Time to catch you all up.

Where am I now?  I am in St. George Utah and boy is it hot here. 105 when I stopped at 3:30 today. It wasnt to bad in full gear because of my cooling vest and heat away shirt. At times when I was riding I would get alittle cold. I know its hard to believe  but the vest I have is 10 years old and filled with some gel stuff. You soak it in water over night and before you shower in the morning hang it up to dry a bit and your good to go.

Okay lets back track.

As I turned off SR14 on to 35 at Hood River I had to get a photo of Mt. Hood.af0i6mV.jpgmTSVcC8.jpg
After leaving Mt. Hood I headed south toward Prineville Oregon where I had the best breakfast ever at this place.t0lnedS.jpgSo my phone is about to die, more latter.

From Prineville I took OR380 which turns into Paulina-Suplee Rd, this road is a must take. Open twisty ranch road with hardly anyone around. If you want to open it up and haul ass you can do it here or any of the northern Nevada road. Just remember you are out in the middle of know where and crashing out here probably would result in lifeflight or some rancher will just feed you to his pigs. 0cFHc3M.jpgI hope I have enough gas.

This is the only store/bar and gas station in Paulina. Why cool. Wish I would of gotten a picture of the inside. It was like walking back in time. The dog in the far right corner was waiting for his owner to finish drinking. Felt bad for him so I showed him some love.
After that the road turns into Izee Ranch rd - OR67 to Burns hwy.
Right at the intersection of OR67 and Burns hwy the road  crew was taring the whole road. You dont know how bad I wanted to turn back but I pushed forward and followed the pilot car. I stop a little ways ahead to make sure my bike wasnt a tar baby. I got lucky.. nothing.
Got gas in Burns which has non ethanol gas and plotted my next road to take.

So before I forget here is what I was wearing under my leather jacket

Base layer

7Vvfm29.jpgThis over the heat out shirt and under the leather jacket. Works get. If your in stop and go traffic you will still feel the heat but it wont be near as bad. 105 degrees I was fine but sitting at a long stop light I could start to feel it a little but more on my legs and head.LtTpcKF.jpgNot sure if the company is still in business but if you find one try it out for yourself. I have had mine for ten years and it still works great.

From Burns I took OR78. Was going to take OR205 but at the time I didnt want to be stuck out in the middle of no where when it was getting dark. From OR78 to the long long hot hot US95. I was thinking to myself that it would be great to have the sportbike for this stretch.

Hot hot hot.
I didnt even have the cool vest charged yet. So I can asure you it does make a difference.

When I got to the town of McDermitt I saw a small gas station across from the Casino. Just my luck the gas station was closed and looked like it hadnt operated in years. I began to panick because there was no way I would make it to Winnemucca. Crap. As I crossed the street I could see a Texaco around the corner. Yes I was in luck. Got gas chatted with a Hells Angles rider from Bend Oregon and head to Winnemucca.

[div style=text-align:left]588 miles from my house to my first night at Winnemucca. I said I was going to camp the whole way..... well..... NO. its to hot for camping. I was sadden by this but being in a air condition room sounds so much better then sweating 24/7. My first night was in a motel called Cozy motel at the end or  begining of the strip. Guess it depends which way you are coming from. $44.50 for the night you get what you pay for. All the other hotels/motels were booked for the car show or jacking up there prices to 100+.
I ate mexican at Torch tavern and it was the best taco salad I have had.
Went to bed early and woke up at 4:30 to pack up and on the road at 5:30.

From Winnemucca I head out I 80 then NV278 torwards Eureka.
Somewhere along the way I came accross this strange ranch which had woman working there. Not sure what those woman farmed why out in the middle of nowhere but they must make alot of money because they had a real nice sign out in front. Was going to stop an take a picture but I have alot of respect for my wife not to. Of course I told her what I saw and she says why didnt you stop to take a pic. Hahaha.

I arrived at the friendylist smallest town Eureka.
Yes they are friendly but the food service took forever.

From there headed out US50.
I keep seeing all these dead strange animals in the road and I mean alot of them. It was kind of spooky. Then all of a sudden a strange thing crossed the road really quick. Look like a rabbit but ran like a fox. Odd very odd. Hummm what could it be?vvqQ4hx.jpg7
From Ely on the Great Basin hwy/US93 to NV319 to UT56 to UT18 to St. George. Just before entering the town the temp jumps up to 105. Ouch its hot here. Checked in early now I am sitting here watching the light show outside. Thunder and rain. InnU5BG.jpg

I wonder if it is ever cool in St. George? Was 95F when I rolled in at 9:30 pm last September and 110F when I was there this June with the family.
If you haven't already left this place has an excellent breakfast - the Bear Paw Cafe

Loving the pics, hope your trip keeps going smoothly.

Cheers

So before I forget here is what I was wearing under my leather jacket 1nHGUBk.jpg

That shirt can provide some cooling on its own if you dip it in water. It will cool you while the water evaporates, but the cooling lasts only an hour or until the water is gone. They cost $10 at Cycle gear. Your vest works longer, but I have only the shirt.

It always seems like I am playing catch up on my report. Not much luck with phone/internet service in the middle on nowhere.
Headed to Zion National Park.
All I can say is wow. The ride in on hwy 9 I stopped at Quail Creek Lake. Nice place to camp and go swimming. From Quail lake I headed in towards the park.zyDyTIp.jpg
I was blown away how nice Rockville and Springdale are. These would be excellent places to stay at with someone. Looks expensive and I diffently will be bringing my wife here.
Park the bike at the Zion shuttle parking lot and took the bus in for some hiking. Fyi you can drive in all the way but only certain times of the year my time was not one of them.
Hiked up Emerald pools to the top.fcko84W.jpgo9Ocubt.jpgIdZkOAp.jpg

[div style=text-align:justify]This was the only hike I did but well worth it. If you dont like crowds then you might want to pass on this one.
After the shuttle dropped me off I headed up hwy 9 to the longest tunnel I had ever been in. Cant remember how long it was but it had to be aleast a mile long and was built in 1930. Inside the tunnel were cut outs to see parts of the rock walls. The bad part is you can not stop but what I did was go real slow inside to let traffic get way ahead of me the would speed up to the lookouts so I could look longer and when traffic caught up behind with me I would go slow again till the next lookout. Yeah I know you probably shouldnt do that but it was well worth it.
From Zion I decided to head to Bryce canyon but the weather didnt hold up for me and dark dark clouds drove me down hwy 89 to 98 to 160 to 163. It was pretty uneventful til hwy163 heading towards Mexican Hat.  I hit it about hour before sunset and got some really good shots. aB8hAFO.jpgpmCdDgy.jpg8PyqsH4.jpg
Once I arrived I stayed at San Juan. Great clean rooms with a view and the restrauant there had really good food. I had the Navajo tacos which was made with indian frybread.VJeQv6I.jpgdUv56HP.jpgZQZ4YUn.jpgLxGGj6N.jpg

Today I headed out hoping to get to Bryce canyon by the end of the day.
Took hwy 163 to 261.

jwZ0raa.jpgA few miles in on 261 the road turns to dirt and heads up a steep switch back climb. If I wasnt alone and had a skid plate I would of taken this over to hwy95. If you have both then this is a must take road that will reward you with endless views.
I back tracked to 95  then to 24. Theses are some of the picsKkUSwbC.jpg7lCMKRC.jpgNVsT5PQ.jpg
