  1. That is however an absolutely unambiguous statement !!
  2. Sargent and Bagster both offer the same seat for 2018/2019 Tracer 900's and Tracer 900 GT's It might be useful if it was clearly stated in this thread what an FJ is and what it is the same as.
  3. It might be useful if this statement ref the Pans was clarified by someone. When it is said Sargent used an FJ Pan to produce a GT seat does this mean -- Sargent have their own moulding for an FJ seat or Sargent used a Yamaha FJ seat to produce a Sargent GT seat. Pedantic it might be but I smell the potential for all sorts of confusion coming out of this thread ???????
  4. johnmark101, does the Sargent pillion seat, fit the Sargent rider's seat -----better than the OEM pillion seat fits the Sargent rider's seat ??
  5. I have just looked at my own OEM seat. (GT900). My seat is on low setting and the fit to the tank pad looks very similar to your Sargent seat pic IMO. Something like 25mm of the "step" showing. I agree completely that your pic of the fit of the Sargent rider's seat to the pillion seat is very poor. Does the Sargent seat not come as a pillion and rider pair ?
  6. It's maybe adding insult to injury but could you post up a pic of the "fit at the front" that you don't like and a pic of the fitted Sargent rear seat. The rider's seat clearly looks wider than the original.
  7. stgolfer sez Sargent have not completely addressed the slope issue ---- see above. The comment and pic on the non GT section is extremely relevant.
  8. I sent an enquiry to Sargent UK re price and availability (their site still shows the seat in development) and got this reply today -- actually, the seat has only just gone up on the USA website - they aren't actually shipping units yet, just taking pre-orders.It will most likely be the end of October before we receive some stock. In the meantime, as soon as we have pricing confirmed, we will put the seat up onto our website for purchase -
  9. I have just gone out to the garage and put the rider's seat on as described by stgolfer. To say it is "not particularly stable" is a huge understatement. It rattles about like a pea in a gallon can !
  10. Sheep are waterproof as long as you feed them regulary 😀 on anything except a Californian diet 🤔. Happy to get a reaction though !
  11. That's a good photo to show the loading advantage, compared to multi bags, for sure.
  12. Is the Quick Shifter really something that GT owners want or is it the answer to a question nobody actually asked ? Fundamental question.
  13. Fddriver2, I like posts where the commentary is given context --- like yours. My thread on converting the GT into a tourer capable of camping I think gives context to any questions I raise or opinions given. We should remember that this thread started by the OP flagging up inexpensive pannier liners and the prime benefit of easily taking the contents someplace. I admit to having led the thread in a Volume direction ! I note your observation that the liner bags help packing the Side Opening panniers ! I am now happy that my GT can give me the option of the 22litre panniers for "hotel" trips and 30litre soft panniers for camping trips. I already use unfitted, £3 off eBay, zipped bags to lift hotel kit out of the panniers ---- but am still interested in the benefits,? of fitted liners. Ref lightweight backpacking/outdoor kit as a basis for camping kit selection - I support that but having spent a lot of time in that world, I enjoy the benefits of a motorcycle mule to carry a much larger tent and more cooking kit! My days of one pot for everything are long gone !
  14. Mesh bags --- that's a good suggestion because in my limited experience the Givi panniers do have good water seals so no need for dri bags.
  15. That's as maybe ___but it's not a 22litre Givi pannier as supplied with a GT.🤔
  16. I wish I could get everything I want "in the tent" in One pannier ! Down Sleeping bag,Thermarest mat and little else seem to fill one of mine.
  17. So Chitown have you actually got the bags as flagged up by the OP? I am well aware of the problems/benefits? of using multiple bags in the Panniers.
  18. Can you get more in the panniers using these bags --- than trying to fill the pannier on the bike ??
  19. as promised pics of the mounting plate. First things first; the plan was to replicate the pannier hooks and tongue to mount the plate, a hook and tongue (the tongue lower left).. A soft wood former liberally coated in epoxy putty, wrapped in cling film and pushed into a hook socket gave me a pretty good model of what a hook could look like. This also revealed that the front sockets are slightly bigger than the rear sockets. I have no idea why Yamaha designed them like that. The little aluminium plate is a copy of the shape to use as a master. 14mm nylon was used to produce the "hooks" and the spacers. The mounting plates are made from 3mm aluminium chequer plate with strap slots and some lightening holes (they look smart as well!) 8mm nylon was used to make the tongues ( I don't seem to have taken a pic for some reason!). The four upper dome head screws fix the hooks to the plate. The Large dome head in the centre is a tube nut which joins the 6mm rod across the two plates. The small centre dome head locks the tongue in place. And the objective of the exercise, 30litre Lomo soft panniers on the bike.
  20. Progress is being made with a pair of aluminium plate mounts for soft panniers. The plates have multiple slots to accept straps from the panniers. Nylon "hooks" to fit in the Givi pannier "slots" have been made and mounted on the aluminium plate. Nylon "tongues" have been made to slot up into the recess that the Givi pannier lock tongue fits into. A 6mm rod and tube nuts, have been fashioned --- to go through one plate, through the number plate mount and out through the other aluminium plate to keep everything tight. Pics will follow next week.
  21. Extra pics The tail rack. USB lead and its cable gland. The Givi EA123 modified and cable fitted.
  22. I am in the process of putting together soft pannier support plates for my 900GT to increase the pannier capacity to Thirty litres each side. In the meantime Lomo 6litre crash bar bags have been fitted together with water bottle carriers. [/url] The sheepskin now fitted to the seat. Givi EA123 Tankbag fitted after great deliberation. I cut a hole in the lower side of the bag, just outside the mounting plate, and fitted a USB cable through a sealing gland. Phone charging now sorted (via Hela socket).
  23. The GT cases were exactly the right size for a trip I did recently using Hotels. The close coupled mounting system is excellent. That is probably the kind of touring the panniers are very well suited to. I knew that when I decided to buy the bike. I am now exploring options to make it a Camping tourer ,---- without going to massive, wide, panniers. First on the agenda is to design and make a backing plate, for soft panniers, that mounts onto the existing mounting system. Thanks for your input.
  24. Having just come from nice square top loading aluminium boxes, that were bigger, I am still coming to terms with how to get the use of as much of the 2 X 22litres as possible , to reduce what goes in the roll bag. Hence I might jump to bigger soft panniers. (I must add that the Givi pannier seals have been excellent in some really wet weather.).
  25. I don't agree with that at all ! Not all hard cases are created equal and the side opening Givi's on the GT are a pain !
