  1. The welds gave up and the upper tube tore at the spine. I will hand this to a welder and have all the welds fixed/beefed up. ...will also add a brace.
  2. Barkbusters Storm single-point mount are fantastic. I was skeptical of the single-point mount, but they're solid and protect well. They replaced the KTM guards I had on the bike... and they worked okay. I prefer the simplicity and improved coverage of the Barkbusters. Unrelated... Wheels on the bike in your profile pic look interesting/unique. Yours?... have pics?
  3. Exactly 5 years later... the replacement stay broke again ๐Ÿ˜’. Not quite as bad as the first one, from what I can see (still on the bike). I might be able to fix it this time... hopefully. Going to tear into this tomorrow and decide what to do. I will have to be more selective/careful with my off-pavement adventures methinks.
  4. I blew past a gas station just one exit west (Trafalgar) and took a chance. Paid for it with some well deserved ribbing from my wife. My reserve range varies, but I have gotten 60km once. Not this time. This was my first unscripted out-of-fuel stop. A little embarrassing I admit. ๐Ÿ˜›
  5. I recommend that you install the speed bleeders once the brake lines are all installed and filled. You can use vacuum (using a large syringe) to pull fluid into the lines initially... or let gravity do the work... then install speed bleeders and bleed. Once the system is charged, regular bleeding is a snap.
  6. Yeah... I suppose the idea of the gadget would be to have something happen automatically, like disconnect a load. Looks like you'd have to drive a relay coil with this board rather than actual load. Upon reading of some buyer comments (Amazon)... the display module remains lit, even when the output relay disconnects. So when on a switched circuit this thing would work well to load shed. To follow through with @Ziggy105's idea... would be easy to rig a LED pilot light to alert the rider when that happens.
  7. Cool gadget. I wouldn't necessarily want to use it to drop a circuit at low run voltage (for say load shedding). Wonder if it draws anything at standby.
  8. Went to see my kid in London ON, and on way back discovered a new data point (49 km on reserve)... 5 km short of the gas station ๐Ÿ˜–... and 7 km from home. Phew... rescued by my lovely wife. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
  9. I bought mine at Bolts Plus (local supplier). They probably get their fasteners bulk, i.e. source unknown. Bolts are stamped A2-70. I saw some low profile fasteners you mention on Amazon (these). Wiseco uses something similar (these), but I went tapered following Hinson, and the bloke from the video. You could always carve a shallow countersink in the steel plate to seat the heads properly. I highly recommend this fix. The clutch is quiet and feels tight, now that the slop is gone. Good luck.
  10. Unusually warm (21C) for late October here in Southern Ontario... took the afternoon off to enjoy fall colours out in the country... a feast for the senses.
  11. For winter storage, I fill my tank with quality (๐Ÿค”) ethanol-free fuel (Shell is close by) and go for a short ride to work the fuel through the system. Outside of that, the bike gets no special treatment. Bike starts and runs great.
  12. Nah... Honda isn't immune to kinks. I am lurking over at the NT1100 forum... there's kinks.

Terrible news... blood boils to hear stuff like this. Hope you end up with some half decent resolution to this at some point. Gonna take time methinks.
  14. LOL... the drum beats a little louder now for sure. I think I will cool my heels a bit and wait for kinks to get ironed out with this first gen release. The TA forum will be good to follow in the meantime. Great to see it hit our market for sure.
  15. I looked out the window... still in Canada. ๐Ÿ˜
  16. How does it feel between the knees when underway? The seat on the TA looks more IN than ON the bike... does it feel fatter or narrower than the Tracer? Fatter would be gooder, for me. ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. Thanks. I am very happy with the outcome. Solid when in use, and the on-off process is a snap. These grab rail mount points will be perfect for something you're looking to do. The leading edge of the Shad plate is in the way of anything deeper than 11-12" at current perch height/angle. Would be great to see another adaptation of the concept.
  18. Beautiful autumn day... glorious 9C and full of colour. Pumpkins are out and lots of Halloween spirit out in the country. Got the mitts slipped over the hand guards... light summer gloves... toasty. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  19. That is a nice looking bike. I am going to give it a serious look at the next opportunity. It will be interesting to see what the aftermarket looks like in a couple of years... i.e. suspension, cruise etc.
  20. Congrats, and thanks for your initial thoughts. Now that you got it a bit dirty... it's truly yours. ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. Tomorrow was several days ago... ๐Ÿคจ
  22. I used a drill press. I am sure it can be done using a hand tool, but the drill press is the right tool for this. I used a 1/4" bit through the rivet head, and a 1/8" round punch to drive the rivet loose. I wondered this too. Hinson includes Loctite 272 in their kits, specifically for its high temp rating... so that was good enough for me. It will take some effort to disassemble, as it should I suppose. I don't expect to be doing this again for a good while. This might even become the next owner's problem. ๐Ÿ˜ I bought KEO 53129 at Grainger Canada (Cat#: 3P421). It wasn't too spendy. It's a tool, so never a waste. ๐Ÿ™‚
  23. Job is done. Took the bike out for a half hour ride around the neighborhood today... and I am happy to report that the racket/roughness is gone. Saved a bunch of money, so that's cool. The clutch is a bit grabby now with the stack shuffled and the clutch plates buffed dull. I picked up guidance on torque and Threadlocker from these sources: Threadlocker 272 (red, high temperature), YT video re: Hinson basket kit installation. There are others. Bolt torque 12Nm (wet), YT video re: Extreme Creations FZ-09 basket assembly... I went 10 lb-ft. I did not peen the bolts because the Helicoils made it awkward and I was likely to cause more harm than good. It'll be fine. ๐Ÿ˜ The job is pretty straight forward with the right tools. I had most on hand, save for the countersink bit and the 272 Threadlocker. A couple of photos... progress and a finished product. Cushions fit very snug... helps to coat surfaces with oil.
  24. Yup...it's in that YT video I posted above (at 1:20)... but then forgot about it and just removed the sprocket.๐Ÿ˜–
  25. I am sure there are several factors to keeping the battery healthy and lasting. I don't ride at all during winter months (Dec-Mar), and the battery is on the tender full time. I leave it on the bike and pull the main fuse. During the riding season it is never on the tender. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Agree... would not want to cheap out on something as critical as a battery. Could totally ruin the day... or worse. Having said that... holding on to one well beyond reasonable life expectancy probably not a good idea either... note to self. ๐Ÿ˜
