  1. Interesting comparison. I also liked the DL1000, but OMG heavyyy. Very very comfortable bike, though. I could have ridden it for days on end. I'm also curious how you find the handling. That's one thing about the DL1000 I didn't like - or, had trouble adjusting to - the larger front wheel. Congrats! Looking forward to hearing more adventures!
  2. I'm with ya all the way on this! That said - the 2024 Transalp is looking decent, and very reasonably priced. Dork paid under $12k USD all-in. Panniers and farkles extra.
  3. I take no credit. Learnt it here from smarter ppl than I.
  4. Welcome to the forum! I'm sure looking forward to a ride to/in your neck of the woods. For the temp discrepancy, it seems likely one of the previous owners installed a BoosterPlug? It tricks the ECU into thinking it's colder than it is, so the ECU compensates with a richer fuel mixture. It's a quick n dirty way to "correct" or otherwise modify some fueling complaints about these early-gen bikes. "Note: The Yamaha MT-09 series is using the same temperature sensor for the fuel injection calculations as for the temperature readout in the dashboard. (Most other brands have separate sensors). This means that your dashboard display will show 20°C / 35°F lower than actual ambient temperature when you install the BoosterPlug." 16C - 20 = -4, so that seems close to spec. It's a good mod to have! Looks like it should be behind the left panel. Easy to find out.
  5. I've wondered this myself, and chalked it up to a lack of available options - the choices aren't compelling. I was able to move my shifter up a few splines, so good enough, but it'd be nice to move the pegs down a bit instead.
  6. I try to run full synth too, for longevity, but also (as I understand it) synth tends to linger in the upper end longer than dino oil. Helps prevent dry starts. Anyways, no problem with synth moto-specific oils at all, they're engineered for wet clutches.
  7. That's a common theme - these bikes are great for taller people. Good luck on the new ride!
  8. Blackfoot Motosports (now Barnes ?) had a demo Triumph that my g/f rode before she bought it. But, yeah, demos are rare indeed.
  9. Odd, yes, but also useful. Keep me posted; we might be able to work something out. I'm hoping you find your bike in great condition and won't need to sell anything off.
  10. Dannng, sorry to hear that, brother. And, yes, when I lived in YYC your area was generally very quiet. The sketchy stuff seemed to happen mostly downtown or Ogden.
  11. As a follow-up, @Heli ATP, I had some free time yesterday and fiddled with all the bracketry and such - no clue if this is exactly how it should mount up, but I was able to affix it in a 'good enough, it seems stable' way. I hadn't noticed the black knockout plugs in the holes of the plastic it's now mounted to. Just popped them out, and made it work. The worst that will happen is the plastic may crack from a bit of pressure. It could do with grommets, but for now it seems pretty great! One thing I noticed IMMEDIATLY was how the wind hits my helmet now - it never did with the barn door, all I felt was turbulence. Now I have actual AIR blowing through the vents in my helmet...
  12. When I bought my used '15 from the dealership, they told me the bike had the 3rd iteration of the tensioner, all replaced under warranty. I've heard it rattle a wee bit now and then, but it's always silenced on its own. No problems here. Come to think of it, I haven't heard it all this year.
  13. So far any part numbers I've needed seem to work in fleaBay. No real savings or anything...just happy that some parts are still floating around out there.
  14. Came across this today - thought it might be a handy reference for some of us. I was looking for a reflector I cracked and smashed a couple of years ago...
  15. Looking forward to more photos of your beautiful country! Welcome
  16. It wasn't as slick as the rubber band fix, I'll give you that, lol. I only need power for two things, and ended up with three ports. But honestly it wasn't difficult at all. The worst part is fiddling with all the o-ring terminals when it's battery swap time. I'm just too lazy to improve it for the time being...
  17. I think some people have replaced it with a dual USB outlet. Out of frustration, I just stopped using the power port because of the same reason as you and wired my tank bag directly to the battery. Now I can just charge a couple of gadgets in there instead. My GPS mount is also wired directly to the battery.

    Dirt Bikes

How about an XR650 of some flavour ? Buddy of mine had an XR650r, and loved it. Rode it hard. Not destructive hard, or reckless - but absolutely pushed it. They do indeed live up to their reputation. The XR650L is a solid choice, too. ...or a CRF300L? Can't go wrong there, either.
  19. Sounds like a great ride! There are probably enough nerds here to assist with your phone. What make/model?
  20. Congrats! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
  21. @duckie brings up an interesting point - how to make cleaning a bit easier. Anyone try ceramic coating? I'm considering it. It's a bit of elbow grease to get the painted surfaces prepped, but bugs and grime just slide off with water. A friend of mine ceramic coated his car with great results.
  22. You guys wash your bikes? I don't think I've washed mine once yet haha. Been too danged busy
