  1. Is anyone in Australia NOT running 98 octane (Premium unleaded) in their bike ?
  2. Somewhere online I saw a lycra stretch cover that went from the handguards to the back of the bike. It would be just the thing to stop bird poop and tree sap, but did not cover the sides of the bike. Sorry, I don't remember the brand or context.
  3. The Australian model is not limited. Top speed has been quoted at an estimated 280km/h in AMCN Vol 64 No 18, (I'm not likely to go that high).
  4. Does anyone know if any of the DRLs have PWM like some bicycle lights ? (Pulse Width Modulation) Not that I think it's a good thing.
  5. Cool. Keep in touch, we may be able to get a SEQ group ride going to meet you and whoever else from NSW is up. Tip - stay out of Byron shire, was there last week and the roads, even in town, are very very very potholed, very dangerous. I have pics.
  6. OK, you asked for it. The Bell RS-1 Airtrix Meltdown. Ugliest helmet I ever wore. Good for visibility though, it gets noticed. Looks like squid wear so makes me feel younger. Really wanted that in the solid silver, but it wasn't imported here and needs the official standards sticker to be legal.. Revzilla review:
  7. Just ordered a Motoport Air Mesh II kevlar jacket and pants for my precious pillion. I'm curious how she'll compare this legendary gear to her leathers.
  8. Thanks for that @bobdog ! Makes sense to use compression socks on long rides, to combat DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), as on flights. I've ordered some Smartwool and some Coolmax socks to see how well they'll wick away sweat from hot feet. Cheers, Rob
  9. Interesting socks ! Does anyone have sock tips ? Long or short, thick or thin, wool, cotton or synthetic ?
  10. How comfortable are they to walk? Love the look! They're pretty comfortable. I'm slightly pronated and they feel fine. There is plenty of room around the ankle for me, I use the 4th notch of 14 on the ratchet. I wouldn't hike in them, but they've been fine around town as I've been wearing them in. Way more comfortable than my old Rossi's (I've forgotten they're on, unlike the Rossi's) and not as comfortable as old hiking boots. My leathers are a bit short for these boots when on the bike, but my kevlar jeans and textile pants are fine. They feel like engineer's boots and are not angled like race boots. After inserting some "odor-eater" insoles, they're quite snug, and my feet get quite warm. I'm going to try different types of socks to see which are cooler.
  11. Welcome One recall: http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1069428 which should have been done by the dealer, the tell tale that it's been done is a blue dot on the end of the shaft. Seat and screen are the two areas that most here change first. You'll find plenty of info here about other farkles.
  12. After melting a chunk of the right heel off my Australian Rossi boots on an exhaust during a 600km day, I now normally ride in a pair of RJays Highway boots . For variety and rides around town, I have just received a pair of brown Italian Falco Volts. They're short and suitable to wear under jeans, and are reasonably comfortable to walk in. I grabbed these for a great price on ebay from a Spanish company in Madrid. 10 days from Spain to Australia (Madrid-Liege-Dubai-Singapore-Brisbane, fun to watch the tracking) The buckle has a ratchet for fine adjustment, and the flap is velcro. No laces to catch on levers ! Good malleolus protection, we'll see how well they hold up after some more wear. .
  13. Not quite sure of the purpose of these ? To stop cold pedals ? GEARSHIFT SOCK PEG COVER http://www.ebay.com/itm/121674934217
  14. A t-shirt ! But over that: White/black Icon Overlord leather jacket - well vented and actually cooler than my Dririder Air Ride summer mesh jacket. I wear an Olympia Blaze hi-viz vest around town, as there are lots of geriatrics and tourists here. Rhok Gen 4 (EN 13595 certified) kevlar jeans with hip and knee armor. The knees unzip to easily remove armor. Carbon/Kevlar gauntlet gloves with palm slider. No idea of the brand, but am looking for replacements with the same features. Rjay's Highway boots. . Edit: hotlinked pics have broken, standby while I put them elsewhere now on photobucket.
  15. New Bell RS-1. It has great peripheral and adequate vertical vision, but my prescription sunglasses sit a bit high. It's quiet and is lighter and fits better than the Bell star carbon. Previous was a KBC, it was light and comfortable but it's vent covers de-laminated after getting wet. Before that, a couple of AGVs, and before that, a Shoei RF-200.
  16. Just noticed that that MRA "double bubble" screen is now in stock. Looks too low for touring with.
  17. This site has double bubble MRA screens for MT-09 Tracer listed with pictures, but "currently not available". Maybe the MT-09 Tracer/FJ-09 dual name causes confusion.
  18. Just a quick warning about insurance. I posted some Aussie insurance quotes over in the "Insurance" thread, and discovered some shady tactics from one company. One company will sign people up and start charging them, confusing "quote" and "contract". Do not give out your credit or payment details when getting a quote. They can be very pushy and unprofessional. You know who i mean. O_o
  19. There are windscreen bolts for Yamahas on ebay - 10 for $4 , I'm replacing the faded ones on my R6. Not sure if they would suit the FJ-09, I suspect so.
  20. Fully comprehensive insurance: Shannons just quoted me ~$440 plus stamp duty = $530. New model, not in their database, they had to compare it with a "similar" bike.
  21. My local dealer said that Yamaha "don't do brochures". Quoted $16k ride away, including panniers.
