You may recall I commented on the "What did you do to your FJ today" thread.  That I thought the following was a great idea.  I did, and I do.  Having shamelessly copied it, thanks to Clint and Austinmation - here are my results - you will notice i have routed the Clutch Cable slightly differently: ...
Yamaha Part No: 5VY263350100 £40.52 +VAT

The other thing I did was to change the actuator arm for another which is 5 mm (10%) longer, which means more leverage on the clutch and 10% less pull force to do it

Yamaha Part No: 5S7163400000 £16.85 +VAT

Thanks for reading 8-)
What year R1?  Can't find these numbers.  TIA
At ronayers.com you can search by part number and it will tell you what that number 'fits'. P/N 5VY-26335-01-00 is listed as 2005 and 2006 R1 and/or R1 LE.
Yamaha part numbers are easy to identify as they are always formatted as written with the dashes; 1 digit, two letters - five numbers - two numbers - two numbers. Be sure and use the dashes in the correct places to get the best hits.
Keep Asheville weird!

Nothing too exciting to report today, but nevertheless, in the true spirit of blogging and recording the progress of my pride and joy, I shall nevertheless bore you all to tears with my minor modifications and tweaks...yes.  Mindblowing stuff! (not).

Prevention is better than cure....so, on the back of the thread Cracked Side Panel  by @voodoo   (many thanks voodoo for sharing your knowledge) I decided that I should modify my side panels, in line to the way Yamaha have now updated their panels.

There was no cracking at all on Tracey, but then I ride with the seat in the high position anyway, but JIC I thought it would be a good idea to modify...

Your Givi side case in that picture is on the wrong side.
Oooh, I've just noticed this is your first post...  Welcome to the forum, why not introduce yourself in the intros section.

Do you have any other photos of the bike with just the side cases mounted?
No...I didn't...but the sun's shining so I've just wheeled it out of the shed and taken a few with Top box removed...obviously the mounting plate is there, but if you squint, close one eye, pat your head whilst rubbing your tummy, you can imagine the bike panniers only.

And just to make my point about the beautiful configuration that is "correct way round mounting"...

Agreed. looks soo much better that way round!

Apparently they only hinge at the front because if you forgot to close the catch, the force of the wind would keep the pannier shut, not get caught underneath it and blow it open. Probably breaking it.

Just gotta remember to keep it shut.. which is easy enough isnt it :)

I don't know if other versions are end hinged, those have the hinge on the long outer side.

Aero dynamically, I would expect them to be better the ugly way round.. But I'll willingly pay for more fuel when image is everything,

Why the Givis on the Shad mounts; got them cheap? How did you adapt them? Or is the Shad mount just for the top box, and you have the Givi mounts? Light bulb went on when typing this...

BTW, I like the Givi sc backwards, they follow the seat line well that way.

I really like my Shad stuff...very rigid mounts and very light.

Shad mount is for the top box only, the Givi panniers are on the givi mount, but had to make a narrower cross bar (see earlier posting on this thread)

The Shad stuff is good.. The OEM for BMW is Shad too.

The only reason I went for the Givi panniers is to reduce width for commuting and filtering... and they're top loading too which I prefer. No doubt your panniers look nice and better quality than the Givi - but they serve my purpose and don't look bad

Nice post & Pictures. Is it possible to just use the R1 cable and use the extra length to take advantage of the better routing of the cable above the radiator?
Yes I would say so...and I think it would still make a big difference too.  Most of the stiffness is to do with the original shite cable kwalitee (actually, that should be a capital K!) and stupid routing - someone was having a bad day at Yamaha when that got added to the design!
