  1. Best to go to the source here. Meanwhile this is one example. The "bobbins" allow the floating disc rotor to ... float, i.e. move in and out. If they are binding they can also cause rubbing friction at the brake pads.
  2. Thanks to both OZVFR and Ride365 for the insights. I guess for now the snatchiness of throttle is not enough to offset the extra cost + the extra fuel consumption + the loss in ambient temperature (which I do use), all on a bike that will eventually (likely) be gone eventually (possibly after the new T9GT comes out with its acceptable dash, among other things). 🙂
  3. That is what I thought, hence the question about the fuel economy. The issue is not about the cost of the flash. I'd rather not pay anything at all to fix something that should have been right in the first place, especially since the Tracer is only with me for a finite time. That said, it has grown on me a lot. I demo rode an FZ-10 some years ago and I guess it must have been in A mode. What a jerky ride that was! Swore me off Yamahas that had any mention of snatchy throttles. Then I bought the Tracer ... not so bad and bearable compared to the FZ-10.
  4. Two questions: Any difference on the fuel economy after the Boosterplug installation? I see no application on their website for the 2020 (or 2019) Tracer 900GT and am assuming that you got the one for the MT-09 (2017 - 2020) (PRODUCT NUMBER: YAMAHA-B302)? This seems like a better value for me, where I'd like to remove even the reduced snatchiness from my 2019 Tracer 900GT in STD mode, let alone A mode. If I get a smidge more power then so be it, and if no impact on fuel economy then it's a winner for me.
  5. I don't have specific experience with this part but when I got my replacement silver RF side panel for my 2019 Tracer 900GT it was painted, but without stickers / decals as shown in this video.
  6. 🤯 First I've heard of this. I already though the service schedule every 4000 miles was ridiculous with some of the items the want to do / change but this takes the cake.
  7. I am a similar kind of weirdo. AAMOF, I tend to avoid pre-owned vehicles with "mods" done to it by other people. I want standard in every way. If I do make a few tasteful mods then they are to actually enhance performance, not for some imaginary gain.
  8. And no top box? Top boxes/cases have been known to cause instability at his speeds. Look at this video and see if you have a similar problem but at a higher speed.
  9. I do have a keen sense of smell and it must compensate for my less than ideal eyesight. 😁 That said, I have never liked smelly exhausts on cars, bikes, anything with a catalytic converter that should be stinking up the place. Yes, I can tolerate the smell in my garage, given that the fuel economy of the bike is acceptable. But why should I have to accept it? I mean the Tracer lives right next to its stablemate the much older RS which has no appreciable smell from the exhaust when ridden in and parked. That bike has 5x the miles on the clock and a much larger engine, and if left too long without being ridden may start with a bit of smoke as the oil accumulated in the left cylinder is burned off, but no smell. The S1000R I had before it had no similar smell either as did my bike before them all in this country, a Honda CBR500R. So, I'd like to think that maybe something is slightly off, and I don't yet know what it is. Now funnily enough, on the way home I filled it up with gas and after parking it the smell is not as bad as before, for some strange reason ... probably purely coincidental. Mind you, the smell seems to have gotten worse in recent months too. I will update the thread if/when I actually see a change.
  10. Picked the bike up from the dealer and paid them $187 for them to tell me the following (which are the technician’s actual notes). At least they said that the bike had no history of codes, and has no codes presently. So I’m none the wiser, but they do note that it smells. Can’t see spark plugs solving the problem but hey they’re cheap and I can do it, one of these days Resolution:test drove unit and there is a smell of un burnt gas cannot visually see any leaks and vents are dry and gas tank lid is seal no other means of gas to leak. called yamaha and they say to check the lid and 2 vents and if all are correct that they cannot say anything is actually wrong with the unit since there is no signs of a leak and no codes and bike is running as intended. could possibly be spark plugs when did unit get serviced last?
  11. Hehehe ... it is in the dealership as we speak ... been there since Saturday. Thanks for the thought though. Yes, I drive straight into the garage without so much as a pause on the driveway. 🙂 Automatic first mod on any bike I keep for longer than 5 minutes is a garage door opener, which is activated from the road as I approach my house. (As an aside, using that technique I can gauge the health of my GDO battery ... the weaker the battery the close I get before the door starts to open) Mine cools down in the garage. As for the smells ... I am familiar with the different smells coming from my hot engines, e.g. just washed smell, wiped off oil on the exhaust pipe smell after an oil change, clean engine pure exhaust smell when fuel mixture is right, and now this smell. The last one is unacceptable. Pretty much like riding behind Harleys, and for the same reason. 😁
  12. Will do. The smell is not coming from the gas cap area and it’s not like plain gasoline. It’s partially burnt fuel smell and not real exhaust smell, which should not smell like gasoline at all.
  13. I heard of that too but that is not at all the case here. Don’t know if the charcoal canister, if fitted, was damaged previously, but I always only fill to the metal “grate” That you stuck the nozzle through. We’ll see what the mechanics at the dealership say. All I know is that they’re planning to charge me $190 just for the diagnostics and inspection. They had better credit that towards the repair or else they will lose a customer. I know that there is labor involved in diagnosing but even BMW doesn’t charge that much just to diagnose. This is a Yamaha FFS.
  14. Sounds reasonable to me. I guess in such a scenario you’d want to replace the canister. Question would be why would it have gotten fouled in the first place, i.e. what would be the root cause … 🤔
  15. Bike is now at a dealership for the first time since I bought it. Let's see what they find. At the very least I will get a full diagnostics report and have a baseline for this bike. That is one of the things I don't like about buying pre-owned - you don't really have knowledge of everything that was done to the bike is not "visible".
  16. That makes a lot of sense to me. And yes with a fuel injected bike it is easier to load some sort of different map into the ECU I guess. I guess I’d have to take it to a dealer to get it reverted?
  17. Thing is I don’t thing there is a smell while it is running. It’s when it is shut down and in my garage it sort of oozes this gasoline stink. For a while. The previous owner only had it for 2900 miles or so before trading it and it was in mint condition so hardly something you’d think was tuned. Could have been, I suppose.
  18. Ever since I got this bike (pre-owned) at about 2900 miles I noticed a strong smell of (I believe, partially) burned petrol in my garage after I return and the garage door is closed. The smell lingers for a few hours before going away, and next day there is no smell. There is no fuel leaking on the ground. The bike runs very well, starts well, there is no gasoline smell when I am riding it (as far as I can tell), and the fuel economy is good, but the smell is like the bike is running rich all through the year - even in the hot months. My other bike does not have this problem at all, and I smell no fuel when that bike is parked in the garage, just a whiff of exhaust as you would expect. Anyone else notice the same with their bikes? Aby idea what might be the problem?
  19. That was also my thinking. It would make sense for them to ship bikes to southern dealerships in the winter months where riding is still popular to help offset the lack of action up north. But then again, NA market is not really as motorcycle-friendly as in other parts of the world, where bikes are actually used as transportation, and not as farkle trees and weekend leisure time toys.
  20. Winter is perfectly rideable here in Houston and the dealers don't have any Tracer 9GTs so that is not it. Not only that but there is a lot of disposable income in Houston so the market is there.
  21. I think that this is what they are talking about. I also experience this with my 2019 T900GT and 12k miles. Just the slightest pull on the clutch lever attenuates the rattle.
