  1. Thanks! Sadly, the bolt holes don't line up. No worries though.
  2. Got my FJ back from storage yesterday, and went for a short ride with Dad today for my first real ride since a) getting hurt a year ago nearly to the day (haven't been able to ride since until now) and b) since installing a Yamaha racing air filter, new plugs, TB sync, and vavle adjustment. On a) I definitely need to practice to get my confidence back, but it felt great to be out again and analyze what needs work. On b) it might be in my head but WOAH it seems to have more pull than when I rode it last. Certainly improved.
  3. Not that this is scientific, but a decent guide for what one can expect (for FJ's at least) And here are my stats, for whatever it's worth - sometimes I ride conservatively, sometimes spirited.
  4. Except for the part between Edmonton and Hinton. Rode to Valemount one year and it was a bit of a grind until the east park gate @ Jasper.
  5. I can't wait to ride my '15 to your neck of the woods. What colour is your new-to-you ride?
  6. ooOOoo enjoy that BMW!! ...and don't be afraid to pop in and share some stories and pics now and again.

That turned out great! All that's left is to start racking up the miles.
  8. FJR bags, so they have FJR liners. I prefer taking them into the hotel room instead of the whole bag, but that's just me. Everyone's different.
  9. It might be a bit hard to tell from the pics, but, in person, it's a very compact piece of kit. It looks like it'll fold up / break down into dang near nothing and take up next to no storage space. Great value, overall.
  10. Ohhhh same. They're a bit more expensive on scAmazon.ca though (not that it's stopping me).
  11. That's really good to know. I would have thought most if not all FI engines would have knock sensors. I guess not.

    It sure POPS now!
  13. Great pics, now I have road trip envy Looks like a great way to unwind!
  14. Higher compression engines means it wants higher octane. High octane runs better in high compression ratio engines because it's more stable under those conditions. Running lower octane now and again when nothing else is available won't hurt anything because the knock sensor can usually compensate, but it's ill advised to run it long-term because of the risk of pre-detonation (knock). So, you get longer life, better fuel economy and power, and less knock with high octane as recommended by the manufacturer.
  15. Ha! eh, new gadget, people watching...all good. Thanks again for taking a moment for us! Considering the size, cost, usefulness - these things seem like a great value. I think you made a great choice.
  16. I can't tell you how many times I've accidently hit the Stop switch during a ride and had the engine cut off, usually when fiddling with a throttle lock (soon to be replaced). Scared the bejeebers out of me every time. I doubt this was your root cause, but I'm here to tell you it can happen.
  17. It's happened to several folks on this forum: The 2015 we have has an oil plug with a guard moulded into the oil pan at the very bottom of said oil pan. This makes it the lowest point on the bike. There should be some part #'s in that thread. I found one on fleabay because it was a cheap & quick fix (I got a Volkswagen N-911-679-01, but there are other options in the above thread). Just grind off the guard and replace the factory oil plug. Then the catalytic converter is the lowest point on the bike. I'd rather a ding in the cat than oil leaking all over. A year or more later I got a skid plate, but I don't regret shrinking the oil plug by several mm just the same. I sometimes go on rides long enough that I'd just rather the odds be in my favour. This is just how I went about it is all.
  18. I like the Cosmo, and if you're doing the windscreen anyway: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174883459224?hash=item28b7ddd098:g:kjcAAOSw8GtZQUiM Also, you might want a skid plate and/or do the oil plug mod. The oil pans on these bikes can crack easily if you kick up the wrong rock or slam into a speed bump.
  19. Quite a lengthy thread here on helmet stink
  20. Very cool! It never ceases to amaze me how well the FJ / Tracer seems to fit folks from nearly any riding background or previous bike.
  21. Yikes, I hope it's nothing serious...good that it's still under warranty. Hope it works out
