dampening approx 1 turn from stock to get rid of some of the harshness. First time messing with suspension on a motorcycle so I made 1 adjustment at a time and took it for a ride, came back made another adjustment, etc. FYI... 175lbs rider, 6'0", tank bag and tail bag (on rear seat) probably 10lbs combined

  5. I dont know for sure about the Protons, but when I installed the Motodynamic flush mount LEDs they were listed as "FZ6R / FJ-09" ... so I would assume its the same for the Protons.
  6. the motorcycle isn't the only thing that gets hot... more importantly you free up space for another vehicle in traffic, and at stop lights prevent yourself from being rear-ended. I don't see how it's a "douche move"

  8. The reaction time is in reference to a human's ability to make adjustments once the tire has lost traction not the initial reaction to hit the brakes. I think that we are missing the point of ABS... it's there as a safety net, not to activate purposelfully. If the rider brakes optimally, the ABS will never kick in thus the bike will stop in the shortest distance possible. If a rider grabs the brakes so much that the brakes are in full ABS mode, then yes the bike will take longer to stop than if the bike was braked optimally without activating ABS. ABS is not there to be activated for the full duration of braking, although it can function that way if the rider input causes it, it is there so that when a rider is braking optimally and then you hit some crosswalk paint or oil on the road, you will not lose control and the bike has the ability to return to optimal braking. 99% of the time if a bike loses traction at the front wheel, the bike is going down. I agree that ABS is not as important for the rear as it is for the front. However, I think that an ABS equipped bike will stop shorter and safer than a non ABS bike simply because it allows the rider to brake optimally only activating once the rider has exceeded available traction.
  9. Hey Georgia riders... I know lane splitting/filtering isn't legal in GA, but I'm wondering if anyone has done it during traffic jams or at traffic lights? Nothing crazy just slowly filtering through.. If so, did the police react? I'm a law abiding rider (except occasional speed :-p ) so I'm afraid to try filtering.. just been in a few situations lately where it was driving me crazy to have to sit in stopped traffic.
  10. Congrats on the purchase! You will not be disappointed. I went from a 2008 Versys to my FJ-09. I loved my Versys, but as much as I loved my Versys, I love the FJ more. Its all around a better, smoother, more powerful bike.... except the seat!! The Versys seat was like sitting on a couch compared to the FJ. I hope that you find the seat on the FJ to be more accommodating than I have. Currently trying to decide which seat option im going to go with.
  11. I definitely think that having the ability to decide when and where your ABS is active would he a good thing. I think that being able to set the strength of the ABS (like some TCS offer) would be better. I still don't feel that it makes me unsafe to have it on the bike. @eeetea your example is unique given that you were on a road in a setting that you are familiar with knowing that you WANTED to break traction. I would think most people would appreciate not losing traction under braking when running over gravel, dirt. Although it's hard for me to say because I have only intentionally activated the ABS on the rear to feel it in action while I was on a paved road. Either way, if you are for ABS or against it, everyone just be aware of it and ride safe.

  14. I like that OGIO tail bag. I went with a bigger option and got the Nelson Rigg CL-1040-TP. Its 29L expandable to 39L and fits the back seat pretty well. It can even hold a full face helmet when expanded.   15. Which dan moto was tested? Their systems seem cheap in comparison (in terms of price). Also noticed their exhausts are not available for the FZ-09/MT-09 (FJ-09) if you access the US site, but are if you access the international site.
  16. The other day I put some orange stripes on the FJ with some striping tape. I also put Motodynamic flush mount turn signals, integrated taillight, and fender eliminator. Today I put some wheel stripes to match the orange striping..
  17. Curiously, the install instructions off their website show the displacers. How tall are you... I am 5'9", 32" inseam. I'm 5'11", 33" inseam.. with the deflector attached to the top of the windscreen I can ride down the highway at 80mph+ with my visor open no problem. The wind catches my helmet just above the visor so my vents still get air. No buffeting, just smooth air. I noticed the handguard displacers on the install instructions as well, but when I got the kit they were not there. Since I contacted Puig regarding the handguard displacers prior to ordering and used their recommended vendor. Puig sent me the displacers free of charge direct from Spain. It was a little annoying, but glad I contacted them ahead of time.
  18. Yes, the top layers hit the windscreen, and had to be removed. I also have the Puig touring windscreen. I suggest buying the little deflector that attaches to the top of the windscreen if you go with Puig. Regarding the handguards, I contacted Puig before ordering my windscreen and was able to get a set of "handguard displacers" with mine. I got to keep the look of the stock handguards. I don't understand why they aren't included in every kit.
  19. I just did the same thing Motodynamic flush mount turn signals and Motodynamic integrated taillight, except I used the Motodynamic fender eliminator kit for the FZ-09. No modification was needed except longer mounting bolts from ACE hardware. I didn't like having to use the resistors to slow the flashing down on the turn signals, so I ordered a flasher relay from TST Industries (recommended by @beanburnham ) which made all of the turn signals plug and play without having to find a place for the resistors.
  20. Nobody uses HJC?? lol.. I have a HJC FG-17. Quality helmet in my opinion. Used Scorpions prior to this helmet.
  21. I will be doing the same thing this evening. I'm going to remove the rear turn signals for now and just run the integrated tail light.. hope it doesnt get me into trouble!
  22. Im running the Puig touring screen with the removable deflector (which is a necessity for this screen) and love it. I spoke with Puig's customer service before ordering and they sent me the hand guard displacers so that I could keep the stock hand guards attached. I agree that the stock guards are not very good in terms of functionality, but I do like how they look with the bike. I have a set of Barkbuster Blizzards that I use when the temperature drops. Back to the windscreen though. The Puig does flex a bit if you are behind a vehicle on the highway, but it you have clean air it is not the bad. I am 6 foot even, and with the deflector attached, the screen at set to the medium height setting and seat in the low position, I am able to ride with my visor open at highway speeds without a problem. The air barely catches the top of my helmet so if I open the vents I get airflow, but no buffeting and pretty quiet when they are closed.
  23. I can't find anywhere to actually buy them, or I would have ordered them with the Puig windshield. Points to anyone who can find me a place to purchase the guards! Puig customer support sent me to a website called motovationusa.com. If they aren't listed on the website email sales@motovationusa.com and they will set it up. I was going to order them and still may, but they are $200 which is a little pricey for handguards.
  24. Received my Puig Touring screen today.. Haven't had a chance to install it. Only had the bike for 2 weeks but the stock windscreen had to go (going more touring oriented). I will post some pictures once it is on.
